Nope, this summer I have just looked at it and laughed, knowing it's not going to hang around.  I hope we dont get a blizzard this year! As it seems like right weather for one!

I am not looking forward to it! I hope this fall it will dry out a bit as we ARE 7 inches above normal rainfall for the area! But then all the bleeding hearts will be screaming we need more water to keep the fire hazzards down! I hope winter doesn't suck to bad as I really dont want to go back to digging my  car out of the driveway like it used to be. But chances are, it's time for one of those winters.

Even though spring officially starts tomorrow, I'm betting that the wintery weather will stick around for a while yet! Yeah, I'd be worried about the nastiness heading your way too considering you had a crappy summer!

Nothing to disagree about Guido...as you grew up there I would expect you to know more of what the deal is for how much longer it's been happening.  I'm an outsider looking in and that's just what I've seen since the late '80's.  The road to recovery is a long one, but it's definitley doable!!

Good morning Metalheads

Good Morning to you Bev! (and whoever may be up and around)

It's a fantastic day here in Africa, sunny and happy lol.

I'm feeling human again, just the tail end of this flu and I have a very important day tomorow. Two really cool things are going to be happening so I shall fill you in on events as they happen lol.

I hope everyone is having a really wonderful sunday and getting ready for a productive, positive week ahead xxx

Good Sunday morning to all at JP.com

Busy in the neighborhood last evening!  'Love the redneck mansion!!! LOL
[guidogodoy] Saturday, August 29, 2009 10:53:25 PM
Sorry to disagree but having grown up there since '68, I say that it almost HAS gone south overnight. Look at the history of I94 and the effects of the race riots. 94 had virtually no exits to the previously thriving neighborhoods after the race that had the Civil Guard protecting the suburbs. Especially the rich ones like Grosse Pointe and Bloomfield Hills. They set up sandbags with submachine guns on top to "keep the peace" in the suburbs. All very well documented.

As for mayors, to me, that is Coleman Young. He had a stranglehold on the city that was second to none. Kwame was a second joke that lasted only a few years. Coleman and his cronies lasted some 20 years!!!

Ok, enough of this blah. Let's get back to Priest. Especially how Detroit LOVES them!

[ron h] Saturday, August 29, 2009 10:03:47 PM
I've been traveling to and from Detroit since '88.  There's been a lot of changes since then with the Pistons winning in the late 80's then moving to Auburn Hills, steel mills closing and we all are aware of the auto ind. problems and lets not forget the last mayor (ugh)!!  But in all fairness, there are a lot of folks that have never given up and have stayed and slowly it's trying really hard to make the necessary changes...but just as it didn't get that way over night, it's not gonna change over night either.  I really hope things change as it can be a beautiful city with wonderful arcitecture and landscapes.  Anyone who wants a taste of Detroits fashionable history can walk through the convention center and read the captions to all the many pics hanging on the walls and the statues and things preserved for viewing...

[guidogodoy] Saturday, August 29, 2009 9:43:39 PM
Sorry for the delay...had to eat.

Detroit has a REALLY sad neighborhood right by a rescue place that is basically where the homeless set up. Thousands, literally. I never showed it to DF but that is why it pissed the hell out of me when some uppity bastard thrashes the RedWings for having "empty seats" in "Hockeytown."  What a bunch of bull.  I LOVED Bongwater who said that he loved hockey but we just can't get it here. Right on! Someone with half a brain who understands the situation. Imagine living in the street or, at best, a TENT!

Look, to cut a long story short, look at the way they ran the freeways. NO exits to the suburbs but right out to where the big car-makers made their homes. Read the Autobiography of Malcolm X! Talks all about it the overt racism and what it did to the inner city.

It IS getting better, though. I love the city and will defend it to the death. It IS Hockeytown, USA even if people can't afford tickets. Ignorant dolt, anyone who could think otherwise. Never been here.

Actually, we did try to trick her workmates a few years ago. She was working at a bagel place while at uni, and me and Craig were visiting her. We came to the street where she worked and she said her workmates didn't know we were twins, so I wandered in to the store and was staring at the menu above the counter. The girl behind the counter was looking at me like WTF, you work here! LOL that was kinda funny.

It is! But Zella is like me, big hearted and wanting to do the right thing. She shuffled for the past three weeks to find this family a place to stay each night since their unfortunate circumstance.  Now they both have jobs in the area and will both be ok along with their kids. Zella is a woman I admire so very much.

That breaks hearts. And you really can do nothing to help them most times. I would like to say that a company called CASE West Virginia just got a family off the streets.
They moved to this area to stay temporaliy with a couple of "friends" and the friends turned them out quickly as they didn't get jobs off the bat. Had CASE not helped them they would have been homeless. But due to Zella stepping in and helping them they will have an apartment at the beginng of next week and My facility hired Moma and the Dad already has a job. Thank god for Guardian Angels sometimes.

When I spent a week up there last September, I'd walk from the hotel to the arena/convention center on the main drag and all along the way were the homeless, sleeping in the parkway and in the crevices of the old church there...truly disheartening.  I'm not sure what happened to Detroit, but it was once a mighty city with a lot to offer.  I can't believe it all is a result of the auto industry as there's so much more there than just that...it's a truly sad situation that's been getting worse (if possible) rather than better...

Ohhhhhh.....just having backread, this reminds me of the torture of being stuck in Texas! DAMN!!!! County after county! No, here is funny. Especially for a kid from Detroit. Drive through. Hell, get out of the car at least! This comes on top of reading of yet another teenage mother who was drunk and killed her kid for no seatbelt.

Yeah, "dry county" I learned only means that they just sell beer. Have to drive 10 minutes away for wine or liquor. Ooooooooooo..... Frankly, I have never seen so many young unwed mothers with no father-figure in my LIFE before moving here.

Well, the problem's gone now. Maybe it was a temporary glitch.

Speaking of travel, I could possibly go to the Eastern US by train, although it might take forever.
