| Now this is wierd, but not a mistake. Sometimes when finishing a phrase, I'll hammer on and pull off on the B string between the 5th and 6th fret. Then play the 6th fret on the G string ( C# / Dd ) then back to the B string 5th fret ( E ) and close it on the D string 7th fret ( A ). It's out of tune a bit, but it's quick and adds an exotic sound that I like. |

is one that I do and that I like. I only know this because I played just a minute ago. I`ll have to actually look at where I`m at on the board to put them down. I haven`t done anything creative (aka challenging and /or original) in so long I just follow what I`ve done for years over and over. Man! I need a challenge. This just may be what I need to go again!

One little trick that may come in handy. You can really turn the tables on people if you understand that if you are in the Key of G major you are, in essence, also in the Key of E minor. Three steps ( frets ) back and that's the relative minor key. Now that's when you start to make "Mary had a little lamb" sound like "Get on your knees and pray" !

Aha, so basicly if Im playing a certain scale with a root in (for example) G, then Im playing in the key of G. Well, that isnt all that complicated.
Not that I want to know all about music theory (which is as shitty as it is boring). Its just that the "keys" stuff is mentioned a lot in tabs, and I wanted to know whats it all about.

Think of keys as families of notes. Keys are a group of notes that work well together. Around this scales are created. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule. In many fusion / jazz applications the players will intentionally use notes that are technically "out of key" to create the effect of tension in the music or to lead the listener's ear to an intended "key change". It sounds really technical, but it's not. If you forget everything I just said and just play what you think sounds good, there is probably some place in music theory to justify it. I have the Seymour Duncan Distortion in the bridge and the Vintage Staggered in the neck of my BC Rich.I just rewired the guitar on Tuesday ,had a ground hum. All is good now.I love those ADA preamps,they are so versatile!!
Good choice on the power amp also. A tube is a tube,but the wiring in the chasuis is what makes the difference. Peavey has some grat stuff.i`m constantly watching E-bay for an older Script model 5150 head.
You mentioned the Classic 50, alot of older players seem to like that amp, Never played thru one that I can remember. The newer Valve Kings do have a good vintage tone ,but with a modern edge when using that A/B control on the power amp.
