I agree with you, there are plenty of dogs or cats out there who deserve decent homes and a good life. My father's first dog was rescued from a squatter camp. She was in terrible condition, and when we eventually had to put her down last year due to a brain tumour (she'd been with us a good 12 years) I felt happy that she'd had a better life than how she started.

We have two rabbits, who when the mood takes them, already dig up the garden, so Honey will only add to the "renovating" of the yard LMAO!! As for the chewing, that has already started. She loves toes, fingers and shoes, although she will grab the leg of your pants and hang on. She hates being on her own and will practically howl if she can't see anyone.  She chases the cats and the rabbits, none of whom are all that impressed with us at the moment LOL!!

Thanks everyone

Super cute !!  I also have a yellow lab, she is now 6 yrs old and 85 pounds. Prepare your self for all the chewing and digging!!  Cookie, that's my girls name, totally redesigned my backyard. She even chewed the wood latice on my patio! We couldn't keep enough toys and bones for her to chew on. Now she just digs every now and then and when she gets mad at us or feels ignored she will get a potted plant and turn it over then dig out just a little dirt. Just enough for us to notice and come out and scold her. Anyway... very lovely puppy and good luck with her!!

no, not a plague.  not sure, think they wanted to make sure they were not, or just keeping them away from farms.  it is probably beter than random poison, but there are all kinds of other things we could try to kill off.  dunno for sure.

You mean you pay people to kill the little buggers as they cross the line? How amazingly inept of government! Jesus Christ!, just put out rat bait on the border! Poor little rats! To be public enemey number one on border security is just plain pathetic! I feel sorry for them as I don't think they ever did anything to deserve that amount of control. Were they a plague at one time?????

Alberta has no wild rats.  there are boarder patrol teams that go around hunting them.  they can survive the cold fine, I believe they are around in alaska, and every other province and teritory, but not here.

HB, you mean to tell me Cananda doesn't even have wild rats? I mean of all rats that would be the one to not be missed, but I was just wondering? Is it too cold for them to survive the winters there?

Joe, getting your older rat a little rat friend may keep them "younger" for a little while, and give the dear something to fuss over?  I know older dogs get a youthful kick out of having younger dog around.

Thanks guys...still feeling sad but Robin is still alive and sleeping in her little house now lol. She looks lonely but it is cruel to buy a baby rat and put it in with her.. too  much age difference.
Spa, they are incredibly social and very loving pets. Over the years I've learnt to sort of judge when they need to pee or poop and have gotten pretty good at putting them down just before they need to go. I found that hamsters and mice are a lot less 'toilet trainable' than rats. They are so intelligent that they even get to know their names and respond to them so that is also one of the reasons it affects me so much when I loose one.

I absolutely love rats. They are very sweet creatures. If you could just cure the incontinence factor with them they would be perfect! They are very social and love to be held.

Woke up to a sad news this morning... one of our rats died during the night. I get so attatched to them and they don't have the longest life span to start with. She was around 2 years old and seemed in good health so it's a mystery to me. Her friend looks fine but I feel so sad for her bieng alone..
R.I.P. Oprah ratt xxx

Awwww...really sorry to hear that, Becks. I recently had Calvin's teeth done. I guess I just didn't understand the procedure. I was amazed at how long it took and how he had to be on antibiotics (?) for a week after the cleaning. I just assumed it was like power-brushing or something.

Sad news. Really makes one wonder if it was worth the risk. RIP, Brandy.

My mum just rang, my cat Brandy (who lived with mum since my sister and I went to university etc) died this morning  she had her teeth done last week (a few pulled, as older cats have done). She never fully recovered and got dehydrated and had to go to the vets for fluids and ABs and died this morning. RIP Brandy

Sheppard/Husky would make a very intelligent dog. I don't know what it is about retrievers, if you don't train them (give them a Job)  they stay eternal children, and are not the brightest dog. Their love makes up for it though.
My current dog is not the smartest in the world. She was a recue dog and she really needed rescuing. She was so thin when I brought her home every bone showed and at her knee high hieght, I could pick her up and carry her like a baby.  She's not a helpful dog, she does not get the idea of frisbee, and only likes her ball that talks, but she is very loving and that is her saving grace.

The wife and I own a cat. Probably the most behaved cat I've ever seen.
Number one is that he's housebroken. We've had him around 6 years and
he's only shit twice in the house. Both times we left him inside too long
while we were at work. He never claws anything. No marks on the woodwork
except on rails going upstairs. We throw string through them, he likes to play
like that. That makes it our fault. I'm trying to think of something bad he does
and can't come up with anything. If he has a fault it would be that he'll wake
the wife in the early morning wanting food or to go outside. It's her he's waking
so that's not a problem either.(LOL)
Hate cats if you must but I have a good one. Peace!
[Metalrulez] Saturday, February 20, 2010 3:22:17 PM
We have 2 dogs. Sadie a German shepard Husky mix and Elsie a Golden Retriver. Sadie is smart as hell and picks up things fast. Elsie is like.....I can not say it since it is not politicaly correct but lets say she would ride the short bus a great dog but not too bright.
[guidogodoy] Saturday, February 20, 2010 3:17:38 PM
Kiko laid yet another egg last night. I am really worried as this is a recent activity since Fred came into the house. Egg binding, lack of calcium, laying more.

Sheesh....
[spapad] Thursday, February 18, 2010 7:09:30 PM
Makes me glad I just have dogs for pets.  But then again, I could not breath around cats. They do messed up stuff though as all my friends who have had cats over the years say they puke or crap right in front of the door if the owner does not come home in the proper time frame, etc...          Vengfull little critters. lol

Lol that's so true. The cat always gets the upper hand. I got this old guy before we were ever going to have kids and that is why he gets away with the things he does. He's 11 years old now so entering the senior years of his life and almost daily he is getting a new irritating habit yet we still put up with him?

Yeah, the Princess has TWO friggin cats. Arrrrgggghhh... I can't stand those diabolical beasts! Always clawing on things and getting into stuff, jumping up in my lap when I am trying to watch television. She loves them and I am certain that, given an ultimatum, I would be the one sent packing! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not really  that I do not "like" animals so much as my upbringing. We NEVER had an animal INSIDE the house. Animals were kept OUTSIDE. Period. I have been trying to get used to having her cats in the house for almost ten years and I still have a problem with it but....well, I just live here.

My cat is seriously trying to piss me off. He pukes behind my drums or behind my  monitor pretty much daily now and this morning I put my laptop on my desk, went out for a ride and when I got back in Craig asked me if I left my laptop face down on the band room floor.. Uh.. no but there was a grumpy old fart sleepiing peacefully on the desk where my laptop was left.

He is so lucky it is still working! That cat has issues I tell you!
