Good lord!! You know, that is a common reaction to financial trouble. Economy is bad so what do they do? Aquire MORE debt!! You cannot solve money problems by adding more debt! That increases the problem. It's like adding MORE cancer cells to a cancer patient!! Typical reaction, though.

Loads of ppl here are taking out loans.. cos of the economy = the interest rate is bloody 150%
[Deep Freeze] Wednesday, March 18, 2009 8:00:25 AM
Very wise, my friend. You know, so many people think they understand interest but do not. When people  in this country buy a house, they are always worried about "rate"....RATE RATE RATE. Amazing. Rate is merely a payment amount!  Seriously. What they need to be concerned with is total cost, just as you mentioned. What will it cost me in full? If you go to buy a car, try asking the sales guy what the price of the car is, IN FULL. All they do is sell you a payment. They do not want you to know what the total cost is!! THAT is how interest really works.

I just keep it in my wallet these days...don't trust anyone..
[_strat_] Wednesday, March 18, 2009 7:54:19 AM

Yup. And I usualy get a percent or two of discount if I pay in cash. Just for the big stuff, tho, like when I bought the guitar amp.

Frankly, I know what is a "limit" and I get "interest", but... I just choose the simplest way. I know how much I have = I know how much I can spend. Not the stuff when "I have 500€, but I can spend 700, and pay the difference later". Just complications. Expensive ones too.

That's a great point strat. Knowing what you are spending. People use credit, pay the monthly payments and get buried by interest. Worse yet, MOST people do NOT truly understand interest and that is a HUGE problem.

I dont use any money-related cards either. No credit cards, and even tho I have my bank card (or whatever its called - the one you stick in the ATM machine), I dont pay with it either. My reason is just that... I like cash. Really, with cards I never have a feeling on how much Im spending that I have with coins and banknotes.

'Morning, gents. Interesting conversation. I do not use credit cards, either. As a matter of fact, I am constantly crusading against them. In this country, credit is the number one obstacle towards wealth. You simply cannnot build true wealth when you are in debt. Working for a bank, I have seen some horrible mistakes with credit.  I have a car payment but only because I did not want to spend all the cash at once. Same with the house. But I do not carry even ONE credit card and neither does the Princess. We use debit or pay cash. Period.

I hear ya about the money thing.   My bank doesn't charge me squat for a statement, but child support is a total friggin' bitch.

Money problems are one thing i never seem to shake...being homeless always works out...in the end...and as for women....dont get me started.. - i don't have credit cards or use a bank anymore - i got so pissed at em for charging me £12 a month to send a letter telling me my account balance...sod that!

Sounds great!!  Don't overwhelm yourself by thinking you have to get everything at once, either...take your time and see what's out there...a little 'shopping around'  goes a long way...have family and friends keep an 'eye' out for things...this is the time of year ppl start 'spring cleaning' which means there will be plenty of 'garage sales' popping up...and you could get a lot of good stuff on the cheap that way...just an idea...

Still moving and buying stuff Ron.   Any furniture my ex-wife and I accumulated together I let her keep when I moved out last year, and my brother has only his bedroom set.   Got a slightly abused sofa and reclining love seat from our parents, plus...my dad is giving us his 5 yr old 42" plasma screen!   Yes, it still works quite well and it'll last the year without issue.  I still have to get a tv stand, dvd/vcr combo player and router plus a couple pieces of bedroom furniture.   Oooofa!

Freeze - Apparently Gordon Ramsay (said 'limey' chef, lol) never swears in real life! I find that hard to believe considering how often he drops the F bomb LOL!
I prefer British comedy shows, never liked Seinfeld at all LOL or Friends (which some of my friends LOVED). I like Little Britain (the original), Mr Bean, Last of the Summer Wine, Vicar of Dibley, Keeping up Appearances, all those shows lol.
MG! OMG that sounds like so much fun! It makes me wish I could meet up with other JP fans like that, I'm the only one I know who is this passionate about Priest I'm so far away from everyone else LOL.

Are you kidding??    A lotta kids today barely even crack a SMILE at shit we would think to be hysterical....slapstick ain't dead....the sense of humor in people is what has taken a landslide, if anything.     I mean...take a more modern day cartoon like   "The Fairly Oddparents,"  for example.     I don't know what it is, but that show has its moments sometimes where I'm bustin' out loud laughing....my daughters would just sit there...or look at me like....'...okay, that was funny...how?'

Now, I know cartoons are fashioned and created by adults.     And I know an adult sense of humor can go over a kid's head most times...but even things THEY should've been giggling like a fiend about...NOTHING....    I know what you're thinking..."Well..Justin, it was probably early in the morning...give 'em a break..."   for some of what they'd watch, this may be true...but it'd be even like this LATER in the day sometimes!!!       I dunno...maybe humor itself has gotten so subjective,  they probably saw  "The Fairly Oddparents"  as mere  'room filler,'  rather than something to actually be entertaining.

I will say, however...they do have their own sense of humor, and they do know how to use it.     And as they mature, I know it'll sharpen and get more honed as they go...

Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk..... HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It amazes me how funny that actually was back then. Kids watch it today and just don't "get" it. Slapstick is truly dead.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. They are hillarious for the most part, although sometimes they can just be lame. Cheap photoshopery + a local legend = a ghost show. You cant even get a good scare out of watching TV!! The scariest thing there is is the fucking Eurovision!

I love M*A*S*H. GREAT show. I agree with strat about Brit shows. They are hilarious. These days I like to watch the so-called paranormal "reality" shows. It really cracks me up that people believe this sh@#.....HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, forgot about that one, wasnt bad either.

King of Queens is okay.   The best sitcom ever was M.A.S.H. imo.   Alan Alda and Jamie Farr were incredibly funny!

The King of Queens? Never heard about that one before. Fraiser and Third rock from the sun, yeah, and theyre both good. But that aside, when it comes to sitcoms, nobody beats the Brits. Really, loads and loads of them. Black Adder (starring young Hugh Laurie - if you think House is funny, you aint seen nothing yet), You rang, milord?, Allo,Allo... Really great stuff. Shame they dont play them so often as they used to.

Yeah, MWC is good. I like The King of Queens. It is marginally funny. Always try to catch the news at 5 while eating supper. I use the DVR a lot these days. I just cannot stay up very late at  night so I record a lot of shows that I like so I can watch at these ungodly hours of the morning!!!

Me too - Discovery, National Geographic, and the evening news. Sometimes a good movie, but that is rare enough.

The only exception is the Great Al Bundy - our national TV just recently dug out that show from their archives, and are playing all episodes from the first on!

Well, I really can't stand MOST of what is offered on television. I try to stick to Discovery Channel and occasionally the Sci Fi channel (when I need something stupid) but network TV is simply brutal.
[Return_of_Darth_Painkiller_0870] Tuesday, March 17, 2009 7:17:52 AM
Hell no!   I can't sit through a minute of that show!   Besides, I rarely watch tv.   Mistique my butt!   He's a jackass!

did you see the one with the models?
btw, cool or not, he is a revered chef, and voted britains worst boss several years in a row, which adds to the mistique IMO.

Look up clips on youtube, if you want to know what the Brits are keeping away from you. Thats the greatest sitcom of all times.
