I think a great cover song should sound as though its the covering band's own creation, not just a rented song. Not make it a complete imitation of said song, but taking it and shaping it until it sounds fresh and new. It should make the listener forget (at least for a while) that the song is originally from another band. IMO a great cover song needs to be recognizable as a cover, but not the same. listened to some Iron maiden cover today (forget who, doing Rime...) and it sucked. sounded like they were trying to sound exactly the same. if they succed in sounding the same, then whats the point, if they fail, then they fail.
never heard fleetwood mac's Green manalishi, but, priest hit it well with Diamonds, and jonny be goode. changed, but similar, yet their own.
any thoughts? |

Oh, sorry....corrected my own error already. You never said that they opened with it only that THEY opened for Priest. Right-O! Priest not only didn't let me down, they picked me up dusted me off and set me up on cloud 9! Almost (and I do mean almost) worth the years of waiting. I am just impatient and they are just too damn good! Only regret is that I only got to see them once this tour. Better than most, I know...
Take care of yourself, my friend. Hope you feel better soon. Sounds like the boys did not let you down. Vacation in Brazil sounds nice. We went to Cancun last March and are planning for Costa Rica this March. Better get to bed as I have been feel pretty lousy. I have had a ripper of a headache since Mon. Take Care talk to you soon. | | guidogodoy wrote: | | Cool!
Since CO? Hmmm....another month in Brazil. There should still be a couple of pics in the "picture of you" thread. Went for a bit of travel and ran the 1/2 marathon in Rio.
Still eclipsed by the BIG trip. PRIEST! I certainly cherish it more. They weren't coming to me so I had to go to them. As I said, gotta keep your priorities straight!
Speaking of which, do post a pic of that tat when you get it done...well, provided it doesn't violate Freeze's sense of decorum, that is! |
