Ahhhhh so it's the first time they've topped their group since 1930. Thanks Guids!

Best of luck to the USA when they face Ghana this Saturday. Just might go to the local bar after work to see that match.

Here...just to confirm what I already knew:

"It is the first time since 1930 that the U.S. won its World Cup group. On Saturday, the U.S. will play the second qualifier from Group D, Ghana, in the Round of 16."

Sorry...been rebuilding yet another computer. What fun.

To answer the question, Budred, you heard right. While Becks is right about the Semi's, the reference to the 1930s is also correct. It is the first time since the 1930s that the USA WON ITS WC GROUP! You aren't going deaf or crazy, Bud.

Not to take anything away from them but 1930 was the first official FIFA WC and only a dozen or so countries participated. Still, it was an upset then as well.

and if its that close the defender should have a shot at a decent defence.  the refs do a damn hard job quite well.  comentators need something to bitch about.  its like player blaming the weather or the pitch, its the same for both teams.  players bitching about the ref should get a yelow card first word.

LOL that's fair enough. I'm fortunate that I don't have work tomorrow, I'm on days off, so it won't hurt me too much, but poor old Craig will be bleary eyed in the morning at work LOL.

I guess I wont get to see the whole game. It finally came on and instead of the condensed version, since it was so late I guess they are going to show it all, but I can't stay up that late without falling asleep at my desk about 2:00 pm tomorrow. lol

Ah that sucks! We have highlights packages on for an hour before the news each night which is good. The games themselves are on in the middle of the night. No matter tonight cos I will be getting up for the 2am kickoff of NZ vs Paraguay! LOL!

I miss it all as its on when I'm at work. Was hoping to catch the condensed games tonight but NO a baseball game is on. That is like death by boredom to me. The only major leauge game I saw, I found the beer man in the stands and told him to keep them comming as the game bored me to tears. I also had my obnoxious Chicago cousin yelling non stop insults at the umpire. Never so glad for a game to be over. lol

Found it. The dude who 'scored' was offside. Fair enough call as far as I could see. The US player struck the ball, it hit the post and went back to him, by which time the dude was in an offside position. Not by much, but I think  it was a fair enough call.
[Becks] Wednesday, June 23, 2010 7:40:44 PM
I didn't see the disallowed goal and haven't heard anything about it - must find highlights video! Wonder if the Fifa.com video will show it - those highlights videos are way too short.

I was frankly amazed they squeked by today. Notice yet another disqualified goal.  I don't really care too much as the refs have all the say, but I do think what Strat said and I said about inernational sports is applicable, you sometimes have to think was that call biased motivated or a true call?
It does happen in the Olympics and would not supprise me to happen here. Not saying today's call was rubbish, but I do think it's time they backed up their calls with video. All sports do it. Seems way too old school not to. I'm sure HB will come in and tell me what for. I'm a namby pamby lol! HA!! But I was also pissed off tonight about the amount of time commercials now take up in commercial breaks here. Used to be two minutes two seconds, which is all the average human can stand. I timed a break at 3:30 on one show tonight and that is just pissing me off. Make it stop!!! LOL

Ahhh it's no biggie, the US have done well to get to the round of 16 considering they started shakily. Who cares about the past, focus on the next game I say LOL!

GUIDO?????
[Becks] Wednesday, June 23, 2010 6:26:24 PM
LOL fair enough. Wonder what it was that hasn't been done since 1930. I'm interested to find out now LOL!

And my bubble is popped.(LOL)
I have no knowledge of soccer, I was merely caught in a Patriotic moment because it involved Americans.
I'm probably the misinformed one. Heard it one way, interpreted it another
They did something today they haven't done since 1930.   ?????

Your commentators were misinformed. In the 2002 world cup, the US made it to the quarter finals, losing 1-0 to eventual finalists Germany.

Did any one notice that goal in extra minutes by the americans.
OK, so I'm not a soccer fan but I am an American. I watched the last 6 minutes of that game
and hearing the announcers talk about how they have not gotten out of the opening round since
1930 and how they needed a (near)miracle to pull it off and then watching them do it. Sorry, but that was
pretty exciting. Good job guys. Congrats!
