I checked out Take Back The Horns. It's a crackup. Dee Snider blames Bon Jovi for the misappropriation of the horns sign among other things.

They aren't rescheduling these dates- they're being refunded and everything. I'm so cross right now- not at Dio and co- its not his fault, just at the world in general for denying this poor gig-starved metalhead the chance to see one of the greatest metal frontmen ever!

Hope he gets well soon though.

Dio Cancels European Tour - Hospitalized

DIO — the band fronted by legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) — has cancelled its previously announced European tour after Ronnie was taken ill. "Ronnie has been hospitalized and we are waiting for further news," the singer's wife/manager Wendy Dio told BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

DIO's lineup for the European tour was supposed to include WHITESNAKE/ex-DIO axeman Doug Aldrich due to the fact that the band's regular guitarist, Craig Goldy, had prior touring commitments with BUDGIE in Australia.

Heavy Metal Landmark Destroyed
Reunion Arena in Dallas Texas  was brought to the ground today by demolition teams to make way for progress.
Reunion Arena was the site where Judas Priest filmed the concert on the "Fuel for Life" Tour. Motley Crue also had a brief segment of the arena at the beginning of their "Home Sweet Home" video.
Reunion Arena was the choice arena for all touring bands while heavy metal reigned supreme. I personally have many fond memories there and I must admit that it saddened me to see the news footage of it coming down this evening.
The lights , sounds and atmosphere of Reunion really helped to make each show a little bit more special, now we have  the "American Airlines Center" just a few minutes down the freeway for the big shows that come thru town. But at the AAC, the acoustics are horrible and the term "nosebleed section" takes on a whole new meaning as all of the balcony seats are this way.
So, to Reunion Arena, Goodbye Old Friend, it was a hell of a lot of fun. Thanks for the memories.

Take Back The Horns!

Motivated by what he calls the "systematic abuse" of the metal horns, heavy metal icon and frontman for the legendary band TWISTED SISTER, Dee Snider has launched a web site dedicated to the reclamation of our iconic heavy metal symbol, TakeBackTheHorns.com.

"The rampant misuse and overuse of the metal horns is an insult to true fans of the music form it represents," says Dee, "They were never intended to be thrown by members of the hip hop, country and pop communities. We fought long and hard for the music we love to be recognized. They have no right to use our sign!" ??

While absolutely recognizing the humor in the situation, TakeBackTheHorns.com is dedicated to not only raise awareness of this abuse, but the site has been designed to inform and educate the reader on the history and proper use of the metal horns. Dee Snider hopes it will unify the massive, heavy metal community in the fight to stop the metal horns' further exploitation and degradation. Says Dee, "I appreciate the appeal of throwing the horns and even acknowledge that its overuse shows just how far the acceptance of heavy metal has come as a music form. But when little Johnny throws the horns to his mom because he's successfully made a number two, things have gone way too far."

TakeBackTheHorns.com also contains a section for visitors to post photos of abusers of the horns and an interactive "Metal or Not" rating system to help define and decide the proper usage of the iconic symbol. ??

Dee goes on to say, "In the '80s, I went to Washington, D.C. to defend heavy metal and fight censorship. Now it's time for me to defend the music I love again and fight a very different enemy. I need headbangers the world over to join me in this important fight. Let's say to the purveyors of other music forms, the usurpers of our mark...get your own damn sign bee-otch! Let's take back the horns...dot com!"

Ronnie James Dio Discusses Heaven & Hell's Future

Robert Gray of Ultimate-Guitar.com recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, DIO). A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: When you reunited with Tony [Iommi] and Geezer [Butler], were you worried that a repeat of the "Dehumanizer" situation would occur?

Dio: No, no. We were very, very smart about the way we dealt with things, and I think we learnt lessons from what had happened to us before, with the two break ups before that. I think it's a pretty good indication that we want to play in a band together, and that it's something we do a lot, because we keep getting back together again. But yeah, I think we took it really slowly. We didn't make plans to do something that we couldn't deliver, either to ourselves, or to someone we'd promised to do something, say a tour or whatever. We didn't make these long term plans, and that allowed a lot of mistakes not to happen. Again, we've all grown up a lot. We really appreciate each other more than we ever did before, and we were always good friends — that was never a problem. Contrary to what people may believe, we never had arguments. In fact, I don't remember ever having an argument. Of course, nothing physical ever happened, so it seems really odd that we did break up that many times. I guess a lot of it was because of some political things that were going on, and again, we were younger, and did things that we shouldn't have done. So yeah, there's always that thought in the back of your mind, if this could happen again, and if this will be another "Dehumanizer" situation. We're not allowing that to happen though; we have communication now, we talk, and we really, really spend a lot of time together, which was something we didn't do before. Because of all the lessons that we learnt from the past, I don't worry about that ever happening. If it did happen, I think we're confident enough in the things that we did in the past, and the things that we can still do without each other, so it wouldn't be the end of the world. But we really, genuinely enjoy making music together, and being around each other, so I don't see that happening. We're too cautious about it now.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: How does the chemistry within the DIO band differ to the chemistry within HEAVEN & HELL?

Dio: Well, I think one of the differences is that I'm a lot more in control of my own situation because it is the DIO band, and I can make a lot of decisions that are mine and mine alone. With SABBATH, we're very democratic. We don't do things behind each others' backs, and unless we all agree to it, it doesn't happen. That sometimes can make life a little bit more difficult if I don't agree with the decision of the other two, but that's the way we've set it up, so that's the way it works. So far, I've not seen any problems with that. So really, it's the difference between having a little bit more of a — certainly not a dictatorship, but let's put it that way anyway — a little bit more of a dictatorship, and a whole lot more democracy in SABBATH. That's really the difference in the chemistry. As far as the people go, we are all different people. Tony and Geezer have done this for such a long time, and I've known them for such a long time, with all the things we've done together. We share different experiences in the DIO band, and life is made of all those experiences. Our experiences in the DIO band bring us close together, with the things we have done, and the things we're about to do. All the things we've done in SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, whatever we're gonna call it, those are different experiences, but yet they're all enjoyable ones. As far as chemistry goes, there's no lack of chemistry on either side. It's just as I said before; it's more my decision with the DIO band, and much more democratic the other way.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: You also recorded some voice work for "Brütal Legend", but unfortunately those parts weren't used. What are your thoughts on that?

Dio: I was looking forward to seeing the finale, and it was very interesting to do. We went to a place called Skywalker Ranch, which is where George Lucas' original studio was. A brilliant place, with memorabilia everywhere. There was a great atmosphere, and I enjoyed doing it, but at the end of the day, it just didn't work out. Perhaps my voice characterization wasn't what they were looking for. It's not what I do, truthfully. They asked, and I thought it was interesting to be a part of, but at the end of the day, if it wasn't right, then it wasn't right. At the end of the day, I don't harbour any bad feelings about that at all. It doesn't matter to me.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: Some have added two and two together, and have come up with five, alleging that your parts weren't used because Ozzy (Osbourne) contributed to "Brütal Legend", and supposedly didn't want you to be a part of the project. What are your thoughts on that rumor?

Dio: I've heard that rumor, and people do put two and two together, or sometimes put two and two together and it equals five, so perhaps they're wrong about that. I don't accuse anyone unless I know exactly what's going on. I don't know if that's the case. It certainly seems coincidental, I must admit. It does. I'm not gonna throw the blame to anyone, though. Perhaps that wasn't the reason, and perhaps it wasn't because Ozzy was a part of it. Again, it just doesn't bother me at all. I'm very thick-skinned when it comes to that, and I don't really care if they did that. If someone did do that, then I think it just shows small-mindedness, but I'm not gonna accuse anyone till I know what's going on.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: Do you see yourself recording a new HEAVEN & HELL album?

Dio: Yeah. I think so — I do think so. I think we'll probably tour a little bit first in the interim time. Of course, we're dealing with Tony's hand at the moment too. We would've been touring more with HEAVEN & HELL, and probably wouldn't even have organized this DIO tour, if it hadn't been for the fact that Tony has tendon problems in his hand, and had to be operated on. That gave me the time to do this that we're talking about now, which is the tour, and working more on "Magica". At the moment, we're waiting to see how Tony's hand is going to recuperate. We have no plans to break this up. I think we're all excited about doing another album at some point. I don't think we want to rush into it right now, but perhaps during this time off, between Tony's recovery and us getting back together with HEAVEN & HELL, we'll be able to get together and write some more songs. We can do that, certainly. To answer your question, yeah, I think we will.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: How does the future of the DIO band look?

Dio: I think it looks really good. Once again, as I said before, there are people in this band who really, really want to be in this band, and who really love the music that we make. They love the majesty of it, the bigness of it, sometimes the heaviness of it, and just all the great songs that have been done from year to year. Those songs never die; they're fun for me to play after all these years, and they're certainly fun for Rudy [Sarzo] and Simon [Wright] and Craig [Goldy] to play, and they do such a wonderful job of it. It has a great future, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not trying to take away from what I'll be doing with HEAVEN & HELL, because once I apply myself to HEAVEN & HELL, that's the only thing I'll focus on. As you suggested earlier though, in the back of my mind there's always that thought about the DIO band, because again, it's been such a big part of my life. It's given me such great songs to be able to play, and so many people who have made their way to this band as fans, and as friends. It's something that's never going to die, not in my mind, and it's something that I'll carry on and do.

Well I DO like the idea of releasing different concerts on the DVDs.

Europe has the France concert.

Mexico has the Mexican one.

Canada has the Canadian one.

And each DVD has like 3 shows on it.

So we're getting 9 Metallica performances on DVD next year I guess.

Back in the day when Metallica were good and releasing classic album after classic album they refused to do vids as they deemed it to be selling out. Nowadays when they're releasing a bunch of shit every half decade they are flogging it for all it's worth. It's sickening. Still can't get over the fact that they had fucking Lou Reed on stage with them at the RnR hall of fame thing. Wankers. Trujillo should get back together with Mike Muir and Rocky George and stop hanging round with those hypocrites.

Official Metallica.com footage from the Mexico City concerts can be viewed below.

METALLICA has issued several DVDs in the past, including "Cliff 'Em All", "Cunning Stunts", "S&M With The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra" and "A Year And A Half".

According to MetOnTour.com, which is described as "your FREE virtual backstage pass to every METALLICA show," METALLICA will release a new DVD featuring footage from the band's Canadian performances in Quebec City, Quebec (October 31 and November 1) and Ottawa, Ontario (November 3). Drummer Lars Ulrich commented from the stage at the second Quebec City show, "I couldn't think of a better city for METALLICA to film a DVD." The concerts were filmed by the band's longtime friend and collaborator, famed video director Wayne Isham.

METALLICA has set November 23 as the release date for "Francais Por Une Nuit", or "French For One Night", the full-length concert DVD that the band filmed in Nimes, France on July 7, 2009. The show took place at a historic Roman amphitheatre called the Arenes de Nimes. In addition to the band's complete 18-song set, the disc also includes interviews with the group and five video clips shot by members of the audience. Although initially announced as a France-only release, fan demand has led to Metallica also making the set available through their web site, Metallica.com, as well as the site of the French branch of the band's record company.

A statement posted on the band's web site said, "ALL aspects of the project are French as the show was filmed, recorded, and edited with French camera and recording crews, the artwork on the package and special box set (more on that in a minute!) were created by a French design team; even the credits are in French."

The DVD will come in three formats: standard DVD or Blu-ray in a digipack including a 16-page booklet, and a deluxe limited edition box set that includes the DVD, a copy of "Death Magnetic" on CD, a T-shirt, laminated pass, and five exclusive photos.

Iron Maiden To Begin New Album

Guitarist Janick Gers of British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN revealed to BBC News that the band has already started writing songs for its 15th studio album. "We're going to Paris for three weeks to work on some new stuff," Gers said at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards 2009 on November 2 at the Park Lane Hotel in London, England. "The most important thing for a band is to create new music, otherwise you're not valid — you become a parody."

MAIDEN became the first outfit in history to travel round the world in a customized jet during their "Somewhere Back in Time" tour, as detailed in award-winning movie "Flight 666".

The Boeing 757 carried musicians, crew, gear and guests with singer Bruce Dickinson, a qualified airline pilot, at the controls.

Speaking in the Iron Maiden Fan Club magazine, IRON MAIDEN manager Rod Smallwood recently said, "It took a long time to set up the last tour because of the plane. It had never been done before and we didn't know what we were letting ourselves in for. The idea came a couple of years before that and we got into it a year ahead of the game.

"I'm starting to get my head round what we're going to do next summer. It hasn't been decided yet but we'll do something, so I've got to speak to promoters and agents.

"Now we know the plane works, by Christmas we'll have the pattern set. We'll probably be going for the plane and getting that held for us.

"But at the moment, the album's the key thing on the agenda. The guys will be getting together shortly and they're probably starting to get their heads round new ideas for songs individually. Some of them may meet up before we formally get together.

"We'll spend a period writing, we'll take Christmas off and then we'll get into recording. We'll finish the album in time for it to be out next year and I'm just getting my head round what we want to do touring-wise.

"We'll be doing some new places on the next tour. I won't tell you where they are - they're not finalized yet, but some work has been done. One place we can't play that we'd like to is Bolivia — the altitude is just too high for the type of physical performance the guys do. It's a shame."

Ripper Owens to Sing for Aerosmith? Naa I'm just fuckin with ya's!

AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun on Friday (November 6) that singer Steven Tyler quit the band following a recent concert in Abu Dhabi.

"Steven quit as far as I can tell," Perry said. "I don't know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know."

Part of the problem, Perry said, is that Tyler doesn't return his phone calls.

"He's notorious for that," Perry said. "That's one thing I've learned to live with. I try to overlook it. I like to pick my battles. Frankly, the last few months I've been wanting not to rock the boat. I don't want him canceling any more gigs. We really wanted to do these last four. We just kind of didn't want to call him out or anything and get him anymore pissed off, for whatever reason. So we just let things lie. So we did the gigs and, like I said, I got off the plane and saw this online. That's how I know about it."

Perry said he arrived home in Boston on Wednesday and read on the Internet that Tyler planned to leave the band.

"He has had no contact with me or the other band members," Perry said.

He says he hopes to keep AEROSMITH together, with or without Tyler, but he was so stunned by recent developments he doesn't know what's going to happen.

"Right now I'm adjusting to how we're going to go on," Perry said. "AEROSMITH is such a powerful band, I mean it's like a steam locomotive. You just can't disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do. We're just trying to — at least I am — trying to figure out what direction the band should take.

"As far as replacing Steve, it's not just about that, it's also four guys that play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that go to waste. I really don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we'll be able to move the Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch."

Lemmy is Badass.

The Belfast Telegraph recently conducted an interview with MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

On living life in the fast lane and possible retirement:

"I can't think of anything better to do, can you? I can't see retirement being any better than running round the world chasing birds."

On staying on the road for long periods of time:

"Tours really blur after a while. But every tour's good, as long as you're not crippled!"

On how many other veteran acts take five or more years between albums:

"I think the band kind of dies about the third year in without another album. If I sold as many records as AC/DC, I'd do one every six fucking months!"

On MOTÖRHEAD's influence, with everyone from METALLICA to Dave Grohl crediting the English rockers for having inspired them:

"It's nice to be complimented. If we made somebody pick up a guitar and make music, then it can't be all bad."

On resisting calls to reunite with guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke and drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor — the mob that recorded seminal metal masterpieces like "Overkill", "Bomber" and "Ace of Spades":

"It wouldn't be fair on these two [current drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell]. These guys have played 'Ace of Spades' a lot more times than Phil [Taylor] or Eddie did. We've been working too hard at this band now to put it on hold while I go fucking around with the other two. I'm loyal. I was loyal to Phil and Eddie, too, until they weren't loyal to me any more."

On his lyrics, which continue to rail against the injustices of modern society:

"It's all war and child porn. Mankind hasn't progressed beyond the caves. All we've got are bigger weapons. We can just kill our enemies from further away. We don't have to see what we did."

Zakk's been the only reason to go and see Ozzy for quite a few years now. Still though the things he's doing with Black Label Society are better than anything Ozzy's done since No More Tears. Probably good for him to move on.

Zakk Wylde Interview

Joe Bosso of MusicRadar.com recently conducted an interview with Zakk Wylde (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY). An excerpt from the chat follows below.

MusicRadar.com: Of course, the other major thing that's happened in the last year has been your split with Ozzy...

Zakk: "Well, I'll tell you how it went down. This is how it went down. Oz and mom (Sharon Osbourne), they said, 'Zakk, son, we need to talk to you.' They sat me down at the kitchen table and said, 'Zakk, we're very proud of you, but you're 42 years old now. We just think it's about time you take your wife and your kids and you get the fuck outta your bedroom and grow the fuck up and get a job — because me and your mother want to enjoy our life now. I think we've done enough. You're 42, now get the fuck out of the house!'"

MusicRadar.com: And make something of yourself.

Zakk: "Yes! So that's where we're at right now. [laughs] That's what happened. As rough as it was for me, I had to accept it." [laughs]

MusicRadar.com: Now, I know Ozzy is like family to you, but when it all did happen - I know you were kind of kidding — it seemed to take people surprise...

Zakk: "Well, I found out from Neil Zlozower, 'cause he was doing a photo shoot with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. He calls up and goes, 'Hey dude, I hear you're not playing with Ozzy anymore.' I go, 'Where'd you hear this?" And he's like, 'I heard it from Gene and Paul.' So I go, 'Well, I guess I'm not playing with Ozzy!'" [laughs]

MusicRadar.com: But was it a shock?

Zakk: "It's always been this way: 'We're going out on the road.' It's like, 'When?' 'Tomorrow.' 'What?!'

"I'm the last person to find out anything, you know? 'Wait a minute…I have three kids?' [laughs] 'Yeah, they're 17, 16 and 7, man, so we need some college money now.'

"But I've been with Oz since I was 19; I'm fucking 42 years old. It's just like…like with my dad passing away, same with my mom…I don't go, 'Oh, this sucks.' I never ask; I always thank.

"At least I got to spend 23 years with the boss. And he knows I'll always be there with him. Gus [G., of FIREWIND], who's playing with [Ozzy now], he's fucking awesome. So I hope he has a millisecond of the good time I had — that's a fucking lifetime. Gus will have a fucking blast, you know what I mean?"

KK Downing Interview

Golf365
recently conducted an interview with JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Golf365: Is it true DEF LEPPARD got you into golf?

Downing: Yeah, kind of. They challenged us to a game of golf and we challenged them to tennis. That sort of got us back into golf, because I'd played before but after that we started playing on tour a lot. It made sense because we had the time. We'd get in a cab, me and Glenn (Tipton; fellow JUDAS PRIEST guitarist), didn't know where we were going, didn't care, we'd just ask the driver which was the best course in the area, he'd take us and we'd end up playing some great courses. One time we were in Denver and asked for the top course, ended up at Arrowhead. The memories of that course and to think I played there — it was a special place.

Golf365: You've been on tour in the States this summer. Did you get to play much?

Downing: Only twice — we played Harding Park and then in Florida. They were getting Harding Park ready for the Presidents Cup, putting the bleachers up behind the greens. It was nice but not specced up for a tournament then though. The greens were good but it's a public course and has a lot of traffic so they were full of pitch marks. It was like a leopard skin. You could tell it would scrub up nicely though.

Golf365: What have been the best courses you've played in the States then?

Downing: I think maybe Jack Nicklaus' Desert Highlands resort in Arizona. That was, like, wow! It was the first time I saw round tees as well which blew me away. But then I just love Arizona for golf. I've played plenty of other great places: Doral, LaCosta, Torrey Pines, Cherry Hills ...

Golf365: Pebble Beach?

Downing: No, never played Pebble Beach. Royal Quebec, Cog Hill. I tell you, for years that was the best I had played. It was like: "How come no one talks about Cog Hill?" This summer we stayed at Las Colinas where they play the Byron Nelson but I didn't get to play it. I've played there before. We always stay there actually, played there when Alice Cooper opened for us. I lived in Hawaii for a while and I played all the courses there including Waialae and Kapalua; I love Hawaiian golf. But even some of the no-name courses are great. You know, up in the north — Dakota, Idaho, getting up into those Canadian pines. The drama is fantastic. I reckon you can never build enough drama into a golf course.

Golf365: How do you find the differences between the U.S. and British golf?

Downing: Golf is much more welcoming in the States and I think that's where I got it from, my vision for this place. But then, whenever you are an entertainer in the States they love it. Over here they worry a bit about your reputation.

Golf365: Tell us about your early experiences of playing golf in the UK.

Downing: Well, golf's moved on a long way since I first thought about it. Coming from the Black Country, I know that it used to be a sport for people of a certain class. It wasn't that working class people didn't want to play because you'd see them knocking a ball around in the park. But where could they play? It reminds me of the way things are in Japan now. I don't know what the stats are but I've played there and I've felt guilty playing — yeah, guilty! It's something like 9 out of 10 Japanese golfers won't get to see a course!

Rush To Discuss Their Future

RUSH drummer Neil Peart has updated the "News Weather And Sports" section of his web site with his latest entry, entitled "Autumn Serenade". An excerpt follows below.

"In this autumn of 2009, the three of us are poised on another kind of 'reinvention.' We have agreed to meet in Los Angeles in November, and discuss our future.

"We learned many years ago that when we finish one long project — like a two-year tour following a year or so of writing and recording for 'Snakes & Arrows' — we don’t make any further plans for a while. It's good to feel truly free for a time, and to clear your mind to focus on what you'd really like to do next. Of course, these are parlous times in the music business, so our time-honored pattern of touring, recording, and touring is no longer the obvious way to do things. The music world — or at least the business of it — is very different now, even since 2006, when we began work on 'Snakes & Arrows'. The importance of 'the album' is not what it was, and there is currently a reversion to a musical climate rather like the 1950s, when only 'the song' matters. Radio, downloads, and 'shuffle' settings are inimical to collected works. Because of that reality, record company advances that used to pay for album projects are a thing of the past, so if that was what we wanted to do, we'd be on our own... To this point, the three of us haven't even discussed what we might discuss, so to speak — so our ideas and shared enthusiasm for the entity of RUSH will be fresh, spontaneous, and quite likely exciting. For myself, I'm open to anything we can all agree on (I've pointed out before that in a three-piece band, we need consensus, not democracy — it's no good having one outvoted and unhappy member). My favorite group activity is always songwriting and recording, and I've got some lyrical ideas and those new drumming frontiers to explore. However, those rhythmic concepts would also be inspiring for a new drum solo, if we decided to do a tour of some kind, maybe with an orchestra. We could write and record just a few songs, and release them some way. Or there were a couple of film-and-music projects we had discussed in the past. In any case, there are enough possibilities for future collaboration, and I am curious to see what we'll come up with."

Motorhead To Enter Studio In February

MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister told ABORT Magazine's E.S. Day in a new interview that the band will hit the studio in February "to rehearse, write and record" its next album. The forthcoming CD will be the follow-up to "Motörizer", which sold a little more than 6,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 82 on The Billboard 200 chart. The album was recorded in part (drums only) at FOO FIGHTERS frontman/ex-NIRVANA drummer Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in Northridge, California with producer Cameron Webb, who also worked on "Kiss of Death" and 2004's "Inferno".

On November 2, U.K.-based publisher John Blake Publishing Co. will release the authorized book "Motörhead: In The Studio" by biographer Jake Brown, featuring exclusive interviews with MOTÖRHEAD mainman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister.

"Motörhead: In The Studio" is described in a press release as "the first comprehensive study of the in-studio making of MOTÖRHEAD's legendary catalog — including such classics as 'Overkill', 'Bomber', 'Ace of Spades', 'Orgasmatron', 'March or Die' and 'Motörizer', among others — told via first-hand interviews with engineers and legendary producers as Tony Platt, Trevor Hallesy, Will Reid, Thom Panunzio, John Burns, Howard Benson, Ryan Dorn, Mark Dearnley, Chuck Reed, Peter Solley, Arabella Rodriguez, Cameron Webb, and former drummer Pete Gill." The book's cover was conceived by Kilmister and features the band's classic warpig logo sporting sunglasses and headphones.

"Motörhead: In The Studio" is available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

MOTÖRHEAD performed its classic song "Iron Fist" on the October 8 edition of ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!". Video of the band's appearance can be viewed below.

MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee finished third in the reality-TV competition "Kändisdjungeln", the Swedish version of the popular U.K. and U.S. show "I'm a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here!". Dee was eliminated during the series' fifteenth episode, which aired on September 25.

Dee, 45, sat out most of MOTÖRHEAD's recent North American tour in order to take part in "Kändisdjungeln", which was filmed in the jungles of Malaysia. Filling in for him on the dates that he missed was former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum

This isn't really a press article as such, I I've just heard that Tom Wheatcroft, the owner of Donington Park (which is, of course, the home of the greatest rock festival in the world, plus a lot of great motor racing) has just died aged 78. He bought the place in 1971 and restored it- so without him we would never have had the amazing performances (including Judas Priest) that have taken place there since 1980. RIP Tom Wheatcroft.

Slayer Release 20 Minute Video/Graphic Novel

SLAYER's video graphic novel "Playing With Dolls" can be viewed below. The clip is available for viewing only through the weekend, and then on Tuesday as part of the "deluxe-edition" version of the band's new album, "World Painted Blood". (Note: The video will be removed from MySpace after this weekend.)

No mere music video, the 20-minute "Playing with Dolls" was created and directed by Mark Brooks ("Metalocalypse") and is a stark, 12-part nightmare that breathes corrupt life into SLAYER's latest syllabus of stalkers, psychopaths and serial killers, merging their aberrant psyches into the supremely focused desire of a single, merciless malcontent. A methodical distillation of one man's lethal frenzy, the film follows the gruesome outbursts of a nameless protagonist. He is not an indiscriminate murder junkie, but rather a highly creative snuff-artist with a deeply personal sense of purpose — a man for whom murder is the only conceivable way forward. With a black heart hardened by tragedy, he chooses his victims carefully. His methods are as grisly and varied as they are poetic.

Inspired by the songs on "World Painted Blood" — in particular Jeff Hanneman's "Playing With Dolls", from which the horror short takes its title — the film blends elements of animation and still-photography into a visual style similar to that of a graphic novel. The soundtrack for the "Playing With Dolls" short features clips from all 11 of the songs on "World Painted Blood"; in addition, the music bed for episode No. 7 is taken from "Atrocity Vendor", a new song that is not on the album.

"It's not live action and it's not animated," Brooks explains. "It's a weird hybrid of the two, and I haven't seen a lot of things done this way."

"It's a little weirder than your regular blood n' guts type thing," he says of the storyline, "which I think is a reflection of SLAYER's music."

But make no mistake: There is blood, and plenty of it. As the real-life boyfriend of one of the film's "victims" told Brooks after a private screening, "I almost threw up while I watching that. And I think that's a compliment."

SLAYER — bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo — started recording "World Painted Blood", the band's 10th studio album, last October in a Los Angeles studio with producer Greg Feldeman, and completed it this past May. Recording "World Painted Blood" was a unique experience for SLAYER who has historically begun the recording process with all songs written and fully rehearsed. This time, they did the bulk of writing and song development while in the studio. According to drummer Dave Lombardo, "On this record, we worked a lot more collectively, we were more attentive to each other's ideas and willing to try them, which only benefited the album." "World Painted Blood" is indeed a SLAYER album, and consequently deals with topics such as death and destruction, war, serial killers, and the Apocalypse. "Psychopathy Red", leaked online a year ago, was inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, a.k.a. the Rostov Ripper, who confessed to brutally murdering 56 children. "Beauty Through Order" (Kerry King: "one of Jeff's songs, it has a very heavy 'do me' intro to it then explodes with a really cool vibe,") "Unit 731", "Playing With Dolls" (Lombardo: an awesome track, great song structure, great vibe"), "Public Display of Dismemberment", and "Americon", a King composition. Of "Americon", King explains, "It's about what I think the rest of the world thinks of America. We may not be big on a lot of people's lists, but I don't care what you think of my government, of my economy, or whatever. I live here and this is one of the best places that I've ever found to live. So fuck you if you don't like it."

"World Painted Blood" will initially ship with four special collector's edition CD covers. Each of the four covers will display one-fourth of a provocative continental map illustrated with human skulls and bones; when placed together, the four images form a complete and grisly map of the world. All four of the initial CD packages will include a special blood-red, see-through top panel with the map displayed beneath it.

Log on to www.slayer.net to pre-order your copy of "World Painted Blood".

Ozzy, Ray Davies & Lou Reed perform with Metallica

Ozzy Osbourne (BLACK SABBATH), Ray Davies (THE KINKS) and Lou Reed joined METALLICA on stage earlier tonight (Friday, October 30) at Madison Square Garden in New York City for their performance at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame 25th anniversary concert.

METALLICA's setlist was as follows:

01. For Whom The Bell Tolls
02. One
03. Turn The Page
04. Sweet Jane (w/ Lou Reed)
05. White Light White Heat (w/ Lou Reed)
06. Iron Man (w/ Ozzy Osbourne)
07. Paranoid (w/ Ozzy Osbourne)
08. You Really Got Me (w/ Ray Davies)
09. All Day And All Of The Night (w/ Ray Davies)
10. Stone Cold Crazy
11. Enter Sandman

In his review of the concert, John Soeder of The Plain Dealer writes, "METALLICA was on hand to represent the harder side of rock. The headbanging portion of the evening commenced with 'For Whom the Bell Tolls'.

"In addition to a sampling of their own fist-pumping anthems, singer-guitarist James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett, bassist Robert Trujillo and drummer Lars Ulrich took a stab at BOB SEGER's 'Turn the Page' before summoning an impressive supporting cast.

"'Go (expletive) crazy!' Ozzy Osbourne instructed as METALLICA accompanied him on 'Iron Man' and 'Paranoid'.

"The inspired pairings continued as METALLICA tore through 'Sweet Jane' with Lou Reed and 'You Really Got Me' with Ray Davies."

Check out photos of METALLICA's performance from The Plain Dealer.

METALLICA was inducted into the Hall of Fame this past April.

Tonight's show also featured U2, BECK, BUDDY GUY, ARETHA FRANKLIN, ANNIE LENNOX, LENNY KRAVITZ and JERRY LEE LEWIS.

Highlights of both nights' Madison Square Garden concerts will be part of a four-hour broadcast next month on HBO.

Scorpions - Live In the Jungle DVD

In August 2007, Germany's most successful music export worldwide, SCORPIONS, ventured deep into the Brazilian jungle for a sold-out show in front of 40,000 enthusiastic fans the band played a concert in Manaus, the metropolis on the Amazon river. A cooperation with Greenpeace was already existent at this point and when the band returned to South America the next year, they happily intensified it.

Kaus Meine, lead singer of the SCORPIONS, recollects, "Due to the unbelievable success we returned to Manaus in 2008, but we also played Rio, Sao Paulo and Recife again. During the show in Belem, we accepted Greenpeace's invitation to participate in a three-hour flight across the rainforest in order to get a picture of the proceeding destruction (an area twice the size of Germany has been destroyed by fire so far). We wholeheartedly supported Greenpeace with large banners saying 'Stop the deforestation' during these shows and part of the proceeds from this DVD will consequently be given to this organization that is commited in so many parts of the world."

For many years, Greenpeace has been fighting against the rapid deforestation of the amazon rainforest and for the preservation of the habitat of numerous animal and plant species and also of more than 180 native peoples counting more than 200,000 people altogether. Scientists assume that the rainforest will be gone by 2050 — given a constant "deforestation speed." The consequences would be disastrous: People would lose their homes, animals and plants would become extinct and the impact on the world climate would be bomb-like.

The SCORPIONS have now commited themselves to protecting this unique ecosystem. The rock icons' DVD "Amazonia - Live In The Jungle" not only includes the complete show played in Recife on September 7, 2008 and a "Special Feature – supported by Greenpeace" consisting of five live videos from their legendary concert in Manaus in 2007, but also a Greenpeace documentation of the SCORPIONS' legendary flight across the amazon rainforest. Royalties of DVDs sold in Brazil and Mexico predominately go to Greenpeace Brazil's projects to protect the ancient forest.

Musically, the DVD is a highlight as well. Meine says, "During the 2008 tour we had the pleasure to perform with Brazilian guest musicians. It was a wonderful experience and demonstrated very well how music builds bridges and brings people from different cultures together."

In a closing statement, the musician addresses his South American fans and says, "We want to thank our Brazilian fans for the support and the incredible enthusiasm. To quote James: '3 words: You kick ass.' Brazil rocks!!!"

Actually, I am still rather impressionable.....HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You make a great point, though. Young and still learning. All in all, I must concede that Unleashed had the same effect on me. Once I heard it I knew there was nothing better.  What a great album. What is funny is that British Steel really didn't do much for me at first. Seriously! I have no idea why but I just did not take to it as quickly as I did Unleashed. Once again...young and impressionable.
