The only guitars I remember from the Defenders era is the Hamers, can`t say I recall what the x-79 looked like. Got any pics?

With the blade`s on the X2n, definently no difference, the current flow will go the same way on any humbucker no matter it`s orientation, unless the afore mentioned phase is activated.
Even those Strat pu`s I talked about are not built for a specific otrientation for tone, the pole pieces are installed to follow the contour of the "arch" in the strings over the bridge, but it still changes the tone due to the spacing from pole piece to string when flipped.
All modern pu`s are wound by machine, so there`s no way possible to wind them for specific locations other than bridge or neck. And that`s usually accomplished by different strength magnets due to the different oscillation patterns of the strings between the two postions.

[K2M] Thursday, December 23, 2010 4:59:34 PM
Thank you. I was wondering about the location of the poles. I dont know if they are dedicated to specific strings. I had it flipped as a cosmetic mod. I was not trying to change the direction of the flow around the coils.  It is a  dmarzio DP102 X2N. a creme/ black. the guitar looked cool with the pickup fliped. but i wondered if the PUP was sounding off correctly. anyways i am going to flip it back.
[guitardude] Tuesday, December 21, 2010 8:54:05 PM
I`d like to add a bit to that there SDB, you mention flipping the poles, on a humucker you are right , no difference, on certain single coils, big difference, some single coils are setup to install with one end of the pickup under the wound strings, those are usually those that have the soild pole pieces in them, like the original Strat pu`s did, now you can flip those to change the tone slightly, Hendrix was the first to do this as he did not reverse his pickups and since he was a left hand player, well you know where I`m going.
Now,  you can reverse the current flow in just one of the coils of a humbucker, that is "phasing", usually accomplished by a switch that I`m sure you`ve probably seen many times,  will look like a coil tap switch.
This works by creating a resistance between the current flow of each coil, by disturbing this field, this is what creates that funky nasally midrange tone, also typically reduces the output of the pu in question.

Only real issue that may come up by just changing the orientation of a humbucker is the wires may not be long enough to reach into the control cavity. But that would be easy to remedy.

[SDBinNY] Tuesday, December 21, 2010 6:57:50 PM
Unless the coils are wound extremely differently, there should really be no major difference.. The only thing this really accomplishes is reversing the north/south poles of the magnets, and really should have no noticable effect on anything...

[K2M] Tuesday, December 21, 2010 5:22:28 PM
What happens when you flip a pick up 180 degrees. A bridge dmarzio humbuker. is the direction of the coils effected.

Awesome Collection. a lot of nice Gibsons.
[guidogodoy] Thursday, December 16, 2010 1:34:41 PM
Is that wild or what? I was floored. Imagine the same amt of guitars behind me as well. Then another entire floor above with his acoustics?!

Yeah, when a guy says "let me show you my electric FLOOR," he makes serious bank.

My buddy's house. I thought I had a problem. He has an acoustic room upstairs. When I said I didn't know much about them he shows me the basement!
The pic doesn't even come close. There were at least twenty behind me. FFS!

Yea, I noticed that it might put the bulk of the weight of the guitar in a small area on your leg, but maybe it works, just dunno since I`m not a V guy.

[Necroticist] Tuesday, November 23, 2010 4:16:20 AM
My next axe i guess u'd call 'strat style' - Kramer FR424CM - those 'buckers really roar (hotrails) - has 1 dual , 2 quad...hardtail. Pretty much does all i need. Nice of 'em to add coil-taps... & the neck is to die for...
[Necroticist] Tuesday, November 23, 2010 4:10:57 AM
That sounds almost as uncomfy as the X strap...lol
[Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by guitardude from Monday, November 22, 2010 8:40:06 PM)
[guitardude] Monday, November 22, 2010 8:40:06 PM
There is a "contraption" that can make the V easier to hold and play sitting down, can`t recall the name, but you stick some velcro on the lower wing of the V, and then this attachment sticks to it . It is flat against the guitar, but has an arch coming off at about a 45* angle to sit on your leg. I`ve seen them at Guitar Center .
[K2M] Monday, November 22, 2010 7:00:15 PM
I like sticking the V on the thigh. That is one of my favorite practicing posistions. I am a strat style man. i am probably too tall and skinny. the V doesnt fit.
[Necroticist] Monday, November 22, 2010 1:58:40 PM
I always had issues with shapes...mainly cos of the weight distribution...example = i love an SG...but u try holding one up...the neck wants to stage dive...as for a 'V'  - cant do em...standing up is good...but we all play sitting down at home, unless u stick it into ur thigh there's no way u can play it.  And don't mention the 'X' strap for the SG....so wrong...

I dont see Glenn Sporting the V.  KK Kills em with it.
[guitardude] Friday, November 19, 2010 7:44:40 PM
Guitar body shape is a big deal for many people. Some styles fit, some don`t. I`ve always been a strat style guy myself even though my current isn`t shaped that way (sort of anyway). The Peavey fits me ok, but I don`t know about it looking good on me, it has that slab of wood being held by a fatman look.

Does the V look good on you?
[guitardude] Sunday, November 14, 2010 9:16:12 AM
Actually , you could, but  use only a tiny amount. It will have the Kahler gliding buttery smooth!
The regular Mobil 1 is a hyper refined mineral oil, the EP version is still a true synthetic, and that`s what I am using.
Like I mentioned before, this is a debate that will last thru the ages!!!!  Even in a guitar thread !

I think the store was close to calling security.
[spapad] Saturday, November 06, 2010 6:14:33 PM
If I ever bought a guitar it would not be for myself as I have no musical talent whatsoever. Hell, I can't even dance! LOL  But if I were to purchase such a thing I would insist it be free of defect.

I don't think I'm that picky. If I see a small trinket that looks cool and doesn't hurt my wallet I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat. For something as big as an actual guitar, I'd do a thorough inspection. Is it scratched? Is it used? Is it heavy? Does it sound good? All that.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by spapad from Saturday, November 06, 2010 4:46:48 PM)

If you as picky as Guid, it would have taken you an hour to pick out which of said keychains was just "perfect". But, on his behalf, some of them were just bent and in not so great shape. He worked hard for that one, including many "side by side" comparisons and asking of opinion on said things.

Hey everybody, here`s a great CD I recomend to all guitar players(or anyone really)
George Lynch...Orchestral Mayhem
It`s fairly new, and blend of Lynch with some Beethoven, Mozar tand Rossini. Very different, but I can`t seem to get enough of this thing!

Let him keep it, he will pick it back up later. It happens more often than you think.. Guitar Hero has created a huge used cheap axe market, watch Craig's List in mid to late February and see what I mean.. Oil it up, and put it in the closet for a while.. Trust me...

I told him you were interested, and he said he would think about it, which means he probably will. Signed him up for the fall baseball league here, he`s looking at a new bat.

Shame on you Guid, jumping in like a vulture at the first sign of a child's indiference.  LOL

I`ll ask him, but he did say that he wanted to keep it, though I don`t know why, but can always hope that this is just a faze and he`ll pick it back up. I`ll let you know either way.

To each his own, I guess. Sad, as you say.

That said, I'll make an offer on the mini V.

Damn it all to hell!!! My oldest has informed that he no longer wishes to play guitar(at all), his teacher said he showed good promise, if he would have just practiced more. It is a sad day in this house today, I`m so bummed!!
Well, there`s always my youngest that I could hope to influence.

Well, my boys recital went off today, wasn`t to bad. But there was so many people there it was stifling(Texas outdoors) I could ony see his guitar from behind the music stand and I couldn`t get up to move around due to all the people there.
One highlight was two brothers (drums and guitar) that played a good version of "Highway to Hell"

Well, my oldest has his first show(recital) in June with some other kids taking various instument lesson`s at this shop. He jumped at the chance to do it, but I`m curious what he`ll do, he`s still making good progress, but also still has a long road ahead of him.   Either way, I`ll be proud as hell of him!
