thats very well said.  not every album should be painkiller either.  if we wanted the same damn thing every time, we could just get one cd.  change is good.  I think it hurts the overall fan base, maiden with all the discs sounding interchangable sells more, but its not what I want, that I know

LOL
well, I wont sell the house.  I can tell you for sure that buying a dollar store is not the way to go.

I would buy realestate, but I think my market is still over valued
its coming down though, little by litle, another few K, I might buy a revenue property.

Believe it or not, your soundest of investments is still real estate. I am not a big fan of bonds in a bad market. Of course, long term investments (IRA's, etc) are still viable. You're young. Ride it out.

good to read you again
your right

so, should I buy bonds that pay an anual payment interest payment, and reinvest that yearly, or compounding bonds, if the rate and term are the same?

Being a Judas Priest fan for 27 plus years, I don't think people understand them, they do there own thing they follow none. That's sets them apart from the rest (ie Iron maiden and metallica). They have and always will go where none dare to go!! So if you hated Turbo or Point of Entry then don't tell Painkiller rules cause not every album is going be as great as the last . I think Stained Class or Sin after Sin are better than Painkiller. But that's my opinion. But the newbies need to look at the whole picture. Not every album is going to be Painkiller.
[Deep Freeze] Thursday, June 12, 2008 11:41:00 AM
I think it is more than obvious that Mr. Ward is still craving attention. If you recall, he made inflammatory remarks many weeks ago and was called out on it then as well. This is not a person that anyone should consider a valid source of musical knowledge. We are not talking the R&D man at Sony here, people! This is a person that is simply looking for a reaction, and it appears there are many that are more than willing to oblige.

Look, if the guy does not like the album, fine. He has every right to his opinion! I can accept that there are probably many more just like him in this world. However, you will note that most of them do not come here to the official site and bash on the Band. Clearly, we have an attention seeker on our hands. Worse yet, we are lending him credence by responding!

I know there are many of you that have been members of this site long enough to have seen this schtick more than once. I can remember some that were actually intelligent and presented an argument worthy of debate. I fear that is not the case with young Mr. Ward. Further discussion or counter-argument with this individual is the mental equivalent of debate with an Australian bushman regarding the intricasies of compound interest and bond investment. It is simply a waste of your time!
[Return_of_Darth_Painkiller_0870] Thursday, June 12, 2008 11:25:01 AM
Sorry if it came across as bashing, Druzul.  However, as I previously stated, there already are threads regarding Nostradamus.  Instead of creating yet another thread about the same topic (Nostradamus), wouldn't it have been easier to post the link into an existing thread?  Again, I apologize for coming off harshly to you earlier.

You did a cool thing by posting the link and I shouldn't have bashed you.  My ire was directed more at the negative people who were bashing the CD and saying they now hate JP (but yet, they somehow think of themselves as fans????).

Druzul, I dont think your being atached for puting up a link, although, it probably would have worked beter to post it in an existing thread

also, just to clarify, my coments regarding people not being true fans were not directed at darth, they were directed at those who would abandon this band and "hate" them for one CD they dont like.
[Druzul] Thursday, June 12, 2008 11:15:04 AM
All I did was put up a link to Eddie Trunk review of the cd. Now I'm being bashed for trying to inform people.
[Head banger] Thursday, June 12, 2008 7:27:58 AM
I find it funny to say your a true fan, and hate the band because of one disk.  (well a double disk)
hell I dont care, but if you dont like the band, then toss all the other CD's you have
or send em to me, I need spares.
if you dont like nost, dont buy it or go to the nost show.  seems simple, you can still be a fan.  but to turn your back on the good because of one cd, thats just strange.

Well said, HB.  There are certain people creeping up on the boards lately who seem to be fans only when something the band does suit their tastes and hate the band when they don't care for what they put out whether it be a song or a CD.  The amount of mud they sling shows everyone their true colors.

thanks for the review.  I havent heard it, and wont untill I buy the CD on Tuesday.
and if anyone doesnt like it, fine, anyone who hates JP because of it cant call themselfs a true fan.  a former fan perhaps.  a true fan could dislike the CD, but not hate the band

BTW, Zan welcome back.

I'll start with the beginning and go song to song. (Note: I am reviewing because I think it needs to be done properly. And I want to get Priest fans pumped who haven't heard it.)

Dawn Of Creation -
Starts slow and slowly builds into an intense melodic rhythm that fits perfectly with the song it introduces. Very unique sounding and flawless.
10/10

Prophecy -
Pretty solid track. Holds previously built intensity pretty well. Solo section is Ram It Down Era awesomeness(I must note than the arpeggio lick before the harmony section of the solo is fantastic!) Rob's "freestyle" section in which he kind of narrates before the solo and after is pretty cool, backed by violins. And the part in which the drums drop out then start to build back up to the chorus with the deep voiced Nostradamus is lame as the chorus, but always gives me a smile, I love this song.
9/10

Awakening-
Slow acoustic intro for Revelations, fantastic vocals, interesting "bouncy" guitar effects.
10/10

Revelations-
What can you say about Revelations, one of the strongest from this album. Lyrics start out kind of iffy and in a slow pace. Rob builds it with harmonies, and the strings in the back keep this song layered. The bridge before the chorus is intense and the chorus is better than most Priest choruses have ever been. Top notch. This song has great changes, taking it to new heights.
Midway into the song it sounds like Priest are more getting experimental, which is a great thing.
The long drawn out sweeping solo is a disappointment, because it started out great. And it must be mentioned that the second solo tone(in the left channel) is a bit much. Very nasty sounding. But this song will keep you guessing and surprise you. And overall it is awesome.
9/10

The Four Horsemen-
Starts out like a church hymnal or something, But it redeems itself with neat orchestral elements that build.
7/10

War- Very theatrical song. Has lots of neat orchestral elements. Very powerful chorus, preceded by a mediocre, yet dark and nice in its own way verse. Lots of nice sound effects and buildup, then it climaxes in an awesome way. Note: For me, the vocals on this song are somehow out of time. Don't know how they missed this. My guess is the warlike marching beat is somehow to blame, since it isn't a typical hihat/ride beat.
7/10

Sands Of Time-
Pretty ballad with Rob demonstrating his fantastic vocal control, and showcasing his midrange. Lots of reverberation. It ends with a questionable note choice on Rob's Part. However, foreshadows well what is to come.
8/10

Pestilence and Plague-
Pestilence and Plague picks up and shows the band is still in top form. The intro riff has nice choir voice sounds. Don't really know how to describe them, but they add color to the riff. The verse is somehow a little weak, but the chorus fully makes up for it. The chorus is awesome! Rob sings BEAUTIFULLY. The Metal God at his best right here. The drumming is pretty spot on, fits the rhythm nicely. The solo section is probably the best from this album. Amazing leadbreak, tasteful and beatiful tonal quality. It goes into the chorus melody only with guitars and of course, strings in the background. The song doesn't end there, Priest shows off their dynamic abilities, then climaxes the song with the chorus. Beatiful Ending.
10/10

Death-
The album then takes a sudden dip to hell. And I mean that in a very good way. Messenger of DEATH! Doomy riffs(sort of) and dark vocals. Rob also shows he can still wail(not perfectly, but he gets up there.). Gotta love those evil arpeggios after the chorus.
Unexplainably good tempo changes and powerful melodic vocals later in the song make this song a classic, glad they are playing it live.
10/10

Peace-
Peace begins very soft but builds nicely.
Very memorable vocal melody, and the harmonizing acoustic guitars make this a perfect addition to the album.
10/10

Conquest-
Power Metal-type rocker with a deeper, much more awesome side. Rob hits a nice clean desert plains-type note at the end of the chorus. Weird arabian sounds in the second verse. The solo section is amazing and fresh. And after the solo is Rob's less typical growled midrange vocals, which sound fucking brilliant. (9/10, maybe ten, haven't given it enough listens.)

Lost Love-
Lost Love shows that Nostradamus's life can be related to. It's a typical love song, but still, its Rob Halford. The guitar melody sounds flawed, but still nice. Doesn't really go anywhere, but tells a genuine story. I like it. The women will love this one.
6/10
Persecution-
Once this one begins and you start to see where its going with the evil voice and such, you begin smiling. You know Priest is about to Clydesdale you in the balls. And they do, just in a much different way than you'd expect. Sounds like a Halford tune at first, but then mixed in with Priest's new eviler side. Not Painkiler like evil, its much much darker, and more genuine. In the background you hear Rob's piercing vocals. The Chorus is incomprehensibly evil sounding.
The song's opening riff is "painfully generic" as i've said before, but it goes far beyond this riff. There is some shit here that we've never heard priest do. Rob does some vocals that are reminescent of Freewheel Burning because of their sheer speed, but they are more melodious and intense. This song isn't easily comprehended, its absolutely massive, it supercedes this whole album. I dare say groundbreaking.
10/10

Solitude-
This song is full of emotions, and it isn't very long at all. Sounds very somber, and gives you the feeling of being alone and reflecting on life.
8/10

Exiled-
More unique vocals from Rob in the verse, and it sounds fantastic. This song was produced thoroughly, and with good results. Beatiful mixed clean and growled syllables in the chorus. Song goes back to Solitude musically for a little while, with added elements. Climaxes well with some fresh new music. Priest is really starting to push this style of music, and I can already see its influence.
10/10

Alone-
Starts so genuinely happy and exciting. It almost makes you want to cry.
It gets heavy with an awesome slow Priest riff. The chorus is great at first but when he screams "Left Alone!" I can't deny the questionable note choice. In other words, it sounds pretty bad, not completely awful(it grows on you). The song continues on, with an awesome rhythmic repeat of the beginning melody and lyrics. Other than the weird note choice for the harmony on "Left Alone!" It's another fresh, vibrant track.
8/10

Shadows in The Flame-
Name sounds like something Shadows Fall would come up with. This one strikes me as something Glenn kind of heard somewhere before and used it because he thought it fit with the emotional side of the album. Fits well with Visions, which I won't review for obvious reasons.
9/10, because it sounds damn good.

Hope-
Hope starts out like wtf, then kind of starts to sound like Lost Love. Really slow and different. No chances of being good on its own, like Peace, but its a good introduction to New Beginnings.
8/10

New Beginnings-
Absolutely gorgeous song, completely unlike anything Priest or any of Rob's bands have done. Does sort of sound like an 80s New Age band or something, but other than that minor reference, its pretty unique.
9/10.

Calm Before The Storm-
Starts out sounding like 2 stoners jamming guitars, but it has some class to it. Sorta.. It then changes completely. It adds a new level of intensity and epicness to Nostradamus, which I won't review. I love it, for its place on the album, but not so great on its own.
7/10

Future Of Mankind-
Wow. Fantastic. Bassline is masterful, drums are totally solid(nice fills at the end), guitars are decisively heavy. The verse is kind of annoying, but the section before chorus gets you nearly ready for the chorus, which is absolutely amazing. The chorus features rob's growled midrange again which is a candidate for best vocal performance of Rob's career. The beautiful harmonies that start nearly halfway into the song are a brilliant musical climax to the entire album.
The Album ends nearly like it began with Dawn Of Creation.
11/10.

Other Thoughts: Man who would have thought Priest would have made such valid musical and conceptual statement. Though some will hear this and not comprehend its greatness, because they won't give it a chance. It doesn't sound like "Priest" to them. I say, what DOES Priest sound like? I say this is it. Nostradamus rules.

I'll give it a bold 9.75/10 overall. Quirks here and there but it is brilliant altogether.

Okay, I haven't been a Priest fan for 20 or 30 years like most of you.  However, Druzul, creating your own thread to review the CD when there are already threads out there regarding it is wasteful and ridiculous.

Regarding the haters:  I think you guys are crazy.  Plain and simple.  Rob reminds me of the haters who used to frequent the noticeboard and harrassed Jayne when she was on here.  The reason that Judas Priest are saying to listen to the CD twice before forming your opinion on it, is simply because there is so much going on in it.  Personally, I've listened to it twice now, and I'm super-fucking happy as a pig in mud to hear something so melodious and well-written.  Halford's vocals are top notch and the band's music on the CD is more diverse and well-composed.

Rob Ward, you ramble way too much dude.  We get that you hate Judas Priest now.  So, just do us all a favor and leave.

I agree with Rob-

Believe me when I say I love Priest! I have all the cds seen many many shows over the past 25+ years. I was eagerly waiting for their new cd. I spent  a good amount of time last night listening to every song in its entirely on the cd via MTV's "Leak" *see JP news for many links to listen*. I have to tell you the quality of the production is good, the songs themselves are decent BUT we're talking about a band that prides themselves on making HEAVY METAL and this cd is not heavy metal-it's not even heavy!  In almost evey song(exception few) I found myself saying "COME ON, Let's Rock!" and it never happened until song 22, Nostradamus. if Priest wanted a "opera" feeling then do heavy metal with a "sprinkle" of opera VS opera with a sprinkle of heavy metal.

With that many slow songs can anyone honestly say they could go to a JP(nostradamus) concert expecting to bang heads & pump fists only to find themselves not rocking out and banging their head but instead just standing there or sitting down to listen to JP play the whole Nostradamus cd? Because out of 104 minutes you get about 70 minutes of ballads, slow intros,

Again I love Priest and will see them on 7/22 in Seattle- (for the umpteenth time) but "METAL" -"OPERA"  these two are a contradiction in terms and always will be. Can you mix a nice Merlot and Pepsi?? Sure but it won't taste good-neither does metal/opera! Unfortunately Priest made a great effort and a ok cd but it's not HEAVY METAL, it's not even heavy! I would rather listen to Turbo....at least it was semi hard rock all the way through.

Sorry to be blunt but I love Priest and that's why it's so disappointing...

I believe if anyone takes an honest listen to the "LEAKS" they'll come to the same conclusion.

[Rob Ward] Wednesday, June 11, 2008 9:40:55 PM

Not to ramble on here, but if I was Judas Priest I would stop people from being able to listen to this cd before they have the chance to buy it. I'll bet they cost themselves a couple hundred thousand dollars by letting people listen to it before they buy it. I would have gone out and bought it just because it was Judas Priest, but after listening to it they can forget it.

OH and Healer, you need not worry. If they're playing songs off this cd I won't waste my money. I suspect they'll need to stray away from these songs during the tour to help ticket sales, if they do that I'll buy a ticket.

One other thing, the fact that they are going out of their way to tell people to listen to the cd more then once to get a feel for it, tells me they that someone is telling them this cd is going to flop. It's probably the record company telling them that, but it sounds to me like they already know how it will be received.

I didn't start this thread; it was already up, I just happen to be the first one to post on it. I didn't see the other thread or I would have posted it there, this thread or that thread doesn't change that hate this CD.

It isn't just this cd, if you check my post I've been unhappy with Judas Priest last 4 or 5 cd's, AOR was ok, but everything since Turbo with the exception of Painkiller I didn't really care for except a song here and there. Face it dude this cd sucks, you can twist it all you want, opinion or not its god awful. Just like my original post suggests there's nothing entertaining about it, it's boring and music less. After 30 years as a Priest fan I have the right to agree or disagree, I can love and hate, it doesn't mean I'm  no longer a fan, I know they can do better they just didn't do it this time. They need to drop the death metal attitude and go back to writing good ole fashion Judas Priest Heavy Metal, and for the love of god never do another conceptual album, burry this one and lets pretend it never happen, just like they did with Tim Owens, we'll call it the "Nostradamus Year" We can put a button on the bottom of the navigation bar so all those that want act like this is something great from Priest can go there, while the rest of us that know better can continue to wait for Priest to come out with their new release. We can pretend there was some delay and that the record company screwed them over and we have to wait another year for the release. I'd much rather do that then to ever admit that My Favorite band of all time released something as horrible as Nostradamus.

[guidogodoy] Wednesday, June 11, 2008 9:20:48 PM
Ditto. I have not yet heard the album and refuse to do so until I have the time to do just as they have said in countless interviews: take the time to listen to it as a whole. Perhaps in a dark room.

Personally, I am most excited to hear the evolution of where the band is now. I want to see the whole package. I want to see the artwork as I am a big fan of the artist. I want to hear what the band members are so proud of having put together. Sure, it might not be my favorite album but I don't bloody well care. Kick the half-hearted to the curb. I am with you, Healer. Make more room for ME up front right next to you.

Well I can safely say that this is album is very good. I purchased a copy today from my local music store today here in Oz and it's great. There has been a few negative posts on this cd and they haven't even heard the whole album!

Whilst it is different from other priest stuff, why is that bad? I have been a priest fan for over 20 years and in that time they have toured Australia only once (with Ripper).

This album has all the great elements that make them great. Rob's voice is awesome and Glenn and KK are excellent. Whilst there are piano and orchestrations there is plenty of riffs and rockin songs.

Still not everyone can be pleased and we must all remember that Painkiller was released 18 years ago and the band has evolved.

I am sure that priest fans will love it. Just wait until you hear the WHOLE album.

[Healer] Wednesday, June 11, 2008 8:37:33 PM
You know, I really wasn't going to respond to this but just find I can't help it.  I don't care that you didn't like the new album.  Everyone has their oppinion.  But to say that you've been a devoted fan for 30 years and then say you "officially" hate Priest because of one album tells me you are NOT a true Priest fan. If you truely mean that you officially hate Priest well then good! One less person that won't be in my way as I make my way to the front of the stage to support the band that I have loved for 30 years and will continue to do so no matter what!

OK so everyone has their opinion as the story goes.. But did you really need your very own thread? What will you be telling us next Druzul that you wont be purchasing the CD. I have heard too many postitives on the new Priest CD from JP fans who respect and love everything they do. You could have easily posted in another thread and not left yourself out here because your "not in loop anymore". Yeah its dark and epic, has great texture and brillance but sheesh give it a chance, its not even released yet. Give Priest the respect as I and purchase it and enjoy just as I have for 30 years now. Every tour every album, due the math. Have you heard about their setlist on the current tour? Dissident Agressor, Eat Me Alive, Sinner, Rock Hard Ride Free are on it. If that don't get your blood pumping for JP, oh never mind... Why waste it on...If you bash the band like you did, dont expect to be making too many friends on this site. This is the Judas Priest website for the defenders of Judas Priest the band the music and what they represent as the true Metal Gods. Your not changing that with your little tirade buddy, take it somewhere else. MSyrup

One word describes this cd, “embarrassing” I haven’t listen to the whole cd but man, what is this some kind of joke? I absolutely hate it, The lyrics are stupid, the guitar tone is god awful, it’s completely music less, I know this is supposed to be an “opera” but the vocals are horrible, at this point and time I can honestly say I hate Judas Priest.

I grew up a hard core devote Judas Priest fan, I’ve been a fan for 30 years now but I am out of the loop with this cd. The only thing I can figure is this cd is meant for drug users and mush brained adolescences, it’s certainly not intended for music lovers. I have the cd playing in the background and I honestly have to stop typing and skip over songs they are so bad.

I know most of you will say, “Judas Priest always tries to do something different then they have done before.” But honestly man, is this something you would have playing at a party or some other sort of gathering? It’s useless for entertainment, there’s nothing there to even consider a song. No one can sit there and say yeah I like that song, or that song is my favorite, there’s absolutely nothing there. It’s a crime.

Better Luck Next Time Priest, You’ll Need It!!!
