So they seem to believe. As I understood from the comments from that Eddie Trunk show (forgot who was also speaking on the subject..his guest), any band is usually involved in the re-master process. If not, it can and will occur without their input as they really did not anticipate such an eventuality way back when the original contracts were originally signed.
As part of the contracts, it was also common for a label to release individual tracks as they saw fit. Again, with or without the band's authorization. Here is where the bastardization comes into play. The band (or one or two members, as is usually the case) "re-mixes" / remasters the song and re-issues it and the label turns it to a subsidiary company to compile a CD. While the band (rarely ALL the band) may or may not have been involved in the original remaster, they were certainly not consulted in the release of a bargain-bin compilation. Even the photos are usually stock photos rather than any sort of original creative artwork.

I really have little doubt that, as Phantom said, the originally endorsed albums were also remastered and fully endorsed by the band themselves as such a process would involve re-mixing and digitizing. For the 10 studio albums and the 2 live albums it was
the idea of the band and the label to remastering the
back catalog of the band.
At this time Priest wasn't reunited and have their own
label "Priest Music Ltd" which with they have released
all the material with Tim Owens.

"Simply the best"
"Breaking the law"

"Priest Live and rare"

Good to point out especially because the "Insight" series was HORRIBLE! Sad thing is that they trusted Gull. I have plenty of interviews where they say that they are thankful for them and their support in getting their music out to the masses. Therefore the "Best Of" was certainly endorsed by the band AT ONE TIME. It is just the politics that came AFTER that made thing go south. and this is "The best of..." from Gull, 'Cause it was
the first and so the first with this title too.
This is a fact and not Guido's and my opinion.

There were a few released. One travesty was the one with "Best of" on one side and "Sad Wings" on the other. Like you'd want to flip it over?!? (still hope you enjoy that one, Dawn! LOL!!).

DC, I only stated the obvious as you corrected me on the "Best of JP." Nope, Album was never called that but keep in mind to whom you type. An old fart who LIVED AND DIED for the "Best of JP." A standard throughout my college years. Put it on and it was an instant party. SACRED, IOW! Own it some four times in four different formats.
I hold the line. Yours is not a "remaster." It is a compilation. There are at least four others that offer the "best of." However, to an old fart like me (and many like me) there is and will only be ONE "Best of Judas Priest." Gull - the Picture disc is even the exclusive Milan release (others came around from other countries...nothing close to the quality).
Jest a purist / obsessive collector sayin' ....

Oh, No, No, NO, No,...........it is not a part of the original "remasters" list. It's not! Go look it up. I may have been remastered but it is not part of the remasters list. Check out what came in the Box set and how many slots provided to fit in said box. NO, not a part of the remasters.

That is true and also the scariest thought of all! No one, no matter their age is prepared for that. makes me think of that poor woman attack by a chimp recently. That's the difference between youth and the aged...we can laugh about it all now...no use being scared, the years come and go whether you're ready or not!!!...I always tended to gravitate to the 'older' crowd when I was growing up...so I guess I grew up a little quicker than some...but you have plenty of time...so enjoy it!!! Besides, it's not like we're dead, at least I know I still get around...hehehe

Awe...20 years old...so young...20 yrs.ago today I was divorced (first of two), been half way around the world and back...dating what would turn out to be my 2nd wife (and mother of my daughter)...now that's getting old...enjoy it while you've got it because it goes quicker than you think!!

The re-release of Best of....
The LP just had the songs. The re-release had the songs plus the interviews. I have both (just for the interviews!). Got it on tape AND picture disc too, now that I think about it! LOL!!!

Look at the date. It was not the original release. Again, think about it, how COULD it be? "Living After Midnight" was only written / released years later!
"The Best of Judas Priest" is an album in and of itself. YOU have a re-release compilation with completely different songs. This one is a classic and focuses on their early career (starting with 1974 tunes).

I hardly think the copy sitting in my collection is a figment of my imagination.... Yeah i'm guessing there is an earlier version of Best of... But the one i have is called Best of living after midnight... oh and i happen to know a guy who lives in Detroit who owns the same copy.....
