no, not a plague. not sure, think they wanted to make sure they were not, or just keeping them away from farms. it is probably beter than random poison, but there are all kinds of other things we could try to kill off. dunno for sure.

You mean you pay people to kill the little buggers as they cross the line? How amazingly inept of government! Jesus Christ!, just put out rat bait on the border! Poor little rats! To be public enemey number one on border security is just plain pathetic! I feel sorry for them as I don't think they ever did anything to deserve that amount of control. Were they a plague at one time?????

Thanks guys...still feeling sad but Robin is still alive and sleeping in her little house now lol. She looks lonely but it is cruel to buy a baby rat and put it in with her.. too much age difference.
Spa, they are incredibly social and very loving pets. Over the years I've learnt to sort of judge when they need to pee or poop and have gotten pretty good at putting them down just before they need to go. I found that hamsters and mice are a lot less 'toilet trainable' than rats. They are so intelligent that they even get to know their names and respond to them so that is also one of the reasons it affects me so much when I loose one.

I absolutely love rats. They are very sweet creatures. If you could just cure the incontinence factor with them they would be perfect! They are very social and love to be held.

my mom used to have pet rats in england. cant have them here, the only rats permited in alberta are for medical experiments. otherwise we are rat free.

Woke up to a sad news this morning... one of our rats died during the night. I get so attatched to them and they don't have the longest life span to start with. She was around 2 years old and seemed in good health so it's a mystery to me. Her friend looks fine but I feel so sad for her bieng alone..
