german thrash rules. Its a lot angrier sounding that American thrash metal. Pleasure to kill, persecution mania and infernal overkill are all very epic thrash metal albums. Personally I've always loved the band tankard

On the last  number of Rock Hard magazine in Germany is included the Kreator Live Cd during the RH festival of summer 2010. Great

Damn straight! I have that covers album somewhere in my collection. A lot of the cover albums have good ones but also some terrible covers as well. But that is definitely one of the best!

[J.D. DIAMOND] Thursday, December 10, 2009 5:16:43 PM
Hey Craig,I just recently heard of this band, that album "Beware" was released in 1989,oldschool thrash, yeah its not bad at all.Better than "Circus Of Power"...no? LOL! Just joking Craig!! lol!!!

That song made me laugh out loud, because you're correct: the singer really sounds like a mix of Paul Di'Anno and Thomas G. Warrior. It's a good track. I like it. It sounds better than Last Entertainment. I will check out the other songs on R.I.P.

Has anyone ever heard of the thrash metal band "Shah"? They're from Russia. A friend recommended them. I didn't know a damn thing about Russian thrash metal and expected the worst, but I think they're quite alright. This song was released right before the Soviet Union collapsed:

I love Punishment For Decendance. Unfortunately, that's the only Coroner album I've ever heard. But I love that album enought to consider Coroner one of the better bands of the 80's. I would love to hear R.I.P.! After X-mas I'm splurging on some old school shit that I either never heard or haven't heard in 20 years!
[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, December 09, 2009 3:52:43 PM

Actually Craig, that song "Last Entertainment" is from the band's 3rd album,in my opinion it is not a good representation of this band, but thats only my opinion.I only like the first album "R.I.P." from 1987...after this album they "changed thier style". Listen to this track "Reborn Through Hate"...skip the intro and start this track at the 1:26 mark...thats where track # 2 comes in and is the first full length track on the album.

This is Coroner's strengths. This is why I posted they remind me of a cross between old Iron Maiden's vocalist Paul Di'Anno and Tom G.Warrior of Celtic Frost, and actually some of these riffs, again not all of them but some of these riffs even remind me of Iron Maiden mixed with Celtic Frost.A great debut album and is Coroner's best LP by FAR.

I never realized Coroner was from Switzerland. I always thought they were German for some reason.
[Craig Wagenhoffer] Wednesday, December 09, 2009 11:28:37 AM

Very strange stuff. They have an "evil" sound. The vocals are quite unusual as well. Not a typical thrash band, but I like what I heard.

   CORONER                                        R.I.P.                                              1987

Yeah Steve,Coroner are from Zurich Switzerland as you know, however they were very important to the German thrash scene because not only were they good, but they had ties with Tom of Celtic Frost to boost thier name as well as Tom G.Warrior wrote the "Spiral Dreams" track#7 off of the debut album "R.I.P."  in 1987.  Boy this album is "UNDERRATED" BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To me,Ron Royce's voice reminds me of a cross between X- Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di'Anno and Tom G.Warrior of Celtic Frost, and some of the riffs not all of them, but some of them remind me of Iron Maiden as well. I'm not to big on anything they released after this debut album but I will say along with you Steve that this band especially this album kicks serious balls and should be picked up by everyone who loves thrash metal. A+ in my book.

Sifringer's riffs circa 84-90 are almost unmatched. Destruction for me.
[Steve Forrest] Tuesday, December 08, 2009 3:27:36 PM
Painkiller, you forgot to add Coroner to the name of this thread. They were just as good, if not better, than the other 3, and just as important in the German thrash scene of the 80's.
[jimmyjames] Saturday, December 05, 2009 4:41:44 AM
Yup, The Metallica versions are fuckin ridiculous. Have you ever seen Sodom?

I don't think Tom's voice sounds "dorky" at all.Maybe your not into thrash, its not for you so be it. And I thought the Metallica versions were lame, just not for me,so be it eh? lol!

It's ok JD but to me Lemmys voice is a crucial part of what makes Motorhead the band they are. That dorky kraut accent kind of ruins it. If you check out that Best Motorhead Tribute thread, that band sound a bit like Lemmy as well, it's pretty cool. What do you think of Metallicas tribute to Lemmy on his 50th when they recorded Overkill, Damage Case, No Class and Stone Dead Forever?

Warrant - The Rack. This is excellent German thrash/speed metal (1985). They remind me of early Metallica:
