For me it was AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Priest, Motorhead, Sabbath etc. I can't think of any bands that would fit into that definition of Eurotrash except maybe Roxette. Have you heard of them, the y sing that shocking song "The Look".

You really want to go back there? Well...Eurotrash is an American term to usually applied to determine  really bad techno-rock. Comes from Europe, normally.

Wish I had a video in mind to back this up...www.urbandictionary.com/define.php

HAAAAAAA!!!!! Thanks for clarifying. That could have been interpreted in a number of ways. "Are you on the dole" LOL!!!!!

Kapa haka is the style, the language is Maori - don't worry I don't understand what they're saying either LOL!
NO JJ I was not on the dole

WOW! I thought both were great. "Kapa hapa" the language or the style?

I watched both vids and, ableit the languange problem, cannot sat that the second one looked just like Chilean national music. A "casique" (or warlord) leading the chant.

Great stuff...again. I really do appreciate you sharing a bit of a place i'd LOVE to visitt (and will).

LOL yeah, when we were made to do it at school it annoyed me, now that I'm not forced in to it, I don't mind it too much. I remember in 3rd form I got a distinction certificate for Maori studies, not sure how I managed that.

No not really, most of the musical influences come from outside. The metal scene here is pretty healthy considering the size of the country population wise ( 4 million ).  We have no decent metal bands of note that are doing much locally or internationally.

With regards to a national type of music, the closest we probably have hear would be pasific music - hip hop with pasific beats to it. That and kapa haka stuff, which is the music and singing of the indigenous people, the Maori.

No harm taken.....do you have a national music, though? Spain = flamenco, for example.

I am really curious. I knew a few people from NZ who were great but didn't have a single Metal band to mention to me. Thus, my only reference. Any national favs or Metal nationals would be most appreciated. I mean, you'd have to go to Portugal to understand fado music. It is beautiful.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by jimmyjames from Tuesday, December 29, 2009 2:20:57 PM)

From what I've seen, there's pockets of metal fans around the place, but not really any NZ metal bands or major metal scene around unfortunately - the best hard rock type band NZ has produced is a band called Shihad (their early stuff anyway, the General Electric is one album which was pretty good). There is a thrashy type band here called 8 Foot Sativa but I think they suck lol. Also some people may consider a band called Blindspott (sp?) metal, but I don't really think so, not much of a fan of them either. We do have what people call bogans here, I've been called one before cos I selected some metal to play on a jukebox at a function LOL! The music you see around the most is hip hop, which I personally can't stand. I always smile when I see kids walking around wearing a Motorhead, Iron Maiden, or any other classic metal band shirt - going a bit against the grain of what is popular here, keeping the heavy metal faith.

The music scene in NZ is pathetic. I understood what you were getting at before and I wasn't criticizing, just messing around.

I'd actually hope that you chime in here, Becks. Let me say that I don't mean to disrespect ANY country (heck, I travel too much to do such a thing), but am I right iin my assertion that there isn't much of a metal scene in NZ? If I am wrong, please turn me on to some bands.

Unleashed in the East....so spot on awesome. The ripper, victim of changes live...nothing better!

It was cancelled due to logistics, JJ. It was going to cost too much to freight everything here for one show at the time, which was in the middle of the recession or whatever you want to call it.
I still hope Priest get here one day, I'll be forking out for the best tickets possible.
