I agree 100%. There is no beating Judas Priest when it comes to metal aesthetics, the entire band but especially Rob of course, nobody is better than "that guy". He is just the heartbeat of all "metal".

Dude, Halford in those long leather coats equals two different words: METAL!! and EPIC!! Oh wait the first one isn't big enough; METAL!!!!

Yeah, there really is nothing to compare, Maiden just seems bland appearance-wise. It's too bad, the only thing going is energy but they need more than that for the show man!!! Even that starting pic below looks unimpressive.

[J.D. DIAMOND] Friday, August 27, 2010 3:03:49 PM
Thats what I'm sayin too _strat_,Dickinson just spanks of poor aesthetics on stage with that beinie rap-like hat he usually wears, and baggy pants ect...They should be wearing solid black normal pants and leather ect....Janic Gears at least looks like he is in a heavy metal band, but Steve wearing shorts and Bruce's image makes up for a spanking lame image they got going on these days, its just boring.

At least Judas Priest looks "heavy metal" ,some may like Rob's older image better like Hellrider likes the Painkiller era ect...but at least he still looks fucking "metal",his long coats with black, studs, leather, black gloves, boots with studs,ect..ect..ect.. still looks total "metal" while Bruce looks like the guy that mows your fuckin lawn HAHAHA!  Bruce just looks "boring".

The sad thing is, that even with a cowboy hat, that guy looks more metal than Dickinson.

[J.D. DIAMOND] Friday, August 27, 2010 11:48:04 AM
Well come on Brian now, look at that image?????  Yes the image of old Iron Maiden you posted is a true solid metal image, but even you have to be cringing at Bruce and Roy Z in that lame photo? I know everybody else is lol! A fucking cowboy hat?

What the fuck happened?   Take a look at this shit, its Bruce solo and is that Roy Z with a country cowboy hat on? That spanks of poor aesthetics,Bruce dresses the same way for Iron Maiden, boring "street cloths" only he wears a stupid fucking Beastie Boy rap hat. Maiden never were really decked out in spikes and they used to wear embarrassing spandex, but at least they could sport leathers like in that photo that shithead posted.  Bruce nowadays spanks of lame aesthetics and its boring.

Often I sit back and admire how a troll can change their personalities to actually praise themselves. They have even been known to create full threads to meet such ends.

I laugh to myself and wonder: don't they have anything better to do with their shallow, miserable lives?
[J.D. DIAMOND] Thursday, August 26, 2010 1:18:38 PM
Maximum Overdrive: This is the same guy who called Rob Halford a "liar" for saying that heavy metal is an ideology.  That about sums up all ya need to know about this loser.

Often I sit back and look at the childish individuals who seem to run rampant in here. It seems utterly bizarre the level of respect and adoration afforded to a group of people whose one skill is backstabbing. How shallow, facile and pathetic. Fortunately, I then remember Brian Evans. Brian Evans: the best argument for not firebombing judaspriest.com.

I can't get onto my youtube account, but how about we let this song be the end of the bickering in this thead. If it doesn't, I give up.

That's easy HRMG because he's a fanboy. No real taste,  just programed to hear and treat everything with no appreciation or difference  and  "OBEY".

I wonder? When is Bwian's commanded communion with Bruce going to happen????
SURELY, Bruce search's the Judas Priest pages for proof of his greatest fan?! .............No??? What self respecting Iron Madien Band member would not be here looking for that one true diamond in the dust to deem it worthy of that last crap album they released??? Surely Bwian is their man!

Well, let me put it like this then: when Rob sings, it gives me goose bumps and I find myself in complete awe of his vocal ability. He sings with such great passion that it just draws you completely into the song. His lyrics are also incredible - he paints a picture in your mind and you find yourself feeling the same way he must have when he wrote the song. That is why he will always be the ultimate vocalist to me. Everyone has their own opinions and I know that some people believe Bruce or Dio are better. But like I said, Rob does something for me that I can't really explain and no other singer comes close to that for me. When Rob sang Victim of Changes in Cleveland, it was so awesome that it brought tears to my eyes and the entire crowd was quiet, waiting for that incredible high note, and then there was a roar of appreciation when he hit it. So to answer your question, no it's not totally about range. For me, it's about how I feel when I listen to Rob sing.
[Brian_Evans] Sunday, August 22, 2010 8:38:00 PM
I think Rob may have a hard  time singing some of Maiden's material just like Bruce would struggle with some of Priest's material.  But hey, if you think Rob is better then I respesct your opinion. Does having a better range make him a better vocalist?  Bruce has a pretty good range also.

Who is better, Bruce or Rob? Is this seriously a question???? Let's see, the WORLD calls Rob THE METAL GOD because he IS the BEST metal singer there is by far and he represents everything METAL! Not only does he sing better than Bruce, he has a better range than Bruce. Rob's voice has a tone to it that can not be beat by anyone. He can sing ANYTHING, which Bruce can not. Not to mention, Bruce himself acknowledged that Rob was better than him..... And NO Brian, it wasn't because he was being nice or had to. Given Bruce's ENORMOUS EGO, there is NO WAY he would give Rob a compliment unless he truly felt that way.

ROB IS THE METAL GOD!!!

Rob Halford is FAR better Becks I agree. Although Bruce is good, on the new album that nobody seems to like he does sound like he is trying too hard and straining too hard to hit those notes.Rob Halford by a LONG shot.

[Becks] Saturday, August 21, 2010 10:31:08 PM
Halford. I find his voice so much more dramatic, and his high notes are a lot cleaner than Bruces. Whenever I hear Bruce trying to go really high it sounds like he's really pushing it, whereas it sounds so much more natural with Rob.
And on another note, Chris Jericho is a dick LOL! Not because he chose Bruce, but his reasons had nothing to do with Bruces voice at all. Which is what the question was, it was about vocal ability.

Here is giving credit where credit is due(in my opinion of course and I don't expect many to agree with me here)Bruce Dickinson's last 3 solo albums are 100% better than anything Maiden has done since Powerslave.

Accident Of Birth,The Chemical Wedding and Tyranny Of Souls all 3 have 80% of great material, each album may only have 2,3 songs on it that suck but overall they are very interesting and its because of "no Steve Harris".

well..while these little kids keep talking nonsense (no offense but it's a bit irritating having that shit all over this site) I'll say that the cover was dissapointing and the content (of this new album) just reinforced my first impression about it...I still think Iron maiden is one of the best bands ever! there could be no mention to metal history without taking maiden into account, but their lastest albums haven't been that good...It still makes me want to cry just remembering that I saw them live, just the fact of knowing that they came twice in a year to this little piece of land forgotten by the world makes me feel incredibly good, and because the tour was based on those 80's songs I can say I enjoyed every single second of it. I lost my voice for 3 days and I'm proud of it...JD, I love the evil that men do but of course I accept your decision of hating it...I also think that blaze's albums are crap...but listening to dickinson performing man on the edge makes me want to shot him down! because that song sounds better when it's bailey's version (I'm not saying it's good...but I really like that damn song)...and mr evans, I have nothing against you,I won't say you're a fanboy or that you're in a terrible blinding obsesion with Iron maiden because I don't really care... but if you mess with spapad don't expect most of us to help you out because nothing could be done to save your soul from eternal damnation... that's not gonna be a good reference to anybody...and the fact that you could not answer that insignificant question doesn't help either...keeping this stupid argument with JD will only demonstrate how stubborn you may be, and finally, keeping it this way, paying attention to every single comment they post, and replying to every single one going around the bushes instead of addressing directly the questions or opinions won't make you many friends around nor make you popular...so pay attention because it's not always convenient to fight the world...mainly if you know you can't win...so please open your mind a little and accept the others' points of view...help us improve this area we all love instead of being one of those who make it worse every day

I can take anything you dish out, even though its all a bunch of rubbish, take your best shot man. Like I said before I'll still be here when the smoke clears. I enjoy laughing at you lame and obsessive control freak post. lmao No I didn't say anyone could not bash Maiden when I created this thread but you take it too far like you have a grudge against the band or something. I'm sure they could care less what you think just like I do so knock yourself out and keep the lame comments comming. UP THE IRONS idiot.
[J.D. DIAMOND] Friday, August 20, 2010 1:49:16 PM
You see Jeanie,he can't answer your request about an Iron Maiden song thats a bit of a "kilter" because he is a "fanboy".

Now to Brian, get used to it and "deal with it",I'm not going anywhere,I'm here to stay and if you don't like it,fucking "leave".

You are 100% "obsessed" with worshiping everything Maiden does and thats your right to do so,and its my fucking right to bash them if I please, and thier new album sucks so bad its worth bashing in my opinion. So fucking deal with it! Did I bash the A Matter Of Life And Death album? No.

So again your a fucking bold faced "liar" saying I'm here to bash Iron Maiden 100% ,if that were true I would be bashing everything they do,and I wouldn't give credit to thier first 5 studio albums,Seventh Son,and AMOLAD album so again everybody here sees that your a fucking bold faced "liar". Everytime you log onto this site I'll be here so get used to it,if you don't like it then hit your ignore button or fucking leave the forum. Go to Maiden's forum and stay there,Jeanie says the entire site is filled with "fanboys" just like you so you'll fit right in lol!  I hope your getting angry over this as I'm laughing my fucking ass of while I type it! lol! Fucking baby!

Now think about this: You created this thread and called it a "serious Iron Maiden discussion" right? Right. But you never said anything about all of us having to "like" everything Iron Maiden does"  did you? I am simply "discussing" how much the new album sucks balls and is nowhere near the quality of AMOLAD and you can't handle it,now that is a serious control freak.Little Baby!

Well i'm glad that you love Maiden but if you didn't thats ok with me. See i'm not an obsessive control freak thats out of control foaming at the mouth every time someone mentions they like current Maiden as much as old maiden. lmao. Thats just way out there in left field if you ask me. I think they did the best they could during the Blaze era just like Priest did when Rob Halford left. But if you don't like the Blaze era thats fine with me. I didn't create this thread to bash maiden but to celebrate and discuss this great heavy metal band. Thats not being a "fanboy" but just a fan of  one of the greatest metal bands of all time. I wish there was a way to ban someone from the threads you create cause I would use that feature.

Go a little further and have him name one song by Bruce that is not as good as others by Bruce,he can't do it because he is a "fanboy". I'm not saying that he can't be a "fanboy" thats fine but he starts whining when people call him one. LOL!

The "A Matter Of Life And Death" album may not be the best Maiden album, not even close  and it might not even be a "heavy metal" album as it could be progressive rock but it sure as hell smokes the shit out of "The Final Frontier" in my opinion except the 2 songs "Different World" and "Benjamin Bregg"(I hate those songs) but the rest of it smokes the hell out of the new LP. Those who like it so be it,good for you as I'm not saying you can't,but at least I have a fuckin opinion and not a pathetic obsession.

I love the debut "Iron Maiden" album(1980) and I love "Killers"(1981) those are the 2 best Maiden albums for me,I also love The Number Of The Beast,Piece Of Mind,Powerslave. I hate the "Somewhere In Time" album except for Stranger In A Strange Land(its ok).

Seventh Son is "ok" I can listen to every song except "The Evil That Men Do"(I hate that song!). NPFTD and FOTD both are rubbish and only have 2 maybe 3 songs that are alright but the rest is not my thing,I hate both Blaze albums and Half of Brave New World is "ok" but I hate the other half. I like: Wicker Man,Ghost Of The Navigator,Nomad,Out Of The Silent Planet and Thin Line Between Love And Hate, and I hate the other 5 songs! I hate the entire Dance Of Death album as I know you like it but I could never stomach it no matter how many times I've tried to listen to it.

Now thats an opinion of this band, not a "bashing frenzy" as dickhead says I do.lol!

Nothing....you're just grabbing at straws here. Go back and check my post, I don't care because you will find nothing. I have nothing to hide. What are you talking about here????

HA HA HA! Don't buy it Jeanie what Evans just said is a bold faced "LIE". He is a "liar" and a fake. Ask him about an opinion between albums,he only has one: "They are all equally 100% top notch". Ask him about an opinion between songs, any of thyem and he only has one: 'They are all equally" great".

Again, this dickhead has the right to his opinion but we can't have any kind of "serious" Iron Maiden discussion because he can't discuss anything because he says its all equally the same. Jeanie's favorite albums are Iron Maiden and Killers,Brian will say that The X Factor and Virtual Eleven are equally as good.Pick a song, any of them and he will say that every Iron Maiden song is equal to the next one no matter what song,no matter what album.

That is not a "discussion" that is an "obsession". Again, nobody cares if he thinks this way or not but he gets his feelings hurt and starts crying when the entire forum calls him a "fanboy". Nobody can discuss Iron Maiden with him because of his fanboyism. We all knew that he would lable "The Final Frontier" equal to any Iron Maiden album before he heard it and before it came out. He slandered me first(big mistake) and this is the consequence he is suffering.

Iron Maiden as a band are extremely talented, they play live very good and top notch,I never said they didn't. I said "they suck" because of thier modern day "song writting". It utterly amazes me that when someone says a band "sucks" they would automatically think that you are refering to the bands ability to preform live and not thier song writting??

There is nothing to discuss with him as he is the real "joker" ,ask "anybody" here and they will tell you the same. This thread he created applies to anybody but Brian Evans. Now Brian, tell the forum if I'm telling the truth or not?Remember, anybody can back track and post your exact words. How about telling Jeanie the Iron Maiden song you dislike the most? (LOMFL!)

He calls me a "Saxon fanboy" but the entire forum laughs at him because I can name many songs and a few albums by Saxon that are 100% "shit"!! Brian can't say the same about Iron Maiden, can you Brain? LOL!

I couldn't agree more. Its crazy in my opinion. I don't know what the problem is with that joker and Iron Maiden but all I know is he needs to cool it. Maybe he went back stage to meet the band and they kicked him out, maybe Bruce turned him down for an autograph. lmao. All I know is every time someone even slightly mentions Maiden he has a serious meltdown.  I like new Iron Maiden and if he has a problem with it then too bad. UP THE IRONS and down with the control freaks.

Actually - saying 'Killers' was a good song reminds me..the production on that album (vinyl) i thought was sadly lacking compared to the first effort, they came across far better live...i roadied most of the Killers tour in UK..unlike some i actually liked Paul Di'anno...was offered the 'Beast On The Road' tour but - being a bit of a fan of Samson (Bruce's older band) i elected to stay in the crowd...believe me - was the right option.

[J.D. DIAMOND] Thursday, August 19, 2010 1:42:16 AM
First off I'll add icecreamman to the 95% lol!   Now Jeanine,I or nobody else is saying: "Nobody should like the new Iron Maiden album".  Everybody has thier own opinions but Mr.Evans is claiming that every Iron Maiden song from side one of Iron Maiden's debut (1980)Prowler to 2010's last song "Where The Wild Wind Blows" are equal to each other, they are all the same and that Iron Maiden have never written a bad song. Blaze Baily's albums too, pick any track and its equal to your favorite Iron Maiden song. Thats his opinion and and I'm not saying that he can't have that opinion but he gets "BUTT HURT AND BENT" when the entire forum calls him a "fanboy".

Iron Maiden can put out a cover of Britny Spears and he will claim its as good as the song "Killers" or anything else Maiden have done and once again its his right to think so,but he is a "fanboy" and when somebody thinks this way thier opinion is irrelevant, its not "valid" because you can't "discuss" anything serious with him about Iron Maiden when he or anybody like him says "its all the same and its all good"...how can you "discuss" a serious Iron Maiden conversation with somebody like that? You can't.  He created the "serious Iron Maiden discussion" thread but there is nothing to discuss unless you think exactly like he does..."a fanboy".

How old are people in this thread? Can't there be an adult chat about this? Wow. One might not like Iron Maiden, but to say they suck is a little strange to me. They clearly can play quite well. I still have not formed a decent opinion about the new album. I must add that nothing jumps out at me IMHO. Please know that my favorite albums by Iron Maiden are Iron Maiden and Killers. I have seen Maiden in 1983 and I have seen them in 2009. They are just simply an amazing live band. Even though my favorite two albums are the first two, I think Bruce Dickinson is perfect as a frontman for them now. I tend to prefer Steve Harris written songs over anyone else in the band. When I hear a song I love by them it is usually written by him. I don't absolutley love the past few albums but I do really like A Matter of Life and Death. I think that was a great album. I also like the song Paschendale off of Dance of Death. It is fantastic. Everyone has their opinions, it doesn't mean we have to agree with them. That is kind of control freak mentality.

Yes paorcamp the album is 100% "SHIT".  Brian Evans is an asshole and a "loser" in life as everybody obviously already knows, but thats NOT why I bash  "Iron Laimen". I bash Iron Laimen because they are mother fuckin "Lame". If they would of put out a decent album like Piece Of Mind or Powerslave I would of just shut my mouth and gave credit where credit is due,but "The Final Frontier"? Oh fuck no way!

95% of the Saxon forum thinks the album is 100% shit as well as this site, and as well as the Halford site too. There is only about 5% of fanboys that like it and would suck Dickinson's balls if he asked them too, actually they would do it without him asking. Don't just take my word,go and have a full listen yourself, this album is horrible.

The latest Saxon LP "Into The Labyrinth"(13 songs) may not be thier best as the single "Live To Rock" is 100% "crap" and fucking stupid and embarrassing as well as one more track  in "Hellcat"(fucking totally weak!) but at least the rest of the 11 songs are quality decent Saxon,I can't come close to saying that about the final frontier.

These opinions about Iron Laimen would be here rather Evans is here or not, thats what that dumb fucker doesn't realize, but nobody expected him to figure this out as everybody knows that he is not that smart. What a loser.

well, I'll have to listen to it to have a valid opinion about the album but the fact that the last ones haven't been worth listening to makes it very hard to take the time with this one...so far I can say that I really hate what they did to eddie...even when he changes always and we see something different in every album cover, he keeps like the same distinctive characteristics that makes you recognize him whenever you see it...but this one is bad as hell!! and he doesn't even look like "an eddie"...I think the artwork is crap, and it does not even encourage me to listen to its content ...mainly after reading JD's comments...and maybe many people feel the same way

so I'll keep listening to the real albums...the old ones...

I also think they are coming to be what metallica or shitallica currently achieved...shit!  and yes...another influential and important band in our metal world leaves our side to join the happy world ruled by money....next think we'll see is that they support some kind of "asian dream" or that they're having "a beautiful day"...that's treason to their roots...and very disappointing...

The Final Frontier=overall pain in the ass to listen to. Bruce's voice hasn't aged well, to be honest. His high notes sounded weak and annoying and he says too much in one line. How he takes a breath in between lines is beyond me. I would not recommend this album if you want to have a good time. This is music to listen to if you want to fall into a coma. If this is Iron Maiden trying to be progressive, then they aren't doing a good job.
The Talisman, Where the Wild Wind Blows, The Man Who Would be King, Mother of Mercy, and Starblind, especially =

The Final Frontier - the return of Iron Maiden

Tue, Aug 17 2010 16:30 CET

It has been four long years since the last Iron Maiden album, almost to the date. And as the day of release of the 15 studio record, The Final Frontier approached, the buzz in the air for diehard fans began resembling that of a Cup Final match. At last, August 16 was upon us, and the long awaited D Day (in Sofia, Bulgaria, anyway) arrived. A swift cup of bitter coffee in the morning and off to the music store before work, but as luck would have it – it was closed. I extended my heartfelt wishes to the family of the store's owner and vowed to be back at 6pm. Several hours later, I ran through the front door, and with a sweaty grin asked the bloke behind the counter:

"Do you have it?"

"Have what?" And almost as soon as he realised the sheer daftness of his question, he pulled a grin and said "Oh, right mate, yes, of course we got it."

Iron Maiden are a band who are unflinchingly British heavy-metal but who, unlike many others around, are not afraid to evolve their music, but do so in a way that preserves their heritage and identity. The Final Frontier (or rather, the New Frontier) has nothing to do with Killers, or Piece of Mind, or Somewhere in Time. It has no relation to Brave New World or The X Factor either, and yet, the unmistakable Maiden signature is evident from top to bottom. It takes only two notes for you to know, that this is, indeed, Maiden. They have evolved over the years but fans should – and we do – take each album as it is. And herein, lies the problem. Although I am supposed to write a critical review for the album, being a die-hard Maiden fan since 1989, it is all rather difficult, because I tend to be more critical and do take it more emotionally than someone neutral who would simply listen to it and just reflect on it.

The Final Frontier begins with Satellite 15, a four-minute introduction to the title song The Final Frontier. This opening is as dark as Maiden gets. To say that this song is bizarre would be a gross understatement. The bass, drums, guitars and the vocals sound like you are in a spaceship drifting somewhere in space. Uncontrollably. Chaotically. The dimension of time, space, madness and chaos all intertwined, blasted through the bass of Steve Harris, and sound of the triple guitar attack. Nicko McBrain's drumming is heavy and atmospheric, and you are instantly submerged in some bizarre world. The fabric of the sound, the sheer chaos of it all is completely un-Maidenish, considering their obsession with immaculate harmonies and melodies. And then suddenly one drifts into the Final Frontier, and a more typical Iron Maiden sound.

To analyse the album - song, by song, would be tedious, it would take ages and it will not do the music any justice, so I will refrain from doing it. There are several reasons for that. The album is very complex, rich in composite harmonies, time changes, elaborate and epic solos and diverse vocal lines. Everyone would hear something that someone else is bound to omit, or not bother reflect on it. What makes the album hard to describe is that it lacks "distinguishable hits", just as there are no "weak links". It is the sort of composite album that takes time to grow on you, it needs to ferment properly, one must listen to it several times, and with each go, new covert harmonies, solos, drum beats, vocal and bass lines, are discovered.

What to expect? Its a conceptual album for the most part, much like the 1988 vintage Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, only the theme is futuristic, although not all songs would fit the mould. And apart from The Alchemist, Coming Home and Mother of Mercy (songs that are roughly five minutes in length), you will be treated to an epic, after epic, after epic, songs which are anywhere from eight to eleven minutes in length.

Heavy riffs on Starblind sounding like a lost spaceship, drifting through a distant galaxy, while that is interspersed with folkish melodies that first appeared on Dance Of Death, and were subsequently perfected on A Matter Of Life And Death and are now featured again. The Alchemist recalls lyrical themes of redemption, of battle-worn philosophy. And just about everywhere, you will encounter Maiden's unmistakable genetic makeup – their trademark 200km/h gallop. Adrian Smith, who is very heavily involved in the song writing process along with Steve Harris, has some mouth-watering solos, and the triple guitar attack with Dave Murray and Janick Gers, is as always, refined, simultaneously melodic, beautiful and brutal. Dave Murray has co-written only one song this time around, The Man Who Would be King, while Bruce Dickinson has co-written four, along with Harris, Smith and Gers.

The verdict? The album is positive, dark, it is heavy and melodic and sad all at the same time. Rich in beautiful vocal lines and guitar harmonies. It is soft and aggressive, heavy and enchanting. Is it better than their vintage? No it isn't, and it isn't worse. It is just different, and progressive but the Final Frontier is unmistakably – Iron Maiden. Make no mistake - there is no selling out here. Real Maiden fans ought to buy it because they will like it – it is as simple as that. It is also bound to attract its new share of fans on board of the Maiden bandwagon. As for those of you out there who never liked Maiden's music in the first place – don't worry – you won't like this one either, and that's just as well, because you are not welcomed in the community anyway.

Over a career chaptered by 15 studio albums spanning about 35 years, Maiden have always experimented with their ideas, but since Dickinson and Smith returned to the fold for Brave New World, the band have enriched their patented gallop with a generous dose of musical exploration. The scary thing is, they are getting older, better and more refined with time.

Considering their age, and the amount of time Maiden has been around, it is shocking just how good, modern and relevant they sound – by doing exactly the opposite – never being fashion conscious, never betraying their roots, and never wanting to be bloody relevant in the first place.

Was it worth the wait? Abso-bloody-lutely.

Up the Irons!
