ABOUT THE BEST JUDAS PRIEST ALBUMS....
In my opinion,a true fan of Judas Priest, can't say that an album is more good than another, cause in fact every album have such unique in his own way,so a fan can say that an album is just different than other, and of course then the fan can like an album most than other.
In my opinion of fan but musician too,i think that untill to Painkiller,my favorite was Painkiller, but there came Angel Of Retribution and this became my favorite, and then became Nostradamus and this became my favorite,so how its to see,its obviously that in my eyes their music grown with every album, but because these three albums can't be compared between them, cause Painkiller is the most heavy of their albums, but easy to understand from musical and lyrics point of view, then Angel of Retribution is closed of a heavy opera album and little hard to understand from the musical point of view, and Nostradamus definetly a heavy opera album, and the most hard to understand from the musical and lyrics point of view,i think all these three are my favorites.
But the all albums are good in fact, cause in every album we find some good songs.
But the most original remained also...
Their first cornerstone
Into building their empire
That
Rocka Rolla

I think most albums have a weak (or corny) song or two - well, compared to the other killer stuff on there. Defenders is a rare exception.

Agree with you. Listening Rocka Rolla and Nostradamus via Painkiller or Angel of retribution seems to listen three/four different bands. This is why they are the best. They don't have always the same sounds, or the same guitar or something else. To decide the best priest album is impossible just for what stated before. For me depends on the mood of the moment. Now, for example, is a particular period in which I'm very busy, so I like to listen pure metal, very heavy, so painkiller or british steel, o Screaming for vengeance. When I'm more relaxed I like Sin After Sin or Sad Wings of Destiny and Rocka Rolla, for example (also other bands and other kind of music). Judas Preist music allow you to do it, metallica for example not. They are always the same. Once you listen an album you listened all. Good Albums, no problem to admit it, but really few differences.
But if I have to decide and chose an album, I mention Sad Wings of destiny. Staind Class. It may not contain all of their best songs but for sheer strength by numbers
it can't be touched. Invaders can go but every other song on that album is badass. |

It has to be Unleashed In The East. From start to finish that album rocks with the best songs Priest had to offer at the time. The remastered version is even better than the origional release. Not one dorky, cheesy song !!! |

Stained Class is indeed flawless - I can't think of a thing wrong with it either. The songs have awesome lyrics, they have a meaning. Unlike Turbo which is corny as LOL! I love DOTF so that's my second equal place with SFV. I like Night Comes Down, so I enjoy the whole album, so it's quite a close second IMO. SFV is the album that spends the most time in the CD player of my car lol - the weakest song on that album for me is Pain and Pleasure, but I still like the song. Painkiller is actually tied up there too for me. It's an awesome example of kick ass heavy metal. But I agree, Leather Rebel is a bit of a dorky song. Killing Machine is another awesome album, haha I like Evil Fantasies! For me Take On The World is the weakest song on the album, although it does get stuck in my head occasionally. But like I said, seen as I can think of no faults with Stained Class, I also think it's the best Priest album. I may have Priest albums I play a bit more, but Stained Class is a true classic. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by jimmyjames from Wednesday, February 17, 2010 3:22:58 AM) | | jimmyjames wrote: | | I've been thinking about this a lot lately. There are two that I think are top of the pile. Stained Class and Painkiller, if I had to pick one over the other Stained Class would get it by half a point just because the song Leather Rebel on PK is a bit dorky and the lyrics on Nightcrawler are stupid. I think Stained Class is one of Priests most varied efforts, the lyrics are cool, it has a dark atmosphere to it, Halfords vocals are his best on any album in my opinion, awesome musicianship, it has the best and most interesting cover and most importantly no bad / corny songs. I can't think of anything wrong with it. It epitomises what metal should be. A true classic of all time. The other album that gets a look in is DOTF, that gets third place due to the fact that Night Comes Down is melodramatic and weak, the rest of the album is awesome. British Steel is awesome but United and Living After Midnight are cheesy. SFV is cool to but loses marks for Chains and Pain And Pleasure. HBFL is let down by Evening Star, Take On The World and Evil Fantasies and SWOD misses out because of Prelude ( waste of time ), Epitaph and Island Of Domination. So therefore due to the fact that it is absolutely flawless Stained Class is the greatest Priest album of all time. |

Take that back, I was on a Nostradomus high. I personally think that Defenders of the Faith is their best Album overall. Their most overrated albums are - Screaming for Vengeance, British Steel, Painkiller. I love those albums, but people forget that Priest made other great albums too. The Most underrated albums are - Turbo, Ram It Down, Demolition. Just my opinion. I am sure everyone else has one. |

Well that is a great point, 'Child. I guess I have a two part answer. For me, Unleashed in the East had the greatest impact on ME, even though I had been listening to Priest for years. But if I had to pick one album that really stands out, I suppose it would be British Steel. That album really did the most for the Band, as far as I can see. I think Painkiller probably has the most "great songs" on it but I think BS really put the Band into the public eye and was a HUGE turning point as far as their popularity. |

I don't think i am fit to answer which is the "greatest" in the sense that i wasn't there when these albums where being released. Meaning i have no idea what impact these albums had when initially released. So my decision is being based on retrospective, i am looking at all of the albums they have done over the past 30+ years...And in my mind the album(s) that stand out the most are "Stained Class" and "Sin After Sin" - These are the 2 albums that i play the most.. This era of Priest does something special for me, which is very hard to put into words. It has something to do with the rythym, flow, groove, style of the music. It has so much feeling to it..gosh i feel like a fumbling 5 year old grasping at words to describe it.

Judas Priest is always Judas Priest - no matter what they've done - versatile and innovative at all times. That's what makes them so special. The band constantly evolves - not many other bands have the guts to do that - it's a risk - but it's a brave risk... That's what makes answering this question so hard.
For me it has to be British Steel. A simple album - straight forward - heavy in a new way - pounding drums, fast screaming guitars - for me it created not only the NWOBHM but set standards for the genre that are still up to date!

I love Sin after Sin and Sad Wings of Destiny, though Defenders and Nostradamus have probably had the most listens over the years (months for Nostradamus). The more I listen to it, the more impressed I am. I didn't think much of the song Death, but now, it's as though the messenger was once a vocal virtuoso, but now twisted and demented, bringing chills down your spine. Monstrous CD! |

Painkiller
Painkiller is and always be Judas Priest's greatest album. It's Priest at their Purest. Not one bad or boring song on this album, balls to the walls, like an upbeat version of Screaming For Vengeance. |
