May depend on who your trying to PM. If a person has their settings to except PM's from friends only, and they have not added you to their friends list, then it wont go through. Or it could be just a minor glitch in the system at this time. Try again later.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Necroticist from Sunday, November 21, 2010 8:34:20 AM) Edited at: Sunday, November 21, 2010 8:38:22 AM

Our interstate highway reststops have those kind of toilets. They are also infrared flushers, so if you move (at all in some cases) it starts to flush. Best to be out of the way.  Those work pretty good, but they did the same thing to the sinks too and you end up waving you hands in all manners of patterns trying in vain many times to get the water to turn on, even then, if goes off again before you get all the soap off your hands. Annoying.

I've never been to the states but in Canada the toilets are filled almost to the top with water so that when you flush it creates a whirlpool effect, In NZ there is only a small amount of water in the bottom of the bowl so the flush is created throuh a large amount of water smashing down on the offending substance, so our toilets rely on just the power of the flush going down, not in any particular direction

Aha! Well that would explain the anomaly (or perhaps standard) I found today: most of my toilets are spinning counter-clockwise. Are the Simpsons making things up? Are there directional outlets making the water spin one direction? If I pour Mobile 1 in the toilet, will it make it flow faster and last longer?

Now I'll have to experiment with the sink. Better yet, the bathtub as it would hold more water. Have to see if the rubber duck spins clockwise or counterclockwise when I drain it.

[Head banger] Wednesday, November 17, 2010 8:21:17 AM
toilets are different, they are built to spin the water, thus they create direction.  a sink, with the water left to stop any motion from filling it,  and the plug pulled straight out, thats the key

Ive decided to take part in this scientific investigation.

I am pleased to report that my toilet flows anti-clokwise. Which is weird, because Im on the northern hemisphere.

There are two options:

a. The whole country has been magicaly transported into the southern hemipshere,
b. The Simpsons are wrong

And becasue, as we know, Simpsons are never wrong, the b option is rubbish, which leaves us with a.

That measn that all the natives of the southern hemisphere will now have to look out for drunk yodlers.

LOL the toilet cleaning block didn't help cos it made a fair bit of foamy cleaning bubbles which concealed the water. It was just splashing about really LOL!!!

"which seemed to be going in no particular direction," HAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! Well, THAT is hardly conclusive! LOL!!!

I do appreciate the effort, though. I remember when the Simpsons go to Australia, they had a super-expensive device in the US Embassy to make their toilets flow clockwise so it must be true.
Hey, JJ. Go flush a toilet for us!

Just for you Guido, I just went and flushed my toilet for investigative purposes. Amongst all the rushing water, which seemed to be going in no particular direction, I noted that it appeard to be swirling counter clockwise. I  can't be sure though.

I wanna go to NZ to see if the toilet water swirls in the opposite direction as is often reported.

For those of us who can't make it anytime soon, Becks, do give a flush and full report.

I do dislike not trusting people. For the most part I do. I have met some great people here and would love to meet them at some point in the future. I met up with Guid at a JP concert and we great time, and I got to see Nashville from a "local's" point of view. It was a very enjoyable experience. Except the Pick incident. LOL

I do feel that the world has become much more cautious since the day of the "milk carton kids" That's about the time things started getting more untrustworthy.
It's sad our children are not allowed to grow up the way we did. If they knew how much freedom had been stripped from them they would probably be pretty mad about it. But, we can't trust to dumb luck all will go well anymore, because we no longer live in that cocoon of the leave it to Beaver type neighborhood, we all thought we grew up in. It was a lie then, but we didn't know any better.

Hmmmm..... that is a very interesting question HB. I think that with all the technology we have today, we hear about things almost instantly. I think just as many bad things happened to people years ago, we just didn't hear about it unless we lived nearby.

My personal philosophy is to trust my instincts about people. When we hire someone new, I know within minutes whether they will be good or not and I've never been wrong or surprised. I can tell right away if something is "off" about someone and I keep my guard up. I make sure that I know my kids friends and parents, so yes they can go over to their friends house. But I would never let them go over and play somewhere if I didn't know the family - better to have the friend come to my house until I meet the parents. I trust people unless I have some feeling that I shouldn't and when I get that feeling I trust it. Always better safe than sorry!

I've met 4 people on this board so far and they have all been FANTASTIC people that I am very proud to know. I hope to meet many more before Priest is through too. I'm hoping we can all get together for a show one day!!!

While that is horible, and I often fall into the camp of DTA I think that too much lost trust hurts us all too.

I know that I have met people from the internet (at some obscure site judaspriest.com).  I went to DF's house when I was in vegas and had a great time.  the guys I was with kidded me about getting killed by some internet psycho, but also kidded me about dating... I survived.  I have also met up with QT from this site, that was in a more public space, which makes good sense and it was great to meet her.  I would love to meet more people from this site, and think that I would do so, if I could and if reasonable precautions could be worked out (meet in a public area, etc)

I know that in general our lack of trust hurts people today.  2 examples would be, if you pass a broken down car on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere do people stop and help?  not many.  can your kids go to a friends house to play in the evening?  not often.

sad state of affairs that we are this way, and I wonder, is society more messed up these days, or do things that go badly get spread around more
[joedraper] Monday, November 15, 2010 12:33:33 AM
Wow! That is horific! Very true though that in this day and age we have to be super careful. If you're meeting someone online, make sure it's in a public place and preferably with someone with you. So sad that someone can do something so evil to a trusting, caring person Spa. I am sorry for your loss and the hurt you must be feeling. I will keep you in my prayers xxx

It is very sad. I by no means wish this post to go against the people I have met here (save one, and we all know who that is) but this is just a cautionary tale, a real one, about what can happen when you meet someone online. Like you said, they can say all the right things and be not what you would expect at all.
I'm very sorry for him. I know his last thoughts must have been full of confusion because he was such a trusting person. It haunts me; what he must have felt.

[spapad] Sunday, November 14, 2010 5:46:59 PM

God this place is quiet.

Speaking of quiet, I lost a school chum this past week. He was always kind, and I can not imagine him being the victim of violent crime.
Word to the wise, my friends, watch who you make friends with online. His murderer came from New Jersey. He came for a visit and my friend took him to the top of the mountain on October 16th, to show him the view from the overlook there. Last anyone saw of him was at the Wendy's in Bluefield VA, earlier that day. Being that I knew him, I can only assume he took his visiting friend to see the beautiful overlook and was trying to entertain his internet friend.
He was found on October 30 in an old metal storage building which used to be a store many years ago. He had been strangled. The person that found him was a young boy, who only went into the shed to check on things at his grandfather's bequest.  So many lives shattered, so much pain involved all because we all are too willing to trust someone, in letters.
I'm a member of the untrust group these days. Measures will always be taken to ensure the safety of myself and loved ones from this kind of event.

[Head banger] Sunday, November 14, 2010 10:11:19 AM
we are sort of unique.  the union came in about 20 years ago, mostly younger workers then.  now most of the workforce is over 65, and most of those are semi retired former managers from other industrys.  put that with the fact that we are by a long shot the most conservative, least unionized province in canada, and the fact that in the last negotiation the company offered an increase of 17% where the union asked for 10 (couldnt hire then, now that raise is going to cause issues if we ever get to discuss economics).  if any of the employees actualy decided to take interest in the effort to decertify I am sure it would be a quick vote.  problem is, they have golf to go to and such.
