Probably the 52,42,32 set?
Those will cause the rise on the bridge for sure. The Floyd type just seems to be happiest with 9 to 42`s.
Is the shop still going to put the same gauge on ?

Yeah thats another thing about floating trems. If you change guage of string then prepare to spend a good chunk of time getting the trem set back up correctly. I run nothing but lights or 9 guage and try to stay with the same size for each string. That way the tweeking is minimal when you change it out.
The best way to avoid having problems with a floating trem is to NOT HAVE ONE!!! lol. I am shit canning this friggin floyd rosed ibanez when all of this recording I am doing now is complete. I've been playing for 30 years and had trems for 27 of those and am sick to death of dealing with them. Good luck.....

Very true,I didn`t think bout the gauge. I once tried some 10`s instead of my usual 9`s and the tremelo came up quite abit. Instead of having it adjusted,i just went back to my 9`s and all was good again. There is enough adjustment that you could go up to a really large E,maybe to a 60 or so. But you would probably have to tune it way down to help alleviate the increased tension in the larger gauge. but I`m no Luthier.

guitardude is right..Dont ever pull all of the strings off a floyd rose!! Do each at a time. Floating tremolos are a major pain in the ass. The old Kahlers seemed a bit better and easier to deal with but the floyd rose system, in which the entire unit itself moves, is much more difficult. Do them one at a time and you will keep all of your hair......

You have touched the most Un-holy grail of problems with floating bridges. The Floyd type bridges are a royal pain in the ass.
Ideally,the bridge should set level when the guitar is in tune. This may not be your personal preference though. It takes an hour or so to get a floater into tune properly. The bridge will move around as you put tension on each string.
It really is a balancing act (literally). It takes practice and patience. The one way to avoid the entire hassle is to change one string at a time and not remove all the old strings all at once. This still isn`t a fix,just makes it a little simpler.
I wouldn`t adjust the springs in back unless you want the bridge to stay back some. And dear god,don`t over tighten those bolts on the bridge when re-installing your strings.

Usually the "speed demons" prefer it. It works well with the combination of the need for speed and the super relaxed light touch it takes to achieve it.

| Looked up scalloped fretboards after I read this- cool idea but I can't see that its very practical to have the whole board scalloped if you do a lot of rhythm work, the top frets I can understand though I do an inordinate amount of sliding when I solo, so surely it would make that tougher- of course, it may be I have mistunderstood the whole concept, in fact very likely. I'll come back to this thread when I've had some sleep. |

OK,answered my question today with a trip to Guitar Center,I played a Yngwie model strat that had the scalloped fretboard. Interesting!! You almost have two notes per fret to play. I do like the look of the Vandenberg models,but the one thing I do want to get away from is that reverse headstock. Not so much a fan of them anymore. that won`t stop me if I find a guitar that speaks to me though.

I think Fender just brought him around because the Jackson fanatics more or less expected Fender to ultimately squash their competition and throw Jackson under the bus. This was compounded when they moved Jackson production to the Fender plant in Corona, California.
Personally, I rarely use the neck pickup except when looking for a more acoustic-like clean sound. I tried swapping the EMG's around in my DK2M, but that was a waste of time, and the 85 KILLS in the neck position. My only other real neck pickup experiences I have had were with Duncan JB's ( lifeless bland tone killers IMHO) and a Dimarzio Super Distortion ( way too muddy).

I`ve seen those models and like them alot. I`m not strictly a single coil in the neck guy,I did the look of the humbuckers,and a coil tap would be the addition i would probably make. When I`m really getting into playing,I do like to tone it down for a softer interlude at times. But realistically,I would use it for blues stuff and anything clean as i like the way a single coil gets very bell like in it`s tone. The Seymour Duncan Vintage staggered in my BC is just perfect. It has decent output and a great frequency response. The Duncan Jazz neck humbucker or the Dimarzio Evolution neck model would be a good change.
Isn`t Charvel still under the Fender blanket? I see where Grover Jackson is doing a elite series with them. Got alot of potential there as Grover is still an incredible designer and builder.

You know, I really hate to sound like I am always promoting their stuff, but there are also some other Charvel models that may give you another option.
These sell everywhere for $999 and come with a gig bag. Those who have them are extremely pleased with them, and you could add a coil tap to the neck pickup and still have the option of the humbucker....

You are correct in the pickup configuration I want and the bridge.That Charvel is awesome. I have looked at the Warren DeMartini models they have currently as they are about the same price as the GL models. The Charvel`s have the compund radius necks with the spacing that I like(1 11/16). the GL models do not(the radius anyway). Thanks for the link,Ill look into them. I would go with the Red with the Maple fingerboard,I`ve always had a thing for the maple fingerboards,more an asthetic thing than sound. Ebony is a hard wood and it`s darker color lends itself to looking good for a guitar. But a maple board with a matching (body color) headstock will always get my vote.
It would seem that ESP is overly proud of those George Lynch models also. The custom shop is just high,so one of the premier series that go for around 3600. will be more inline of what I might go with,but then again,what the hell do I need with a guiatr that costs that much??
Let`s see.... get played once a month and set around in the case the rest of the tim in a dark closet. Maybe I should just drop this notion until a Phantom GT comes up somewhere!! I always liked those when they were new,so now that they`re un-obtanium,makes the pot even sweeter.

"Finished when it is finished" reminds me of the 3DRealms slogan for Duke Nukem IV (videogame nerds know what I mean!). Duke Nukem Forever has become an industry joke as it has FOREVER!! It was announced in 1997 and people are still waiting. Obviously, the KxK people never heard of this slogan tied to such a joke "protracted delivery schedule" videogame either.
That aside, what are your choice in options? While I actually like the red, scalloped frets, maple fingerboard, I think I'd be leaning more towards what KK actually plays now. Howse 'bout you? Go KK authentic or color of choice?

2399.99 for an introductory price,not bad,less than I thought it would be. Got the cash,but not gonna wait that potetial year to get as they say...".it`s done when it`s done", man those folks need a lesson in customer service! Their attitude has helped with my decision to not get one.
Allthough I`m not a "V" guy,they are beautiful guitars and i would like to have one,so now it`s on to the ESP site for a George Lynch model I guess?

Never a big fan of the headstock on that one. Reminds me too much of Ripper-era that, again, isn't really my cup-o-tea.
Now were GLENN'S current Hamer(s) to go up for sale. I think I'd be selling plasma to get THAT!

You know, that mini V is probably my least fav guitar. Not that I would run were someone to offer it to me but I still marvel at the beautiful tiger-striping of this '84 Hamer as I do the sound and look of the Gibson V.
I would love to try one of those KxKs just to feel the scalloped fingerboard. Robo used to swear by them. Where HAS that fellow gotten off to, btw? I miss his guitar expertise.
