From my experience, those that mistreat animals are also the typical good "Church goers" in the public eye. You even see the same thing here. The most agressive comments are from someone who finishes with a: "God bless."
Aww well he's landed in a good place to recover then! Our dog is a shelter dog too - for months after we adopted him, if Craig raised his voice at him for being naughty, he'd simply cower and piss himself. He pissed himself one time when he saw Craig walk towards him with a belt - he was about to put the belt on, so non-threatening entirely. Poor boy.
