No no non onononono you don't get it.

GNR is WAYYYY bigger then STP or Velvet Revolver.

PRiest is WAAYYYYYYYY bigger then Fight or Halford.

Iron Maiden isss WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY bigger then Bruce Dickinson.

Black Sabbath is WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY bigger then Ozzy or Dio.

Dave Mustaine doesn't play Metallica songs does he? No. Just because he wrote a few doesn't mean he should play them with his band, and he doesn't.

They do NOT play other peoples songs and why should they? They have an extremely large back catelogue and it makes no sense to be a band of that stature and play other peoples songs. One off covers like Johnny B. Goode are one thing, bringing another artists songs in as a permentant part of the set is another.

Metallica is an exception but when you think about it, those covers they play every night like Am I Evil? have almost become METALLICA songs because there almost expected at there shows now.

I agree. The studio albums from the 70s always lacked intensity when I listened to them. This album makes up for all the lack of intensity on them. I youtubed it thoroughly and found it very enjoyable. And yes, I will buy it at first opportunity.

I agree that it would be cool to hear it, but we wont.  they do have a huge back catalog, 13 albums without ripper.  which is a shame to say they ignore the era, but they do.

What!!! You haven't got Unleashed In The East? Of every member on this site you are the one who is the most interested in Priests setlist and debating which songs would make a great live show etc. I am flabbergasted that you don't have Unleashed. What are you waiting for? Go out and get it today!

What I personally find interesting is that A Touch Of Evil Live has also made me consider buying Unleashed In The East. So I'll savour it up and buy them simultaneously, first listen to the classic 70's Unleashed In The East and then turn the heat up heavier and meaner with A Touch Of Evil Live. Can't wait

I completely agree on this subject. I feel that they shouldn't play stuff from Halfords solo career as much as i asolutely love and i mean love the music, it is awesome and so is his work with Fight. It just aint JP and they already play covers you know, The Green Manalishi and Diamonds and Rust etc. Halford's solo career is more modern Heavy Metal and wouldn't fit in with Priests classic sound. Halford did say in an interview that he would like to sing Ripper era stuff but as much as i hate to agree on this i don't think he will. He said it's because they have such an extensive back catalogue that they struggle to think of songs to put in to a setlist, but personally i think its cause most of the fans aren't interested which is a dissapointment. They should do Cathedral Spires that would be such a concert closer (that trully was a masterpiece from the Ripper era) anyone who doesn't like that song based on Ripper singing it is a moron, it is a phenominal song. It's nothing Halford could't handle either. I have come across fans who have never listened to Jugulator or Demolition because it's 'not Judas Priest', well that is bullshit. 4 of the definitive members are still there and Glenn/ KK did most of the song writing as usual, Ripper just sang and did a pretty damn decent job. I say they should put this one song in and see the reaction they get, a lot of Ripper era fans would tear the roof off the place and i for one would be joining them.

but... all those bands are playing stuff from when the band that made them famous.  the bon jovi thing, dunno, honestly I never knew they were different groups so to speak.

personaly I like Fight, and Halford, but I want to hear stuff that is JP.   ripper era stuff would be good

Actually playing other artist's songs happens all the time...  Van Halen played Sammy Hagar songs, Bon Jovi (the band ) play jon Bon Jovi's solo stuff(blaze of glory) in concert, Ozzy on his solo tours always plays his Black Sabbath stuff with his solo work, Velvet Revolver play GnR and STP songs w/their own...... and on and on ....Many big name bands play other bands songs all the time......... so why would it be wierd for Halford to play his solo stuff with JP??  JP played Chuck Berry's Johnny B Goode......and it sounded great... Playing other artists songs happens all the time.

Rob's solo stuff would sound awesome with KK/Glen playing it and add another demension to their shows....

IMO  Jug/Dem cds (w/eception of 2-3 songs) weren't good compared to Halford's stuff.........

I don't see the problem with Rob and Priest playing Ripper era PRIEST songs. Those songs are a major part of there career and there's no need to ignore them. Just play the good ones haha.

Look at Iron Maiden. They still play Paul and Blaze era songs and they sound amazing with Bruce singing. Blaze's era is argueable.. terrible... but they only play the good ones and they sound LIGHTYEARS better with Bruce singing them. Rob singing the Ripper era songs would be no problem. Songs like Jugulator, Cathedral Spires especially, those would be good.

But as for Priest playing Halford songs... that makes no sense man. Iron Maiden don't do Bruce solo stuff. Black Sabbath doesn't do Dio or Ozzy stuff, etc. I'm not sure if anyone is gonna get to hear those Halford songs live again. Rob's already talking about the next Priest album and said when he retires he wants to be with Priest.

No matter what Rob may have said he's never going to sing Ripper era music and why should he? If anything Rob and Judas priest would get more miles and cd sales from Rob singing his music from "Halford". Those songs are much better and I'm surprised that JP and Rob haven't introduced those in a Priest concerts because it would make for a better show as well as better live cd.
J
PS. With regards to another member's coments about JP lieing about what songs they have or have not played live counting the Ripper era. I don't think it's their intention to "lie". I think they're only speaking of songs they have played live since they've been back together as an original band. As for the 30th aniversary of British Steel? Well I guess you could say that thecnically they may have started the writing sessions in '79 then release in '80.....bottomline....JP needed a gimik to promote a summer show and B.S. was far more successful and well received than Hell Bent for Leather!

Then you/we have to wait for a long, long time (possible 'til your/our next life) 'Cause never in his career Rob are singing songs from the Ripper era.

Yeah, the whole thing is really much ado about nothing, though. I mean, it is nothing new for a big name group to have a line up change and controversy to follow, is it?  Look at the Misfits when Danzig left.  Always going to be sides chosen and debate inspired.

I would have expected the remaining members of Priest to act as they did and say exactly what they did. Afterall, what would you want them to say..??.."We are making a BIG mistake and this guy is just so-so??".... Of course they are going to support him and attempt to deflect the controversy from losing Rob.  It is only natural. They wanted to remain viable as an act!

I think Tim Ownes is a great guy. I think he is a great singer. I also still say that the music Priest made during those times was NOT "classic' Priest. It was harder, edgier and more "modern". It lacked the melodic signature that I have come to expect from a classic Priest song.  Does not mean it was "bad" music, just not the same for me.
