$160 REAIS? Meu Deus do ceu.
No advertising in a country like Brasil is an atrocity. Country of fanatics that would have flooded the place with even the slightest of promotion and, as you say, better opening bands.

I have always said that Detroit is a Metal Metropolis but I am sad to say that I fear the same is going to happen there. I can only hope that my gut instinct is wrong.

They turned into a joke on May 25th 2011 when they went on that shit fuck show called American Arsewipe!
Since that,i have not listen to a Judas Priest album and i am even embarrassed to be a Priest fan!
I won't wear a Priest shirt cause i don't want someone say to me,i saw them on American idol,so i stick with me Gorgoroth and Black Sabbath shirts!

Why i even come in here anymore,i don't know.
There are a few people in here that make laugh and that is why i guess!

But anyways, now with all the greatest hits cd's on the go i guess they are trying to cash in on American Idol fans and maybe, just maybe, they are going to be on Glee with Parental Guidance.
If so,well,i would not be shocked now!

On that note, take of yourselves and of each other!

Peace and love!

The Metallian!

People, let me tell you all something. It's September 15th and Priest are here in Brasilia, Brasil TONIGHT! But I'm not there, why? I'm tired and really don't want to shell out  R$160.00 (they discount their price from R$300/ticket) to go to a more than half empty stadium. Labor is CHEAP here in Brasil which means they (Priest management) could have had some cheap labor paint some Priest concert advertisements on the concrete walls like every other band; plus some radio ads or 1 billboard....but NO...NOTHING!
My gosh, Iron Maiden came here 3 months ago and there was advertisment everywhere including a Iron Maiden Billboard ad right outside my apartment building plus radio ads for 2 solid weeks before the concert and guess what.....SOLD OUT!  Furthermore Priest is here with 'White Snake' and I'm sick of old, out dated bands. My God Priest can't get a young fresh metal band vs dragging out old dead bands like Queensryche, White Snake?  these band were good 20 years ago but  come on!!!

When Priest did the Nostradamus tour they touted that they were most pround of Nostradamus BUT we got a cartoon video of 'WAR'...wow!! What about the other 3-4 songs that were 10x better?  Then on tour they didn't play shit from Nos. just 2 songs..Prophecy and Death...wow!

I have loved JP for the last 30 years but since Painkiller they've had their heads up their asses when it comes to promotion. videos, producers (or lack thereof.)

KK was smart to sit this out and focus on his golf course!

[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Thursday, September 15, 2011 6:41:03 PM
That is very possible. I'm sure every band has different obligations to fulfill based on their contracts with the record label. It all depends on JP's contract whether they have any say or not about what is put out as well.

[You Don't Know What It's Like!] Thursday, September 15, 2011 4:32:16 PM
I remember reading something once, along the lines that if a band signs a record deal, say for 9 albums etc, in order for either the record label or the band to run this contract down faster (perhaps if things aren't going quite as well as one or both parties had hoped) then live albums, double albums & compilations can be a good way to get to the end of said contract.

Perhaps, that's what we are seeing here now, with the release of "Nostradamus", "A Touch Of Evil - Live", "British Steel - 30th Anniversary", "Single Cuts Box-set" & now "The Chosen Few".

Not sure how many albums that would knock off the contract, but quite a few I'd imagine.

Food for thought anyway.

[J.D. DIAMOND] Thursday, September 15, 2011 3:26:49 PM

lol   Jimmy...."K.K." could be the reason the band is fucked up now as his Nostradamus ideas ( and yes K.K. started the Nostradamus project /ideas ) are the reason the band started to degenerate into a farce,if he would of shut his ego mouth and just followed Rob and Glenn into another normal metal album instead of dreaming up Nostradamus the band would of had a british metal album out already,Rob and Glenn realized that ending a career on Nostradamus seemed wrong....unlike "K.K.'' who was absolutely fine with that being the last Judas Priest album.....go figure....just my guess from what I know....

They were forced into a British Steel reunion tour because Ken didn't want to make another album and was still in the band and the management did not want to tour the nostradamus album like K.K. wanted to because it would not sell,so there ya go...but I do agree that the band & management are rehashing these lame compilation albums/live/best of.....it is a joke so I do agree with that. Now go figure....K.K. is out of the band and Rob and Glenn want to do a normal british heavy metal album again.....its sad to say but I believe K.K. was the entire downfall of Judas Priest starting in 2006 when the Retribution tour was over and when he started to create Nostradamus.

How could K.K. let Nostradamus be the last album in a "heavy metal "band's career? It just doesn't make any sense at all.....I'm glad Rob and Glenn are making at least one more album to top Nostradamus from being the last LP,no matter how good or bad it is it will definately be better than the shitty Nostralullaby album.

I think you are right about KK. I think he wanted to do the farewell tour and end it there. But then they wanted to make another album and he thought, they are just going to keep on going so I may as well just stop now. Something along those lines anyway. As far as what I said about it being SONY's idea for this stupid compilation album - I have no idea just how much input a band has in stuff like that. Do they get a vote at all, do they have to approve it before SONY can do it? Ultimately though, you have to admit their management has screwed them royally for years, but that is still the bands fault for not kicking them to the curb like they should have years ago. JP just seems to be willing to go along with whatever anyone tells them to do instead of being proactive and taking control (as much as they can) of their careers. It's just fucking sad....

This band is done. It's all descended into a joke. Honestly, the reality is this band are a joke now. Just a bunch of over the hill rip off merchants. I can't believe people on this site bag Maiden and stick up for these guys who haven't done anything decent since 1990. Yeah I'm sure the band have nothing to do with this, it's all management, Yeah right. I reckon KK left because he'd had a gutsful of this kind of shit. I think the real story is that they agreed to do a farewell tour and end it, the others welched and said "We want to do another shitty album and flog this dead horse some more" and he said "In that case I'm leaving because I don't want to see the band I started degenerate into a farce". Which it has.

And despite what everyone on this site seems to think, Rob has lost it. He just sounds screechy and irritating now.
[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Thursday, September 15, 2011 7:03:36 AM
I'm not sure how much the band really has to do with this. Remember that survey sent to some people? It was from SONY. They asked about other bands we listened to. This was the record companies way of cashing in on Priest yet again without having to spend much money since everything is already recorded. But who do they think is going to buy this? Die hard fans already have everything, so we aren't going to buy it. They need to release stuff that we DON'T already have FFS, if they want us to spend our money.

Same goes here in the States - no promotion about the tour at all. But then again, it's managements decision how much money goes into the promotion budget. They just don't get it, you have to spend money to make money. I'm still running into people that have no idea that Priest is even touring right now and when they will be coming around and the Detroit show is in 2 months. It's just fucking sad that they are going out this way....

going from disheartened it could be all over, to maybe its time  , really lemmy picks BTL!!! really????? i read the post below about the lack of advertising done by priest to promote their concerts and i have to agree, the most i have seen here in b.c. canada so far is at my local water slide for 80s night,  win tickets to( in descending order )  santana, janet jackson then judas priest!!!! WTF  a water slide is advertising the mighty? priest!  . they might be able to rest on their laurals if they didnt avg. 1 album every 5 years. thats why with iron maiden , even though their last 6, 8? albums are marginal, have such success, they are out there every 2 years promoting and  doing live shows and keeping the iron maiden brand a household name and on our side there seems to be a lot of apathy. we are all crying out for a new album but i think a lot , and i mean alot of us would be extermely happy with a back catalog/open up the vault tour, strip it down and make it intimate , a homage to the die hard fans out there!!!!,  that being said, epitaph oct 30th in vancouver will absolutely kill , just how many other shows could have killed? , we will never know , sign me sad so sad

What a kick in the yarbles. As if many on that list had any street cred left to "pick."

Would make a helluva concert, though. As for the compilation, I think I'll just mix my own and invent the commentary.

Rant:
I've been a Priest fan for may years but their management sucks when it comes to promoting their concerts. I live in Brasilia, Brazil, when Iron Maiden came through  here a few months ago there were billboard concert ads, radio announcements 5x/day, whole I.M. albums played on our cable tv digital music (Globo FM) for a week or two leading up to the concert.
Judas Priest- NADDA!!!   no signage, no radio ads, no albums played on our digital cable music....NOTHING!  and they wonder why few come to their shows...hmmmm
I guarantee when Priest comes to Brasilia it will be a gost town compared to when Iron Maiden came.

I'm glad that you aren't expecting a response because you won't get one. I emailed them several times the first time I tried signing up 3 years ago and never heard a word and that account was never approved, even 3 years later. You must have to know one of the admins to be let on. From what it seems like now, they only let tools on the site. I've heard from many people that it USED to be a great site, but now it isn't fun anymore. One friend had her account frozen without any explanation at all. She didn't have any problems with anyone and yet she can no longer post..... so the admins there are obviously on some kind of power trip.

JUDAS PRIEST Singer Says '12 Or 14' Songs Have Been 'Completely Mapped Out' For Next Album - Sep. 1, 2011
Gary Graff of Billboard.com conducted an interview with singer Rob Halford of British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On the band's next album:

Halford: [Guitarist Glenn Tipton and I] began writing new music early on this year, before we went out on the road. We have about 12 or 14 tracks completely mapped out, four of which have been recorded and mixed and are ready to go... so the good news is that there will be a brand new PRIEST record next year."

"I think it's fair to say that this is going to be just another great, traditional British heavy metal album from PRIEST with what you love about the band -- the riffs, the screaming vocals, all of the tradition and heritage that we try to keep somehow in our music as we've moved along."

On JUDAS PRIEST's ongoing "Epitaph" farewell world tour:

Halford: [We are] taking every opportunity to let our fans know this is not the end of JUDAS PRIEST. We're just cutting back on these big, long treks around the world that we love to do. But yet we're facing mortality; as a metal singer I'm still able to do the vast majority of things that have laid out before me...but I'd be the first to admit that I'm finding it more challenging now, and I don't want to get into that syndrome where you end up a little bit punch-drunk and you're not giving the performance that you want to give. I'm delighted that we're taking this approach because the inevitable payoff is that it gives the band more life. We're able to continue doing selective shows in the future and, as importantly, keep recording and making new metal records."

On possibly playing a live show based on PRIEST's 2008 concept album "Nostradamus":

Halford: "That is a very important record for us. We had a big-picture aspect of what we wanted to do with 'Nostradamus' in mind — of course, to play it in its entirety, which is completely feasible — and because we are cutting back on these intense tours we can focus more on that."

On how guitarist Kenneth "K.K." Downing's departure is comparable to his own time away from the band between 1992 and 2003:

"PRIEST has always been there. PRIEST has never been away. The attitude is that the band is bigger than you. The music and the heritage and the tradition of the band is bigger than one member of the group. That's really important to think about, you know?"

On Downing's replacement, Richie Faulkner:

Halford: "[He is] a phenomenal talent [and] a tremendous boost and a relief as well. There are a lot of different feelings we went through, But Richie is out there night after night, tearing up the stage and delivering the goods, as we like to say."

It is a shame. You would think they could just say "Bloody Hell, we've done some pretty amazing stuff together over the years and we couldn't have done it without each other. Lets just bury hatchet and carry on doing it without bitching at each other" You would think that if they can get through their 20s and 30s with no problems that everything else would be easy. Really this kind of shit going on in your 40s 50s and 60s is crazy.

Sounds to me like he could see what was going on up front as well as what was happening on the fringes, maybe he was backstage. Turns out it was a review from the Wacken Open Air Festival so after a couple of days of hard out moshing maybe the crowd were exhausted. Ozzy had the benefit of playing to them 24 hours earlier when they weren't so tired, hence the energy levels were higher when he played. He never at any point says that Priest played badly. He just says the crowd weren't as into it as they were the night before. More to the point, what I want to know is, with the back catalogue Priest have, why the fuck are they playing Prophecy of all songs? Tedious, unimaginative, standard metal riffs with annoying screechy voacls, stupid lyrics and the dumbest chorus ever a five year old could have thought up. If they are gonna crank out 15-20 songs that one doesn't deserve to be in there when thay have so many awesome tunes to pick from.

You could be right JJ but what was this guy doing off on the fringes? Eating Bratwurst and drinking beer most likely? That was his review from the bratwurst/beer table.

[jimmyjames] Saturday, August 06, 2011 6:11:15 PM
What he actually says is that they played a "pretty great gig" it was some of the fans (not all) who were a bit apathetic around the fringes. He says they did a great set that their fans would have loved but the crowd reaction paled in comparison to Ozzys show the night before. This is understandable, I think, because Ozzy has a much wider audience than what Priest has and even people who weren't diehard Ozzy fans would be familiar with the majority of his set. Hence the reason they perked up a bit when BTL was played. To tell you the truth I, as a big Priest fan for 20 years, would probably use Prophecy as a reason to go and grab a beer too. Also by the sounds of it this was a festival show so it's understandable that the crowds enthusiasm might have waned a little after however many hours moshing. And being a festival not necessarily everyone is there to see Priest anyway. I actually thought it was quite a favourable review and maybe it was taken as part of a review from the festival as a whole rather than a critique of Priests set alone.

Well, from the picture that Richie posted on FB of the crowd taken from the stage, it was a sea of people watching and loving Priest! Not to mention, the "reviewer" calls Prophecy "I am Nostradamus". Obviously NOT a Priest fan and can't even bother to get their facts straight before writing the review. Of course out of 77,000 people there, there are bound to be people that aren't there to see Priest and would hang out at the edges of the crowd with all the drunks.....  And the last remark I find interesting: Judas Priest played a great set, for Judas Priest fans.... well, NO SHIT! So were they supposed to only play their radio stuff and then leave, would that have made it a good set for this "reviewer"???

I find that hardly beliveable coming from none other than "Germany" the greatest place in the world for all styles of  metal.
Halford could have his worst night on the tour in Germany and they wouldn't care in the least, sounds like a fake report to me.

Sorry to hear this...

A two and a half hour headline set would be a lot for any band, but for Judas Priest – it’s just not worth it. The density and passion of those at the front made for a pretty great gig, but the telltale signs of apathy were to be seen around the edges where scores of tired and hungry rockers were ignoring the music in favour of bratwurst and a sit-down.

Acting every bit the metal gods they are in music history, covered in as many spiked studs as can fit on an entire suit made of leather and sporting some natty head tattoos, frontman Rob Halford spiralled about the stage swishing his fringed arms at the crowd during newer song ‘I am Nostradamus’. The on stage flames and laser displays weren’t enough to make this the epic headline performance it should have been, despite the talent and sheer classic metal high regard in which they are held.

Halford screamed into the night “Are you ready for Judas Priest style heavy metal?” to which one sleeping metal-head lifted his hat to say ‘Nein’. Fans perked up for ‘Breaking The Law’ and arrival of the huge black motorbike on stage. Ending the show wearing German flag, Halford sang them out in style.

Judas Priest played a great set, for Judas Priest fans. For everyone else, it paled in comparison to Ozzy’s previous nights’ performance.

A second step in registering.
I suppose it's a good way to keep someone who's pissed off about something from just making an account and coming on the Q and starting a bunch of shit. Hopefully, I won't forget about signing up before they get back to me.

This was just posted this morning on the Q by Metal God Records:

Dear RH.com Visitors:

I withdrew my comments last week, for I chose not to sit on the sideline.

I have resolved all matters, and I will share general details of the resolution once the lawyers clean-up.

Rob Halford's participation in the tour was never an issue, and he will continue to tour with Judas Priest on its Farewell Tour.

Regards,

John Baxter

I registered a long time ago at the Q and sent many emails until the email box was full and they still did not register me. So all I can do is lurk.
[Eternal Servant] Monday, August 01, 2011 11:24:49 AM
@HB, why post in the Q? In my case,  I love Rob and show respect to him. If someone trashes the shit out of him, I'll say my opinion to defend him even if my fanboy attitude makes me look like an idiot. It's a fun place full of hilarious dudes such as the original bassist of Vicious Rumors, Dave Starr who loves Judas Priest / HALFORD.
If one is thin-skinned and can't take criticizms on his/her opinions in public, then lurking is good enough.
I've been attacked by trolls but I'm OK and actually mended misunderstanding through pms.

On top right of the site, there's Contacts section. Try sending a message if you can. Many mention it takes time to get registered. I waited for a while and I almost forgot

I got your reference to "soap drama." Did you understand the first part of my message? That I didn't intend to stir shit? Why on Earth would you bring it up?

I do appreciate your reference to me as a "marathon man," though. My last was actually in support of JAPAN! WTF? Please make all correspondence to me in the future in the name of "SCUBA man," ok? That is my latest interest.

As for the Q? You obviously have no idea who I am there. Look closer. How about that? Done with this topic. RATT RULZ!

Soap opera = drama = JB message-gate

While the scenario you describe is, indeed, "natural" at the Q it has certainly not always been the case. You could certainly give as many examples as I could.

As for the rest of your message to me, I frankly don't understand what you are trying to say (save for forget the uhhh .... "soap" .... drama)? An English problem, to be sure. Believe me, though, I keep my soap on a rope so there is nothing to drop. LOL!
