Too bad the vid starts short. For those who know the live version, Udo starts with a typical "sing along" series of screams until the last one. I swear to God, he makes that unholy sound as if he were inhaling a scream. I couldn't reproduce it under penalty of death.
Ed note. This didn't work for me playing here. Hit the YouTube icon to see it. I swear. I love Halford but he couldn't make that first scream.

This is a new band that I really like. They are recording their first album and it should be out early next year. They sound like classic metal to me and the lead singer sounds a lot like RJD.
Alright. I just didn't realize at first how serious you are with playing in a band. And I understand what you mean by saying you want to do something lasting, something lasting at least in your own life. I have written some poem collections myself, five collections actually, and I got them published as one book. I knew that not many people care about poetry and I certainly knew I wouldn't make any money with the book, but it just felt nice to get it published and if one hundred people liked those poems, hey, great, I'm perfectly happy with that. So, I can't build a house, there's more than enough trees where I live and I probably never get married, but at least I wrote a book. In finnish of course because I'm finnish, in english I couldn't write much more than what you can see here. So, yes, the point is to do something that matters to you and if you can be happy with the end result, then everything's fine - if some other people like what you do that's a nice bonus, but not necessarily that important.

Quote: "to look like Rob did" [end] Think you are one of a few people now, who discovered that idea I had. And ... yeah ... I feels quite strange without my hair. Well ... I had the guts to cut my hair off and act in an amateur video clip, covering a song which could be way to big for us, playing along to the rest of the band, whose members did not learn / take any lessons in their instruments --- including myself. And now I'm proud as f*ck!
You mentioned that you were not sure about 'the point' of the clip. Well, I can't tell you about the others' motivation. But I can tell you about my reasons to do - for example - that video [on the web].
=> Many people say that man should do three things in life:
I.build a house
II.plant a tree
III.have a child
I will probably never have a chance to have a child with the one I loved. And since the day I came to this conclusion, I have been looking for a possibility to leave something behind that would last for long. I searched for something that would still be there, even if I had already been gone forever. And exactly THAT is the reason, why I’m still playing guitar and keep on singing. The interpretation of “Heading out to the highway” has been the first real video clip in combination with my work as a musician. And that again is why “Heading out to the highway” is my “little child”. <=
And this is what I told Jayne Andrews, when I asekd for publishing permission.
You sacrificed your long hair to look like Rob did? Well. That certainly IS dedication. I know. I would feel naked without my long hair. There is, of course, all kind of Judas Priest covers. The most memorable to me has been Pat Boone's You've got another thing coming. At first I thought it was a joke and sure, it IS a very tongue in cheek kind of thing, but then again, it also shows that a heavy metal song can be... well, just a song. Which is interesting - music is music and the same song can be done in many different ways. I'm not putting down your version of "Highway", it does have a certain light feeling in it and would actually be good driving music, just like the original is - if not even more so, just because of that light, mellow, relaxed feel. So, no problems, I can be critical but I can be less critical too, hehe...

The clip is definitely not meant to be a kind of joke. If I had wanted to make a joke or had wanted to make fun about anyone - except myself - I would never ever have sacrificed two years of groth of hair. Some of you might have noticed that the guitar playing guy and the singer in the clip are one and the same person. Hell, yeah! "I sacrificed my hair to kick some f*ckin' ass." You might take THAT fact quite funny, don't you? Best regards ... [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Pepe2 from Sunday, October 07, 2012 7:32:48 PM)

HAAA! Way cool! It was obvious that you were all having a blast making the video and now we even have "behind the scenes" commentary! Outstanding!
I was wondering who knew the police to get the car in there. Nice to know that you weren't arrested while making your "homage."
Thank you very much. I have been afraid of posting that into the board at first. I was thinkig of the huge mass of 'true' Priest fans, trying to tear us down after watching the clip. As a small local band, we always looked up to those great bands like Judas Priest, Saxon etc. of course. But we also saw some kind of 'idols' in other local bands, having been on stage much longer. One of that bands was called NOIZE. Those guys nearly 'lived' with us in the same practicing room for about ten years. Their cover version of the song inspired me to also do that song, which was originally released in the year I was born. In every case of life, I think it is very important to have such idols, since they are the ones that bring you forward in the end.
People shuold not take our video too serious. I am definitely not a Priest singer. But "Heading out to the highway" is quite a cool song made by one of the biggest bands on earth. Our interpretation is just meant to be a link to the past ... for memory purposes. People don't know that we did not get into a studio for recording. We used an old personal computer instead. We also did not have a professional camera, but used the video function of a standard digital photo-cam instead. As we prepared for "the race" ... to be located at a bus stop near the high school we all went to ... the local security watched us and called the police. We had already done a few pre-start-shots, when the police arrived. Finally - after long minutes of discussion, trying to not get arrested - we still had both cars parking parallel in the middle of the street. Being forced to drive away anyway ... we got the chance / were allowed to do that last shot. And so we did. This is actually the reason, why you do not see more takes of the race itself. In the end, I think, our hometown police dept. still doesn't know that it is co-starring in the clip.
It was really fun. And that is, what it always should be.

Fastway: Leave the light on.
Eddie Clarke, Motörhead's guitarist 1977-1982, still makes music. Sometimes. When he feels like it.
Eddie's style in Motörhead was unique, fascinating - fast and furious, yet soulful in it's own way. I have never heard anything quite like it. Eddie's band after Motörhead, Fastway, recorded two good albums, the self titled debut 1983 & All fired up 1984, powerful, bluesy stuff, and now Eddie is back with a new band, the name is still Fastway, but with different guys than before. It's very basic stuff, bluesy hard rock, nothing new really, but sounds good.

Same here, I'm a fan of the vocalist Geoff USED to be! He hasn't sung well or wanted to be metal for a long time. And you are right, the band hits the high notes for him now (keyboard player: his wife's ex-husband!). Go back to your CRAParet Geoff and leave the Queensryche name alone, you've damaged it enough
Hell, if you are going to chime in on the convo, at least post something Tate did THIS DECADE! That is him in 2001 on the "Live Evolution" DVD. Easy tell...Tate has hair!
How about the same song this year? Hard to hear but the audience and bandmates hit the high notes here. I am a Tate fan but more the way he was not the way he is now. You only have to watch him do this solo / acoustic version (also online) to know that you are comparing someone who wants to front a heavier band vs. one who now wants to sing cabaret.

I agree 100% with OM2. I tried to like it but, as i said, it is just a mess. All but two songs left on my iPod ("The Chase" is the second) and, of those, I only actually listen to the one named below. Outstanding tune.
As for the DVDs, I have Livecrime. Damn good and with CHRIS! Special love as I saw the tour. OM2, though?! BLEAH! I couldn't stand more than five minutes of it. Only reason I made it to five minutes was out of amazement and WTF moments! As you say, bad Broadway show. Closest I could get to describing it as well.
I like Empire, but it just doesn't have the edge that the earlier albums have. It just sounds more commercial to me and less metal. I used to listen to The Warning album everyday on my walk across the frozen tundra to my 8am class at MSU. No Sanctuary would play and it was just perfect for that moment. That song has some very intense vocals. Eddie and Whip were thrilled when I told them that The Warning was my favorite. Geoff? Not so much!
I think Geoff has been drinking too much of his shit wine, BTW!! OM2, what a fucking JOKE!! Only listened to it once and couldn't stand it. Did you watch the OM2 DVD? Geoff needs to just give it up and sing on Broadway. It's pretty obvious that THAT is what he really wants to do, although he totally SUCKS as an actor. Operation Mindcrime, now THAT was a KILLER concert!
guidogodoy wrote:
BTW, I pit "Empire" against "The Warning" as I think nothing tops "Operation: Mindcrime." I argue it like I would "The Wall." I love Pink Floyd - MANY earlier songs a few later. However, like OM, I see "The Wall" as an entity rather than individual songs. Sadly, Queensryche couldn't re-create the same magic with OM2. THAT is just a mess of songs to me and I do stress the word "mess."
Still, I think I have posted once or a thousand times that I love "Re-Arrange you!" HAAA!!!

- [HAAA! Ed note. I had all but forgotten the video. It tells a tale! About what, I am not exactly sure except that big-hair Geoff apparently freezes some big-boobed chick with a conch shell! Ah, the '80s. LOL!!]

Best comment on this video? "Why are they letting the roadie sing?" LOL!!!!

HAAAAAA!!!! Maybe you just didn't have enough "Insania!" before the concert!
Also perhaps why I prefer Empire over "The Warning." Never a huge fan of that song while I love Jet City Woman, Another Rainy Night, Empire and, yes, I'll admit it, even Silent Lucidity from time to time (although it is NOT on my iPod where the first three are mainstays).
Now, let's talk about Geoff's beard! WTF?!? LOL!!!
HA, you're right! Geoff would tell me I suck! Met him and thought he was an ass and completely full of himself. He came off as a slimy, used car salesman - polished, fake charm and feeding you complete bullshit with a big smile on his face. Geoff has a HUGE ego and Rob is very humble. Geoff only likes people that kiss his ass and Rob gets very uncomfortable when you compliment him. Geoff lost his voice a long time ago and Rob STILL HAS IT!! As Parker from QR said, there are 2 Queensryche's: one that will be playing the songs the way they were written and originally done and the other tuned WAY THE FUCK DOWN! HA! That is why Rob will always be #1 with me!!!
Don't get me wrong, Mindcrime is neck and neck with The Warning for me. But Take Hold Of The Flame breaks the tie for me. DAMN I Love that song!! And Todd can sing it, so I'll finally get to hear it the way it is supposed to be sung! The last time I heard it sung well was back during the Promised Land tour in '95. They played it when they opened for Priest during the AOR tour and it totally SUCKED!!! Oh wait, maybe it was US that SUCKED!

What?! You'd put "The Warning" in front of "Operation: Mindcrime"? No way! As Geoff would say, you suck! LOL!!!
(all kidding aside, I am on the fence with Geoff's comment to the crowd below. They DID suck! Tell them, though? I dunno. WWRD = What Would Rob Do? Well, certainly NOT the below!)

We are going to see the 3 original members of QR in December. Bet it'll be a hell of a show - they are playing all the old QR stuff that Geoff refused to sing, EP through Empire
