Nostradamus is a wonderful album Priest are really proud of. It`s their most ambitious project to date. An album that shows their versatility and experience as musicians. They dared to do something different within the genre and most important of all they did it from their hearts.
Both albums would be great live. Priest always kick ass live, the shows are awesome, they never disappoint me. Looking forward to seeing them in Chile again!!! |

Don't hold your breath headbanger. It's not so much that people will learn (as those in question who are defending Brittish Steel are probably not capable of learning much) but if it makes them better people subconsciously that would be an improvement. Plus those who have supported the band and seen these silly Brittish Steel songs for years will benefit if Priests steps up their current live set. Those issues seem more important than having those simple people "learn" about music. Both Rob & Glenn have said that the almost 3 hour Nostradamus set will not have an opening band. I'm sure you missed that but you can start making plans for a family night of Hannah Montana. We definitely don't want you at the venue talking over the masterpieces on Nostradamus or spilling your light beers all over the place while we are trying to enjoy one of the best shows ever.
Ron please don't take it too personal I am sure you are knowledgeable in other areas but some of the others who just "found" Brittish Steel should not waste commenting until they are more knowledgeable and can do more than quote mainstream reviews of this Brittish Steel that they read in Wall-Mart or in Rolling Stone comparing it to "other Metal Classics" like Deep Purple's Machine Head. And why would I want to jam out to a car? Yes Ron, it was unanimous-Everyone in my area who was a Judas Priest fan before Brittish Steel was disappointed with that release. As I mentioned before it may have been different in the deep suburbs of Oklahoma. By the time we heard the solo for Headin out the Highway for the first time, we burst into laughter and began playing it left handed. I like it better now by the way but it is quite simple and dumbing-just get a good tone and play it cool.
Spandex? Brittish Steel is what many people think of when they hear the word spandex. Perhaps you are the pot calling the kettle black? Are you going to wear them to the show? Also, maybe those red pants will be back on stage for this Brittish Steel tour. It would be only fitting.

It would seem to me that you fancy yourself some kind of authority on music, not to mention intelligence, based on some kind of logistical criteria. Unfortunately, your specious arguments serve only to expose you as yet ANOTHER trouble making "know-it-all" with VERY little substance and less education.
Please explain how it is that someone who is going on and on about an album begins by not even having the brains to spell "BRITISH" correctly?? Also, I am not sure what kind of school system is available in YOUR area but one cannot "take it personal" when the word is an adverb and one would be taking it personally. MORE brilliance, MENSA. Further, you continue to refer to "we" as if you and those in your particular area are somehow better or more well-informed with regard to music and its viability. What is it that can possibly be "learned" from you? Poor spelling? Elitism? Unless one is royalty, referring to oneself as "we" is nonsense and makes one look foolish. Well done!
It is interesting that you are so very proud of those in YOUR area yet you (conveniently) do not say where that is... Clearly, it is a "hot bed" of musical superiority! Not much for educated conversation and polite dialogue but you surely know your way around an album, huh? Before you come to this site and begin a feeble campaign to insult it's members, perhaps you should take a few summer school classes in English? You certainly must have time as you cannot possibly hold down a job with such poor communication skills.

Keyd, I do not "take it too personal" you're comments about British Steel, you're entitled to them...what I do find disturbing is your lack of tact, it's the ability to have a keen sense of what to do or say in order to maintain good relations with others or avoid offense... WOW, could you be any more rude and patronising? Seriously, there is no need for that bullshit.
I am not sure why you are comparing Unleashed in the East to Priests studio albums, either. Of course a live album like that is going to be 'powerful' because it contains all the raw emotion of performing in front of an audience.
And for the record, your statement about British Steel is the FIRST time I have EVER heard any Priest fan say they and their other friends who are 'fans' dislike it. It's a classic, period. A lot of the heavy metal released these days doesn't come close to that album in terms of musicianship alone, never mind any of the other factors that make up a heavy metal album.

Don`t worry Ron, it seems that my comment bothered him/her a lot. It`s sad when people don`t show any respect for what musicians do. Some people don`t know how difficult it is to make music and remain at the top for more than 30 years. Few bands can accomplish this, just the best.
I know everybody should express freely in this Board. We all have different opinions and that`s valid. There's no need of offending others.
I`ve checked out all Priest discography, thanks! The albums before B Steel are just as powerful, if you haven't been able to check them out, do so!! | | chileansteel wrote: | | Both albums are excellent. In the first place British Steel is a very important album in their career which includes "Breaking The Law", a metal hymn, absolute classic, one of the best tracks in the history of heavy metal. I think they were so much inspired . British Steel led me to know Judas Priest and become a fan. It just blew my mind!

Pardon me???? I was just wondering how well you know the band??? And who it was that really didnt want to do a Nostradamus tour right now at this moment??? Ill give you a clue his initials are G T.????? This band has nothing to prove Nostradamus or not... They have been there and done that,,, They are regular people just like you and I, and maybe want to do something fun and for themselves,, like a Anniv tour... That is what KK said anywase..
Not trying to ruffle any feathers, here but.. You cannot go by what you read in the media alone and claim you know everything..
Peace Out.

Ron, shhush. lets sit back and learn from the almighty Keyd. clearly far more knowledgable than we will ever be. Sure, Motorhead was faster and Sabbath was darker and Maiden, well, they didn't release their first 'til '80...UFO, Saxon, ACDC, Aerosmith, Foghat, Thin Lizzy, Bad Company, Foreigner, Cheap Trick, Montrose...the list goes on for those late '60 - 70's band's...none of which defined Heavy Metal as we know it today but Priest!!...FYI, I love Nostradamus and I agree with your opinion of it...but that is for my home, not headbanging for 2+ hours...no way!!...doen't mean I wouldn't go see it, 'cause I would, but I would be in a different frame of mind going in!!! | | Keyd wrote: | | B.S we don't want the classics included this time. Ron anyone who calls Brittish Steel the first Metal album wasn't alive in 1980 or they were over 80 in 1980. So many albums have been "labelled" the first metal album. These statements are made by simple idiots who feel the need to label things to make it easier for them to confine them to a little box. Is Led Zep the first heavy metal band? Deep Purple? cmon! Ron you may be getting too old but with Nostradamus you will have time to recover after a much faster and more intense headbang than you will get with the slow dumbed down 4/4 of Brittish Steel. Headbanging with Nostradamus or opiate nodding and lighter waving with "United".

Keyd...speak for yourself!! I, as well as most of the fans I knew, weren't disappointed with Priest 'til Point of Entry was released. Why don't you go to your closet, put on your spandex jumpsuit and jam out to some REO Speedwagon or something, and leave the Board to those of us that actually want to make friends and talk about good times and Judas Priest without demeaning and ridiculing everyone who doesn't see eye to eye with you!! Chileansteel, don't let what Keyd posted bother you...it's obvious he doesn't have a clue as to what he/she is talking about. British Steel is a classic album, and it obviously still has drawing power 30 years later, as it drew you in. The albums before B Steel are just as powerful, if you haven't been able to check them out, do so!!
Looking forward to seeing them in Chile again!!! |

the clasics are not only the radio hits, like ron mentioned there are a lot of great songs on BS. sure some of it sounds dated by todays standards, its a old disc, still a good one. tons of fans love nost, some like it, and a whole shitload, myself included might go to see a nost concert, only if the opening act was someone AWESOME. if it was whitesnake, the tixs had beter be damn cheap and the concert fall on a night that my wife and kids had made plans on.
I will agree with you that lables, particularily the first of this that and the other are bull shit. I wouldn't get too hung up on Living After Midnight, as that was one of the lighter songs as compared to Metal Gods, The Rage, Grinder, You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise and Steeler...Historically speaking, British Steel is often regarded as arguably the first true Heavy Metal album, front to back, ever recorded...and set the bar at the time...that is what all the hoopla is about...and I, for one, would rather go see that than the entire Nos release, even though I really like it alot, it would be difficult to party and headbang to it... [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Keyd from Tuesday, June 09, 2009 6:24:03 PM) | | Keyd wrote: | | Well in 1980 I remember Ace of Spades, Heaven & Hell, Blizzard of Oz, and Iron Maiden's debut plus many, many local metal bands making Living after midnight sound like pre-teen pop which is what it was and still is. Possibly in the Deep Suburbs of Oklahoma this would sound Metal in 1980 but not for me living in the Metal Capital of the world.
The fact is it is 2009 & they want us to listen to them snooze through the (limited) motions of performing the boring brittish steel? Maybe in 1980 I could stomach it but as some of you know, it was a bit different then and so am I. They are even saying that they will play the entire album plus other "classics". No mention of Nostradamus songs. I know many people skipping this tour and many who will travel extensively to see Nostradamus played. These are people who go see good live bands of all types.
Looking at the "epic" albums mentioned, it is obvious you like pre-teen pop (including the modernly glorified and overly processed emo type) and that would explain why you would even think of defending Judas Priest's least adventerous album.
It seems that those who only listen to "metal" do not like the Nostradamus album but those who actually listen to music and who actually go see the most talented musicians play any type (and often not labelable) of music, enjoy the Nostradamus album. People who go to over 100 shows a year & who are capable of listening to a variety of time signtures and tones love the Nostradamus album. That is ok but this helps explains the "simp" adjective a littlle bit so I won't explain any further at this time. Plus those "epic bands" sound like terribly recorded elevator music with comedic vocals. Those are not good musicians and you are obviously not either, so I will excuse your misguided & sheltered ideas as an uninformed opinion. god's wind & Summoning (the poop) was fun to play for about one minute with more & better tone (not difficult) until it made me a brain dead simp. hmmm... just like Brittish Steel! I really like the nostrodamus album, but thts alot of songs and tht album would take up the whole setlist and then we wouldnt be able to see their other "classics".
And i still struggle to find out why so many ppl dislike Nostradamus. I mean, it was a concept album, and it was a little different, to me songs like Pestilence and Plague, and Visions, aong with the title track and more sound like classic priest, Its a good album , and for a band as successful as Priest is, o change their sound a little with every album is very ballsy.
ALL HAIL THE METAL GODS \m/! |

LOL! I admit that I don't spin British Steel that often simply because I've heard it so many times as of almost all Judas Priest albums, but British Steel was and is not a "pre-teen pop album". Your probably not as old as I am,but I remember in 1980 when this album was released and brand new, "Living After Midnight" today may seem very commercial but in 1980 it was on the radio and was a more party type of song, but still heavy metal and was not a pre-teen "pop" album. You've got to remember at that time in 1980,this was still pretty "heavy".....in 1980 it was still pretty much the 1970's,so it was a very "metal" thing.
I don't want then to play the whole album of Nostradamus, and for the record I am not one of those "bitter simps that can't comprehend the great Nostradamus" as you've put it.
I listen to albums by Summoning,Lord Wind,Emperor's Equilibrium XI album,Graveland's "Immortal Pride"album...ect....so I do like "epic" albums,I just don't like the "songwritting" of "Nostradamus".
I would like the band to take a break and go into the studio and clear thier minds of "Nostradamus" and create what they create best......a true british styled heavy metal album, like "Angel Of Retribution". [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Keyd from Thursday, April 23, 2009 2:42:22 PM) | | Keyd wrote: | | I would much more than all of the dreaded Brittish Steel album. I guess they are tired and need a break. This is definitely catering to the bitter simps that can't comprehend the great Nostradamus album. I guess they will get many more 1st timers to these shows but I don't think they will sell the amount of merchandise that Nostradamus fans would buy. I suppose it is a "special" event but who would buy or wear a Brittish Steel tour shirt/merch other than someone who has never seen Priest or is brand new to the band and hasn't been exposed to all of their more adventerous albums. A 44 minute pre-teen pop album from 1980, or an intense and recent musical masterpiece clocking in at well over 100 minutes???
Unfortunately I feel $trung along and have to wait through another filler $how before they will play their best shows from their best album, Nostradamus!
Livin after Midnight over Nostradamus??? In 2009??? I think I am going to get sick."Loaded, Loaded???" More like buzzkill, buzzkill!!! I am sure I will be in for an even less attentive and more annoying crowd than was at the Metal Masters Tour. WOW! |
