Deportation of a U.S. Citizen. HA! Well, since you have no actual country to be deported to, I suppose they'll have to send you to one of our many tropical U.S. owned paradises. Pick Virgin Isles.
That selling coconuts by the sea dream could have been within your reach if you played your cards right.

Best part was that I had to sign away my rights to be deported if I lied. Where the hell would they deport me to?!? Guantanamo?! Haiti?!? HAAAAA!!!!
At least the "aduanero" had the sense to crumple it up and throw it away before I could make a comment. Growing up so close to Canada, you learn quickly that they have NO sense of humor. Especially at 4am when I passed through.

Diving off the island of Utila, Honduras, compadres. Roatan last year was cool but this is just a little slip of an island surrounded by coral reefs. What a blast! Talk about an island paradise. Long commute including a cessna plane / sweat bucket with props but worth the trip!
Hope to see some whale sharks this time around!

Oh, I have a ton but just not from this trip. You can go up to Corcovado (the statue of Christ) but just to the platform - not a hollow statue like the Statue of Liberty, for example. You can also go up Pão de Azúçar. Been to both a few times in the past - once for me and another when I had a friend come to run the Rio marathon. Usually, you do both attractions the same day as they are in Rio. The pictures I posted are from across the bay and it is a long commute thanks to the traffic. The trifecta of attractions is to include the infamous stadium, Maracaná. You normally have to hire a driver as the drug lords rule the spots, especially the drive up to Christ, and kidnappings and random violence are not uncommon.
I'll dig up some old pictures when I get a chance. The statue is absolutely huge. Keep in mind that those shots are from across the bay and that gives you an idea. The museum is on the side of Niterói. Corcorvado and Pão de Azúçar are WAY off in the distance 25-30km at LEAST.

Yes, ol' Cristo Rey is due for a touch-up soon (planned for next year, I believe). They even saved some of the original stone.
I would really like to see how they do it. Super Duper Glue? Heck, I wonder where they keep all this unused rock!

Ice forms from the waterfall spray in mid-air. Really kewl but made for dangerous climbing both up and down. Catch one of those ice tubes in the grooves of a boot / shoe and you'd find the quick way down over the jagged rocks which were already covered in moss. Insanely slick surface until you make your way out of the waterfall spray. Then? Just bake on the rocks!
Highly recommended trip for anyone who likes nature and aggressive hikes. About 6 state parks in driving distance.

Beautiful. Just looked it up and Victoria is only listed as 108m. Iguaçú is listed as max of 82m. However, as I just learned, it was named as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.

Not that I don't love Niagara but you have, basically, three waterfalls that are cut short by a series of locks due to the erosion that the full flow caused. Thus my comment and vote that they should open up the TRUE waterfall at least one day a year.
Still, nothing beats Iguaçú. The Paraná is bigger and the falls are unbelievable. Put that together with a crazy Brazil-based, throw caution to the wind, twin Johnson motor ride into the "caldera" or full flow horseshoes, and there is no comparison. Anyone have the means to get there in a lifetime? GO!!! Only take the boatride if you are a trusting person. The force of the water puts the Maid of Mist to shame as does the entire experience of Iguaçú.

When you get up close from the bottom you really get a sense of just how powerful the falls are.

yep. I was there for work, and since its so pricy they said we needed to share rooms. Fucking bullshit. so I bitched and said that I would stay at a motel down the road. so when one of our group couldnt attend due to a death in the family I ended up rooming alone. then I found that after a certain pay grade you got your own room and bitched. shortly thereafter we changed the policy and dont share rooms now [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by METALMANJP from Tuesday, October 08, 2013 9:26:46 AM) | | METALMANJP wrote: | | Yes, I could have sat there all day watching the Falls.
