I know I havent been on hardly at all within the last few years but I had to pop on and say how saddened I am at the mighty Priest retirement.  I owe SO MUCH to this band.  They pulled me into a musical direction and gave me the instrument to play way back in the late 70's and I will be forever in their debt.

It is a retirement well deserved.  Priest has SO many accomplishments and I know they can all look back on their careers with heads held high.  I truely believe that Judas Priest took metal in the early 70's and pushed it so much further than what Black Sabbath could do.  They took it away from blues based heavy rock and forged it into something so powerful that even Sabbath emulated it and nowhere near as good.  They gave us the look and the sound that we ALL associate with heavy metal....LONG LIVE JUDAS PRIEST....

I put this to Justin on Facebook yesterday and want to say it here as well.  If anyone wants to do a pilgrimage to a show on the final tour and if you live in NY or PA or OH or where ever let us know.  You can find me on Facebook ( Phillip Ewing, North Tonawanda, NY or the Takken band page ) or let me know on here......

It was awesome, Spa.  Best show I have ever seen.

Still have to see the nuero doctor for the migraines but that can wait till next year.  Have to get my arse in gear and get ready for work.  Blech.

to move from priest sad news to some funny/sad/pathetic.  went to my sons christmas concert today, grade 7 and 8.  I appreciate all the moms dressing up fancy and trying to look pretty, but its a middle school band concert, not a singles bar.  the hooker boots might be excessive, the CAMELTOE (on two different women) is over the top.  FFS!!!!

Well, I am here again...

Shitty news this morning about the farewell tour.  :(  I'm just going to enjoy the ride and get to as many shows as possible.

But my life has been crazy...I have been battling Crohn's and migranes but I am feeling a lot better.  I have the beasts (the corgis) to keep me company and busy!

Just saw Halford in Allentown, front row...AMAZING.

Hi, gang! Yes, its me. I heard the news and thought I would stop by for a few words. I know that many of you find this news difficult to accept and I suppose there is a part of me that feels the same, however, I find this moment more bittersweet. We all have such wonderful memories of this great, great band. So many things we will always recall with tremendous fondness as we remember where we were when or what we were doing..... All the fantastic concerts we have enjoyed, the awesome music they have made and the amazing people we have met. And, of course, there is this site. I cannot say what will become of this place when the guys finally play that last song. I assume there are many tears to be shed and many hugs to share. I will always be grateful to the people that made this site more than just a web page. More than just a fan site. I found friendship here that I will cherish for the rest of my days. I have not been here much in the last few months and I quite likely will not be back too often. I prefer to remember this site for what it was and who was here. I prefer to remember all the friends I have made and all the great times we had here. All in the name of the GREATEST band ever! They have given us SO much more than music. They are and will always be a part of us. When I hear a Priest song, I will think of you all. I will remember those crazy days of years ago. The laughs we shared and some of the tears. The fun and even the bad moments. I will remember the FAITHFUL DEFENDERS. Our two albums and all that went into them. The days at MM's house. The sights that the Princess and I saw in New York. The WONDERFUL music we made. Perhaps we will see one another at one of the final shows next year? I know that I will think of you when I see the boys making their final stop near me! I thank all of you for the many years we have spent together. I love you guys. Please remember that. Please remember me. Thank you Rob, Glenn, Ian and Scott. I will remember you.

WHAT THE CRAP???!!! This is just something I didn't expect this morning!! I nearly choked on my breakfast burrito reading this news!! Wow. Guess that does it then. This is a sad day for heavy metal; the final tour of the Metal Gods. Damn, guess I will save as much money as possible for a meet and greet before they are gone forever.

Well my friends, the day has finally come...the announcement of a "Farewell Tour"....that hurts.
Very sad day indeed. I do not know what to think of the timing...would have rather gotten the news after the holiday's, yet as I think about it, now I could ask for all kinds of JP stuff for Christmas that I normally wouldn't get!

This mine is on the South Island, so not near me. To lose 29 people, for a nation of just over 4 million, is a big shock. I have heard about the WV mine too, how eerily similar it was to here. It's sad in the WV case the company sounds very corrupt. It is fortunate that the CEO of Pike River Mine (the mine here) has fronted every media conference, is obviously shattered and has conducted himself with grace and integrity.

I did hear about that. Sad thing to have happen. How close was the mine to your area Becks?

The story sounded very familiar to a Mine tragedy in WV not long ago. Methane was the cause there too.  They never stood a chance to get anyone out due to the very high levels of methane filing the mine. 33 people died. The mine was not safe to enter to retrieve the bodies for several weeks.  It will surprise no one familiar with American mining that the company in charge of the mine was Massey Energy. That company is all about greed and cuting corners. They are always running Massey commercials here trying to con the public into thinking they are working to resolve these issues. Bull.

Well I want this year to be over, well and truly. It's been a shocking year for my wee country. You guys may not have seen on the news over there, but last friday a coal mine on the South Island had an explosion, which trapped 29 miners. Rescuers had not been able to go in due to the gas levels, methane mostly. And today we found out, there was a second massive explosion at the mine. Police and the mine company have said, there are no survivors, the blast was too huge

I'll take the full body scan when going through security at Sacramento International Airport. Hopefully it will be quick and painless.

If not, then I'll ask to be packed in a giant box with styrofoam peanuts and a giant roll of bubble wrap to pass the time while in the cargo plane. I'll even pay extra for overnight delivery.

I heard the lines were quick.  not at all friendly though.  well trained and armed people, not min wage.  one of the pre board screeners at yyc is someone I fired for theft.  now you cant disclose that... if anyone had bothered to check a reference but still.

packing us like freight is the ideal solution.

I've never been to Ben Gurion Airport in Israel either but I know a lot of people who have both from this country and others. As I understand, Israel isn't exactly gun-shy there either. Their airport security isn't made up of a great number of ill-trained, minimum wage employees. From all accounts, you best show up 3 hours early to the airport and be prepared to have any electronic device taken away or even destroyed based on the slightest suspicion. A friend who worked with the Spanish Embassy and is used to such treatment even described Tel Aviv as both "polite" yet "unpleasant." Either you know and are travelling with an Israeli, ARE one or are in a tour group. All others are highly suspect.

450 airports in the USA vs. 1 in Israel hardly makes this a viable option, though. Puffer technology or, better yet, just freeze everyone and treat 'em like freight. No bomb threats, no bad food, not even the problem of getting sick from a fellow passenger if they use enough Saran Wrap.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Head banger from Tuesday, November 23, 2010 2:54:49 PM)

they also have people with guns present all over the place, but there are no lines.  I dont know, have never been there.

I will say this for having people armed at every counter.  when I was in cuba and I saw the guys delivering to a bank or filling a bank machine and 5 guys with AK47s staring down everyone who was near, I crossed the street to avoid them.  still a 1 hour lineup is bullshit.  that bothers me more than the pat down or the guy eyballing my junk on a screen.

The Israeli airport security system is less physically intrusive but is based on racial profiling. Such a system would never be authorized here in the US as, unlike Israel, minorities have strong anti-discrimination rights. More importantly, they have stronger financial and political backing in terms of lobby groups to protect those rights whereas the "common" US citizen does not.

I guess it doesnt bother me, but I am sure there are better ways.  Isreal doesnt have planes hijacked or bombed, or lineups, patdowns etc.
[guidogodoy] Tuesday, November 23, 2010 12:34:07 PM
Only if you are lucky. 80% still go through regular metal detectors.

I love the argument I have seen about "don't like it, don't fly." Keep that in mind when you need to get home. Remember, the backscatters are here, not there. Hey, you can always opt to take a boat home.

Has anyone actually flown in the US lately? At least been keeping up with the "don't touch my junk, bro" issue? It is certainly a more invasive patdown. The TSA has been a disaster since it took over (surprise surprise) and can't even keep their own ranks safe having given numerous screening jobs and even pilot lessons to illegals. Even better, they have yet to catch a soul.

Everyone is for safety, but this is a complete joke in the guise of "protection." I hope that opt-out day does something tomorrow.

[guitardude] Tuesday, November 23, 2010 10:48:57 AM
I know this whole screening procedure is a pain in the ass, but let`s not forget why it`s being done.
[Head banger] Tuesday, November 23, 2010 8:24:56 AM
I am sure its no more invasive than the patdown that I got going to the system of a down concert.  the good news there was that women could only be searched by female screeners, but since there were no girls in line I got felt up by a fairly atractive girl, not the guy who looked like he never bathed.  good fun.  they checked you close enough to know your religion....

As Thankgiving approaches, for those who shall be flying, are you looking forward to the body scan or the complete "pat down"?
Nothing like being felt up at the airport by strange people wearing latex gloves.

I'm thinking I would go for full body scan.  Afterall, if you look at enough naked bodies, like in art class, they all just look like nothing but objects.
