I completely agree on this subject. I feel that they shouldn't play stuff from Halfords solo career as much as i asolutely love and i mean love the music, it is awesome and so is his work with Fight. It just aint JP and they already play covers you know, The Green Manalishi and Diamonds and Rust etc. Halford's solo career is more modern Heavy Metal and wouldn't fit in with Priests classic sound. Halford did say in an interview that he would like to sing Ripper era stuff but as much as i hate to agree on this i don't think he will. He said it's because they have such an extensive back catalogue that they struggle to think of songs to put in to a setlist, but personally i think its cause most of the fans aren't interested which is a dissapointment. They should do Cathedral Spires that would be such a concert closer (that trully was a masterpiece from the Ripper era) anyone who doesn't like that song based on Ripper singing it is a moron, it is a phenominal song. It's nothing Halford could't handle either. I have come across fans who have never listened to Jugulator or Demolition because it's 'not Judas Priest', well that is bullshit. 4 of the definitive members are still there and Glenn/ KK did most of the song writing as usual, Ripper just sang and did a pretty damn decent job. I say they should put this one song in and see the reaction they get, a lot of Ripper era fans would tear the roof off the place and i for one would be joining them. Actually playing other artist's songs happens all the time... Van Halen played Sammy Hagar songs, Bon Jovi (the band ) play jon Bon Jovi's solo stuff(blaze of glory) in concert, Ozzy on his solo tours always plays his Black Sabbath stuff with his solo work, Velvet Revolver play GnR and STP songs w/their own...... and on and on ....Many big name bands play other bands songs all the time......... so why would it be wierd for Halford to play his solo stuff with JP?? JP played Chuck Berry's Johnny B Goode......and it sounded great... Playing other artists songs happens all the time.
Rob's solo stuff would sound awesome with KK/Glen playing it and add another demension to their shows....
IMO Jug/Dem cds (w/eception of 2-3 songs) weren't good compared to Halford's stuff......... Edited at: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 7:28:41 PM
