'don't know how she does it, Necro?! Each year it takes every ounce of motivation I can muster to get in the spirit of the season, living in this steambath that is Corpus Christi - lol - last year I think I started wearing my ChristmasMice earrings right after Halloween just to remind me!  Our temp is the same as yours ... for now, projected high is 92F

What a cool meteor shower!! Really spectacular!! Even though the city had some moderate light pollution, I was able to spot a big meteor every ten minutes from the same dark spot in the park where I made my watch yesterday (the spot with the least light). The first meteor I saw came out at around 10:20 p.m. It was gigantic!!! It had a large, beautiful white tail, and it disappeared as quickly as it showed up. Truly a sight to behold.

Most of the meteors I observed originated from the Northeast, and flew to the Southwest. The path of the meteor varied (NE to SW, or directly NW to SE, etc) but they all came from the north to the south. I had to move to different places, though...the sprinklers came on and one of them almost wet me. Either way, the meteors kept going. Overall, it was very cool!!! Can't wait for the next meteor shower!!!!

LOL that certainly would make the drive less boring. I did see a meteor/comet/whatever at hockey practice a few weeks ago, I must have looked a right goober standing there staring, literally, in to space, LOL!

De nada!!

So the meteors reveal themselves, eh? Cool!!

It's only 8 pm here, but it's looking to be a nice moonless night here as well. Hopefully the meteor shower still has enough steam to give California a good show. Glad you liked the spectacle!

Now, off I go to search for those shooting stars. I'll be back.

Wow! Tonight was certainly the meteor shower night! Saw some 5-6 really good ones! Started directly overhead N to S at the beginning of the dogwalk and down to 45 degrees (still N/W - S/W) by the end. No moon, very clear skies with little to no light contamination. Last one burned out with a big yellow fireball leaving a white streak in its wake. KEWL!! (10pm central, FYI).

Happy searching all who care and thanks again for keeping me informed, Vail.

According to this article, your best bet will be to look to the Northeast for those "shooting stars".

Saw a really great meteor shower many years ago. Me and a friend laid back on the hood of my 84 Dodge Colt and used the windsheild as a recliner accent, and watched meteors from the same shower you speak of until 5:00 am. I had to be at work at 7:00 am and was sound asleep in a chair by 8:30 am! Good thing you didn't get fired for things like that back then! LOL

So East, eh? I should have been looking East? Fine tip. I think I'll wait until dark before walking the hounds tonight.

That sucks. I didn't get much luck, either. Got outside at around 12:15 a.m. and went to the darkest place I can find. The moon and the haze from nearby wildfires made it difficult to see anything to the East. Had to go back home at around 12:45 since I had to get up early for work.

The meteor shower will happen again tonight. I'll give it one more chance to impress me.

[guidogodoy] Wednesday, August 12, 2009 1:39:50 AM
Ok, end of the second and final time at 1:40am. The moon is really bright and I saw a firefly that got me all animated for a minute. That count? I am now going to have to stare at the floor for an hour to get my spine back into shape.

So far, no deal. Pushing 1am here and Calvin and I have been outside looking up for 1/2 hour or so before he decided he'd had enough.

Fairly clear skies and I even walked to the end of my drive as there are too many trees on my property. Odd fog but no meteors. I'll have another go in a bit.
