A word to anyone transporting food this time of year or any other! Place the container in a cardboard box that will secure it! Nothing sucks more than cleaning an entire crockpot of chili out of the floorboard of your car in your "nice" work clothes and having to call the maintenance department for emergency use of the shop vac, and house keeping for the best grease stripper they've got! Yep, spilit food looks like vomit instantly in the floorboard of the car! |

I dragged my husband, brother and SIL to Phantom of the Opera last week. SIL and I love Phantom and we told the guys - it'll be dark, there's guitars, there's a nut who murders people - oh yeah and they sing. It won't be that bad.
IT WAS THE WRONG ADAPTATION - WHAT A FUCKING RIPOFF!! It was so BAD that we couldn't even laugh at how bad it was!! They made the Phantom into this whiny little pansy who plays practical jokes on people. This retard probably couldn't work a lasso if he tried. I was prayin someone would drop a chandelier on Christine and SHUT HER UP. Thank God the bartender had the sense not to give me a glass bottle....I would've really fucking done it. About giving things a chance, not giving in to trends or people, about how people today seem focused on very shallow things like appearances. I too feel like an "old fogie" at 42. I much prefer yesterdays music to todays music. I'm more interested in whether a singer can sing, what they're singing about, the lyrics, the instrumentation, than listening to someone scream into the microphone while their "band" kills your ears.
I've also been told that I'm shy but when I'm with the right people who get me, I am far from shy. I guess it's just a matter of where you feel comfortable. These days I really don't have many friends either and my best friend, my fiance, recently died so.......

Well said People need to give everything a chance - I may only be young but i know enough to realise that my generation is impatient, quick to judge, wasteful and self centred. They don't give anything a second glance unless the tools controlling fashion and the media/culture say it's "cool" there are only a handful of of us who appreciate those who have gone before us, those who have florished well before we were born, and trends that were set before our time. And i'm not one of those hipsters who likes to wear retro because it's cool, for example if im wearing a band shirt or sporting a badge with a band name on it, rest assured i know who they are, what they play and own some of their albums.
I feel like in a way i'm forced to listen to older bands, and albums because whats on offer currently from newer bands just lacks depth, unless anyone can suggest anything? And not any of those bands who just cut and copy riffs and lyrics from the legends and sell it as their own.. oh and having a vocalist who sings is good too.. i hate that screaming / growling crap.

I kind of embrace the term 'being stuck'. When it's used against me, it makes me happy in a way that reminds me that I never let go of what made (makes) me happy!!

Hi ronhartsell,
Thanks for the kind words of support.
Amen brother!
42 as well huh? I'm an Aquarian (February), you?
I've gotten that same thing said to me (being told I'm 'stuck'). It's always said by someone who claims to care, but in reality they don't. They don't know you, much less accept you for you who are, so how could they care?!
You'd know if you were shy. From what I've read from you, shy is not a word I'd use to descibe you! (admittedly I don't know you well--yet)

Morning Caron, you will never be alone here!! Never!! Never, ever put any stock in those that try to bring you down or try change you. You have to live with you, and that's all that matters. True friends will love you through thick and thin, no matter what, and that's the greatest gift one can give to another.
It looks like the 40+ crowd (?) has been chimming in (I'm 42), and even though you 'don't have to be old to be wise', there is something to be said for enduring life's challenges (God knows they never stop).
I don't get into a lot of today's trends, never have been a follower, and that comes with the ridicule of be 'stuck', but I see it differently. Our age changes, what makes us happy and comfortable doesn't.
As for being shy?! I couldn't tell!!

I so agree with everything you guys (devils_child, scorpion01, Deep Freeze) said.
Thanks for saying some of the things I was thinking and letting me know I'm not alone.

What really pisses me off is when someone makes a judgment of a album without giving it a chance. If you want to understand why or where your band is going with there music at least listen to the damn album. You know heavy metal is not all about screaming thru the whole song, lets get back to where the music moves you deep down. This judas priest album does that for me, thank you to band that stayed with there roots and did'nt get caught up in the screaming crap.

Well, I happen to celebrate 2 birthdays...my real one is August 18, which makes me a Leo...My adopted birthday is May 8, 2003, a day in which my life was literally saved...I'm not sure what the sign is for that, but I think it only counts for the original...but for me personally, it truly is a 2nd lease on life!!!
I kind of embrace the term 'being stuck'. When it's used against me, it makes me happy in a way that reminds me that I never let go of what made (makes) me happy!!

Hey hellion1969,
Thanks for the support dude!!!
I've always tried to be uniquely me, never followed trends. I like what I like and don't care who agrees with me. I've been called strange and wierd and to those people I say "Thanks for the compliment!'. They get confused and wait while I explain that being called strange and wierd means that I'm unique and different, unlike most people, and that's exactly what I was aiming for!
And to you and devils_child, I believe we are family! Thanks bro! Thanks sis! I have felt more at home here on the board than I have elsewhere in a long time (with exception to being with my fiance; R.I.P. honey). Thanks devils_child. I appreciate your words of support and being reminded of those lyrics. Thanks JP for writting them!
You mentioned United We Stand. After my fiance died this past June, I was trying to think of a way to pay tribute to him. Here in N.Y. on Friday nights we listened to the Eddie Trunk metal show on Q104.3 together. So I wrote an e-mail to Eddie about my fiance dieing, and about being a fan of the show and a huge Judas Priest fan (if you've heard the show then you know Eddie is also a huge Priest fan and has them on the show often). Eddie wrote back that he would say something on the air to pay tribute to Michael (my fiance), and that I should call in once the show began to remind him. Well after saying some really nice words about Michael, the first song he played that he dedicated to him was, United We Stand. So now everytime I hear that song it has special meaning for me. UNITED WE STAND!
I can totally relate to being shy at first, but once im in my comfort zone i let loose.. im a wild child every part a 20 year old chick with no boundaries.
Another thing to add, we are all here for each other and will be there when your feeling blue.. to quote Judas Priest: "So when you get those blue days, here's just what to do... Switch into this lifeline and feel it rushing through. Before you know it blue days are better left behind. By juicin' up your system with this beat of a heavy kind.." IM GONNA ROCK FOREVER! From a band who knows the true value of playing their musical instruments with talent and a guy who knows how to sing like the heavens are opening up! We love the Priest. | | caronctm wrote: | | I so agree with everything you guys (devils_child, scorpion01, Deep Freeze) said. Man I love what you say, seriously - i have tried to talk to other people about this and all they say to me is try and get out more.. what you just said really hit home. Thanks for your support and advice. I feel more and more welcome on this forum everyday.
I just read the lyrics to "dont try so hard"... that's awesome! I'm gonna have to listen to the song now. Gotta love Queen [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by scorpion01 from Wednesday, October 08, 2008 8:27:56 AM) | | scorpion01 wrote: | | Devils Child - I was going to respond to you last night, but it was late when I saw you rsponce. I think the bottom line is don't try so hard to be someone you want to be. Let it come naturally. Don't worry about being shy. There is nothing wrong with it. When you are in an enviornment you are comfortable with you will open up with out trying and you will be more comfortable because it will be who you are, not who you are trying to be. You will be more sincere and feel more relaxed. There are many people in your pary of the world just like you.
Have you ever listened to the song "Don't try so Hard" by Queen. It was one of the last songs Freddie Mercury wrote before he died. He was one of the shiest people on this planet. But give him a mic and an audience and some music. Man, He was one of the greatest and most flamboient performers ever. As well as a great musician. (Google the lyrics)
And Hey Necroticist you can be a black sheep , but not the only black sheep. Growing up in Brooklyn in the 1970 when for a few years every one loved disco (YUK). Twisted sister being a local band had a song for us:
BLACK SHEEP OF THE FAMILY
NOTHING LIKE THE REST
SEPARATE FROM THE OTHERS
FAILING ALL THEIR TESTS
CAN'T THEY SEE YOU'RE DIFFERENT
SO HUNGRY AND SO LEAN
YOU'RE A WALKING WONDER
YOU'RE A METAL MACHINE
LOOK AND YOU'LL SEE
YOU'RE A LOT LIKE ME
YOU'RE A SICK MOTHER FUCKER
YOU'RE AN S.M.F.
YOU'RE AN S.M.F.
YOU'RE AN S.-M.-F.
CAUGHT UP IN THEIR WORRIES
AND TOMORROW'S DREAM
MISSING ALL THE LIVING
MILK WITHOUT THE CREAM
THEY THINK YOU'RE SO FOOLISH
LIVING FOR TODAY
CARING JUST WHAT YOU THINK
NOT WHAT OTHERS SAY
JOIN WITH US
OH, HOW THEY'LL SCREAM AND FUSS
YOU'RE AN S.M.F.
YOU'RE AN S.M.F.
YOU'RE AN S.M.F.
YOU'RE AN S.-M.-F.
ALL RIGHT, ALL RIGHT
WE'RE THE ONES THAT LIVE IT
WE'RE ALL REALLY FREE
AND IF THEY THINK THAT WE'RE SICK
THEN SICK IS WHAT WE'LL BE
SCREAM IT LOUD
KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BE PROUD
YOU'RE AN S.M.F.
YOU'RE AN S.M.F.
YOU'RE AN S.M.F.
YOU'RE AN S.-M.-F. |
