Riots in France for a week all because the government is going to raise retirement from 60 to 62. WTF!! They are allready spoiled enough. One month of Vacation time plus those additional National holidays, 35 hour mandated work weeks. They cry because they have to work two more years?
Anyone my age and below in the US cant reach full retirement until the age of 70 now, 40 hour work weeks are the norm if not more overtime, and Vacation time in most cases is cut at two weeks, half of us do not get sick leave, so many of us don't get company funded healthcare, and these people are crying over 2 years added to their retirement??!!!!
Maybe I'm just jelous of their extra down time, I know I'm jelous that I only hope to live to be 70 to retire, so then I can work part time someplace to subplement my non existent social security check. Edited at: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 3:50:44 PM Edited at: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 3:56:06 PM

Couldn't agree more - my son is 23 now - has one of those crippling debts u mentioned and cannae get a job anywhere! The chance of him getting housed is zero, mainly due to the amount of immigrants here - but thas another story - so i have this grumpy, unemployed lad with scads of qualifications going to waste...he HAS worked, but like u say - for peanuts...soon as he gets a job the government dock our benefits which we have to ask the boy to make up - is a no-win situation... It actually starts to make pension ages a little irrelevent, our generation will go from paying off our own debts to paying off our childrens (degree fees will be so high there is no earthly way they will be able to pay their own), so we will probably be working right up until they cart us straight from desk to nursing home.

I just hope Flora's local high school stays open long enough for her to graduate. If not, then I will be forced to drive her to school each day to Bland High and that would really mess up my routine. This bus now travels up to 3 hours one way in it's duty. So, I am really curious to know how many miles are on it.
Well, I guess I'll just have to ask Flo how many miles the bus had on it when it was retired from "regular" service. Better yet! I'll get Flora to ask her!

Now, at what point of that mileage to you think they retire the bus from school duty and leave it to slug it way out on church and civic duties?

It's the name of the county. Bland. Great right? HA!!!
I would be happy to have her finish out her days as a Rocky Gap High girl. And no,..... I wouldn't leave a stray dog at the site the school has designated as her "bus stop". We live on a dead end road so they considered it too difficult for the bus to turn around in this area, although if they got rid of the 18 wheeler who parks there 5 days out of 7 the bus could do a loopty on her stop and pick her up at her home.
Very smart move about not leaving a girl alone at such a stop! Two things strike me as sad about such a situation: first, that you have to worry about such things alone and second that too many idiot parents DON'T!
Seriously, though....the school is called "Bland High?!" HAAAA!!!! Surely, there must be a "Spicy High" somewhere. Both might go to "Podunk U" after.

Actually that bus works daily. Since the sports teams have been combined to a county wide senario since they don't have enough kids in the county for each school to have their own sports teams. So, the bus does get a workout. But I suppose highway miles are way better.
I just hope Flora's local high school stays open long enough for her to graduate. If not, then I will be forced to drive her to school each day to Bland High and that would really mess up my routine. Her bus stop is not safe. She would have to stand on the main road through our little town which is just a 20 foot turn from the interstate, and she would be the only child standing at that stop. NOT going to happen.

So here's a mini review of Metallica finally, after a busy few days lol! They opened with two tracks from Death Magnetic, which were pretty good, but for me the highlight was For Whom the Bell Tolls. Other oldies they played included Seek and Destroy, One, And Justice for All, Master of Puppets. The special effects they had were excellent - my friend and I were a fair way back in the seated area (with a good view) and could feel the heat coming off the flames they had occasionally. There was heaps of lasers and other nifty stuff, and coffin shaped lighting rigs that moved around. Plenty of idiots at the gig too, and plenty of people who were there just cos it was Metallica. Reason I could tell this with one dude is as follows - as anyone who has been a 'proper' fan of Metallica would know, the Bay Area thing pops up often. One of the t-shirts at the merch cart had Bay Area on it. A young dude (maybe 17?) was standing next to me and said 'Ba area??? What's that? I don't think it's Bat Area??' then someone finally explained to him it was Bay Area. Hmmm, lol. Anyways, the gig was great, the best bits involved the oldies, but overall it was worth the money and I am glad I went. Seen as Craig missed out I bought him a tour shirt and posted it to him

Yes!!!! Only weird thing will be not seeing the rest of Judas Priest. No Glenn, Ian, Scottie, KK. It'll be interesting to see see how the Metal God performs with his solo band compared to Judas Priest. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Becks from Saturday, October 16, 2010 12:14:52 AM)

Yep they're from the Bay Area - there was a well known bootleg EP out called Bay Area Thrashers, with recordings from when Dave Mustaine was still in the band. I only said 'proper' fan cos I couldn't think of how I wanted to put what I meant, LOL!!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Vaillant 3.0 from Friday, October 15, 2010 11:28:57 PM)

Oh man that is a terrible chain of events! Computer problems are always a pain in the behind, I am still trying to save up for a new laptop after unsuccesfully trying to fix my old one for over a year. I am lucky to have never had anything stolen (despite all the CDs and video games I own as well as other valuables!) though I am always as vigilant as possible. Well it can only get better from here and I hope you get well from your throat infection! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by kiamat from Wednesday, October 13, 2010 10:17:27 AM)

We kept getting beat offensively almost the whole game and we almost came back to win too. Ah well at least we are still doing well this season though our schedule will soon be hell when we face some of the stronger Pac-10 opponents such as Oregon and Stanford (both on the road too). I also had Monday off too thanks to Columbus Day giving me more time to relax. That's whats happening with me. Hope everyone had a good weekend too and I want to hear how everyone else is doing!

My weekend was great! Mainly because I bought my ticket to see Halford in Anaheim this December!!! Can't wait!!!!!

Overall my weekend was great and but now I have to go to a podiatrist (foot doctor) to fix an ingrown toe nail that is bad on both sides but fortunately on only one big toe. I have to get there at least 15 - 20 minutes early to get some paperwork done since I am a new patient with this doctor (just like this morning for the checkup) and then have to get a little procedure done. Plus I have to take antibiotics for a week but that's not too bad so far.
Hope everyone has a great week and let me know how everyone else's weekend went!

Cheers guys, mum is keeping me informed. He's having tests done now, he's conscious but can't talk (the only word he can say properly is NO, lol), his right side is shaky etc, and he looks really vacant apparently. Waiting to hear more news soon.
Vail - Craig is gone for 6 months this time. That's standard deployment length for the NZ army etc.

Aww hell yeah dude. I'll be sure to put a complete review of the whole concert ASAP. Most likely when I get back to work on Monday for Sunday will be to recuperate and watch PPV Wrestling on TV.
You guys are going to love Rob Zombie. I saw him twice this summer and I thought he was
badass live. The second time it sounded like his mike was too loud for a few songs but after that
they rocked. The guitar player is the shit and you'll love his solo. Also, the stage show is very
theatrical. Lots of fire, explosions, video monitors, and assorted creatures walking out on stage.
(Remember), when concerts were a good time(?), this is one of them. After you guys go, put a review up.
I'm curious as to what you thought of him.

Good morning and happy friday everyone! Just checking the board to see how everyone's doing. In a couple of weeks we are getting new work computers over here (FINALLY!) and now we have to learn through some online programs how to use Microsoft Office 10. Pfft, this is easy for me anyway though at least my brain is at least being stimulated somewhat and not just sitting in a daze while I toil away in the warehouse or microfilming area.

Only sad part is that the MSU coach had a heart attack after the game. Yeouch!
Oh yeah I saw the highlights for that game. That was a beautiful trick play at the end. I am surprised one of my neighbors, who is a Notre Dame grad from 1956, didn't have a heart attack watching that game. Honestly we almost had a heart attack from Iowa's comeback in the 4th quarter but our QB just shrugs off the interception and leads us 70 yards for the soon to be game winning TD. Then we sack the crap out of Stanzi on their comeback drive and it was all over.

Thank you, one and all! Its always so nice to see I have such wonderful friends here on this Board. Reminds me of days long passed. I do check occasionally but really just have not felt the desire to post. I appreciate all the PMs from you guys. Good friends all...
As mentioned, I am just very busy with the band and caring for the Princess and myself. The band thing really gobbles up my free time. We play a lot and practice constantly. Add to that the time it takes to work on new music and you can clearly see that there is VERY little time left to chat! We did manage to take a short vacation in August to the beach (I believe I posted a pic or two?) but, other than that, we are just SO busy. The Princess' youngest has moved out and we are ONCE AGAIN enjoying the bliss of a "child-free" home. For THAT, I am truly grateful! HAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
I think the Princess is going out of town this coming weekend. Her and her sisters are going to the condo down in San Diego for an "All Girl" trip. Read into that what you will... HA!!!!!!! I have a show on Friday so I will be laying VERY low during her absence. Kind of looking forward to it, really. Just me and the cats... Well, you are all up to date, as it were. My love to you. My continued distain to the other...

So, read the earlier work before the prequel, huh? It does make sense now that I think about it. An author would most likely only do a prequel if one of his books becomes a hit among his readers and pieces missing in it need to be filled or things need to be explained. Plus, it wouldn't make sense to do a prequel if it doesn't have an established base to begin with.
Well, back to the bookstore I go. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

Read the one the Author wrote first. It's probably the most interesting of the two. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Vaillant 3.0 from Sunday, September 12, 2010 7:36:33 AM)

Anyway, right now I have a tiny dilemna on my hands: three months ago I bought a book written by an author that was recommended to me by a TA at school. Just recently I decided to wiki the author to find out more about him and his works. Turns out the book I bought is a prequel to another book he wrote years earlier.
So...what should I read first? The prequel or its predecessor (heh)? Any ideas?

I say the FIRST book if you haven't yet read the prequel. Sounds really more like Silence of the Lambs than Star Wars. No real desire either.
Reading a later novel before the first will distort how you view the second in the temporal order in which it was composed. So there is MY vote...read the first he wrote.

Any ideas?

I'd go with the prequel but that's just me... Then again.. Star Wars.. Feck, I hate having to make decisions like this... Ok how about you put both books in front of you mix them around with your eyes closed and then just point to one, when you open your eyes you read whichever one you ended up pointing to.. no cheating allowed! Shocking new 3D speed bump illusion of girl crossing the road that suddenly 'appears' in front of drivers
By Niall Firth
Last updated at 4:08 PM on 8th September 2010
It sounds like a terrifying experience that would make even the most seasoned of drivers panic or even crash.
But a school in Canada is using a bizarre 3D optical illusion of a young girl crossing the road to try and make drivers slow down.
The image of a girl chasing after a ball is painted on the road and elongated to make it appear three-dimensional when seen from an approaching car.
The image of a girl rears up out of the road to alert drivers to their speed
Critics say that the child’s image could surprise drivers so much that they will slam on the brakes or even swerve off the road if they do not realise the girl is just an illusion.
At a distance it just looks like a marking on the road but when the car is 30 metres away it appears to suddenly rise up from the road.
When the driver is closer than 30 metres the image appears to sink back into the road.
If a car is travelling at the speed limit for the road, 30km/h, then he should be able to stop in time before he reaches the image.
Safety experts say the alarming image is designed to teach drivers to always be prepared for the unexpected.
The illusion is to be placed on the road outside École Pauline Johnson Elementary School in West Vancouver in Canada and will be accompanied by a sign which reads: ‘You’re probably not expecting kids to run into the road.’
Council bosses in the area say that the illusion will encourage drivers to drive defensively, as though a child could run out into the road at any moment.
