The sugar used is a confectionary sugar ( very fine) like you might see on a doughnut. It just cuts the sour taste a bit, and allows you to have more then a couple. If you've had this drink you know that the sour, while good in the begining turns your stomach sooner or later, well at least with me it does. As far as the amount, the more you us the less sour it will taste. 4-5 is all i can take, then i'm looking to move to something else. If you make it right with a good booze it does have a kick, lol. p.s., todays special is green apple martinis... another tart drink with some kick... Well, I'll give it a shot (pun intended) ... thanks for the tip VOM!
But, doesn't adding sugar kinda take away from the whole "sour"-thing? Whad'ya call it then?
Anyway, I kind of just discovered them and find them pretty refreshing if not loaded with booze. Never could get down with beer, and most coolers are packed with sugar which seems to give me more of a hangover than the two I may drink all at once!
Not being much of a drinker, I start off with really good intentions of wearing lampshades and leaping off speakers, but it all fizzles out after a drink or two and I usually need a nap ... well, that is, unless Priest is involved! Keep the Faith.

Well I'll tell you a story of whiskey and mystics and men
And about the believers, and how the whole thing began
First there were women and children obeying the moon
Then daylight brought wisdom and fever and sickness too soon
You can try to remind me instead of the other you can
You can help to insure that we all insecure our command
If you don't give a listen I won't try to tell your new hand
This is it can't you see that we all have our end in the band
And if all of the teachers and preachers of wealth were arraigned
We could see quite a future for me in the literal sands
And if all of the people could claim to inspect such regret
Well we'd have no forgiveness forgetfulness faithful remorse
So I tell you I tell you I tell you we must send away
We must try to find a new answer instead of a way
The Doors.
