That is kinda odd, eh? Then again, neither the Palace nor Silverdome nor PINE KNOB are really are really in Detroit. Now HARPO's! There we are talking! I've told the story before but I absolutely flipped when I heard Halford. Don't remember where or when but I was living in East Lansing, MI at the time. Resurecction came on and I almost had a heart attack. Bought the CD within an hour and was online shortly thereafter to find out what I had been missing. To my surprise, they were doing all international gigs and then....Harpos?!? That is my corner bar in Detroit! AMAZING! I could't find a soul who could make it so I took my little bro. He didn't know a single song but quickly learned when he saw how packed the place got and how wild the crowd went when Halford took the stage.
Caught Metal Mike's pick that night. Again, I've said this before but I do regret having run up and over the guy in front of me to snag that sucker out of the air! LOL!!!!!!!!!
Cobo, though, is a pretty lost cause. Car shows, electronic shows (still have the dual tape deck I bought there!) are all it can really attract. Nope. Missed all "Ultimate Fighting" there. I do have the bootleg of that Harpo's concert though....that count? HAAAAA!!!
Oh yeah, before I forget and lose my nerve...I DO remember what I was doing during Y2K. Now that you mention it, I wasn't in Detroit. I was in Vegas! Easy mistake to make as Uncle Ted always did a New Year's bash as a regular event.
Anyone else remember the guy that got across the Canadian border to the north (as opposed to MI where Windsor is actually to the south) with a truckload of explosives? Security in Vegas was TIGHT! After doing a massive code run in FORTRAN (caused the whole Y2K problem), I drove from Tempe, AZ to Vegas. Saw the fireworks at the (then) newly constructed Paris and....ok, brace for it....saw Barbara Streisand the following night! LOL!!! My aunt who lived there got me tix and, as they were industry, I couldn't sell them.
You know, ol' Babs put on a damn good show! It was released on DVD as the New Year's concert but it was really the day after. Shhhhh.....HAAAAA!!!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Budred from Thursday, March 11, 2010 6:58:14 PM) Edited at: Thursday, March 11, 2010 11:20:49 PM |

That's cool that both concerts I attended in Detroit you went to also.
I went to one other event in Detroit. Tell me if you went to this also.
In May of 96' I went to Ultimate Fighting Championship 9 at Cobo Arena.
They had it before the Supreme Court trying to ban it the very day of the event.
I didn't even know at the time. Imagine driving 5 or 6 hours only for it to be canceled. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by guidogodoy from Thursday, March 11, 2010 2:05:17 PM) | | guidogodoy wrote: | | I was there too ya bastich! I was even in a box seemingly right next to you.

Everyone(media/print) was reporting doom and gloom. Religious nuts
were predicting the world's demise. So what did I do?
My wife and I (under protest from her family) drove 350 miles to the
Pontiac Silverdome for Metallica, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, and Sevendust.
I can only guess at the size of the crowd but Mtv reported it was like the 2nd or 3rd
largest Y2K event in the country. Here's a picture of the crowd.Probably 40 or 50,000.
There are more people to the right of the picture and above.

The mustache comments are hilarious. As soon as I read them I rubbed my stache
and started laughing! For the record, the hair is much shorter and the stach is much thinner.(LOL)
Back then that was my short hair. Up until then I could reach behind my back and grab my hair.

Glad to hear it. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Budred from Thursday, March 11, 2010 5:16:45 AM) | | Budred wrote: | | My last rant wasn't about me being a victim. I was expressing anger about myself
not allowing me to be myself. I referred to my initial appearance as the number one reason.
The last time I posted pictures it caused others to argue(discuss) Ripper. I was thinking here we go
again so I deleted (all) of them. No pictures, no arguments. After I thought about it I came to the conclusion
that I'm just being a p*ssy and decided f*ck that. I'm sick of not being me. I came to the same conclusion
that you all have. That first incident is behind me and I'm not going to worry about what I post anymore.
I am going to be myself. I will not personally attack or antagonize anyone and I will try to give thought to what I post,
but I'm not going to cower anymore. As far as saying "I just want everyone to like me" I'm not sure where you
got that from because. If you read what I wrote then you would see that I said "I don't care if anyone likes
me anymore or not." That was the biggest part of the problem. That's the part I want to change. I was constantly
backing down to appease everyone. Screw that. This is three posts now all stating pretty much the same thing.
I can't explain it any differently.
| | jimmyjames wrote: | | Yeah, For fucks sake. Stop playing such a fucking victim all the time. All this "I just want everyone to like me for who I am" shit is wearing thin. Just say what you want to say and if anyones offended that's their problem. So what if you came across as a tool when you started, no-one gives a fuck now. You're the one that keeps bringing it up. "Hey I'll just put these photos in X thread so if anyone's not interested it's not going to upset them and they won't have to come down on me like a tonne of bricks". Jesus Christ man, you've got just as much right to say whatever you want as anyone else. Stop acting like such a blouse. |

The only thing left from the tour tee below.
It's starting to look a little rough, I should have backed off a little with the camera.

I went to the show early and waited by the buses. It was a club show,
so they were parked right in front of the venue. Vinny and Dime were so cool.
Phil not so much. They all signed and took pictures though so it's all good.
