I actually thought that it was an extremely odd and rather lame opening. Tough coming after China but the nurses with kids bouncing around on the beds? I love Rowan but had no idea what he was doing there. Forging the Olympic rings?! That happened in the UK, eh? Music was a disaster, IMO.
Still, I am comparing rolling up sod to China. Plus, the US coverage didn't help in the least. Commentators wouldn't shut up! Commercials left and right broke the mood. Especially when you have John Cleese in them. In short, many parts simply left me scratching my head asking WTF?
Too bad, as Danny Boyle has made some of my favorite movies. Culture sure played into it here but he really was all over the place. I felt sorry for the people in the stadium as you really needed to be watching it on TV to get most of the angles and have a slight view of all that was going on.
One man's opinion but it'll certainly set Brazil up next time 'round.
