As I posted the pic with John 5 on the cover, I pulled the mag and re-read the article. Deserves a post.
From "Vintage Guitar" (Nov 2014). Rob's closing remark about ROS: "The songs were absolutely colossal, and the tour (Epitaph) had a classic vibe, from 'Never Satisfied' all the way up to 'Nostadomus.' So that was in us before we started to write. I think this (ROS) is probably the best example we've ever made of what the pureness of the Priest metal music is truly all about. From my thinking, this is the best way this band has ever represented itself."
Fav songs of Richie? "Halls..," "Cold.." and "Sword.."
Glenn? "Dragonaut" and "Snakebite," - As he says? "VERY PRIESTLY! (emphasis mine! YEAH!!  ).

M'kay. Here's my long-overdue review of Redeemer of Souls.
Not gonna lie. I kinda grappled with myself about it. I mean, the majority of the songs were good. Halls of Valhalla was a pleasant surprise. Sword of Damocles, as well. The only thing I feel was sorely missing from this album was the power of the Twin-Axe Attack. Yes, I know Richie is talented, but many of the guitar solos were painfully short. Glenn doesn't shine in this one as much as Richie did. Also not a big fan of the sound quality (mixing/engineering/producing? I haven't the faintest idea). It sounds like they tried to make it sound more hard rock than heavy metal, and it just brings the whole album down a notch, IMO. Not to mention the "meh" songs on it, like Redeemer of Souls, Down in Flames, Hell and Back, and Metalizer.
In short, it's got too many songs, not-that-great sound quality...thing, and it needed a tad more guitars.
Only thing I'm sure of is that it'll sound AWESOME live! You know, if they decide to play the whole album live while on tour. That'd be pretty cool.

Just wondering: Is anyone else wondering what happened to the 3 or 4 songs that the band said they had finished BEFORE KK announced he was leaving?? When Jayne came on to say that writing was going really well, it was before KK quit, so that leads me to believe that he was writing with Glenn and Rob as always. ALL the writing credit on the album is given to Rob, Glenn and Richie. Just leaves me wondering if KK was writing with Glenn and Rob and they scrubbed those songs that were done or if Glenn and Rob were just writing. Anyone else wondering the same thing??

9 miles? You are seriously almost there. St. Jude is Memphis in Dec. PLENTY of time. Only time I take my earphones out is to hear "Hunka Hunbka Burnin' Love" by Elvis. Helluva run! Think about it! Seriously, 9 miles now is almost a full come December.

I am absolutely LOVING this album!! I decided to train for a half marathon - don't ask me why, I've never been a runner or even liked running. Basketball was always my sport and running was something I HAD to do. I have been playing RoS exclusively during my runs, which, since I run with turtle speed means I listen to it twice while running up to 9 miles I have found such inspiration in this album. When every cell in my body is screaming, "STOP! What in the HELL are you doing?!", this album keeps me going. I am inspired by the fact that Priest was going to quit but Richie gave them the spark they needed to keep on going. The guitar work in this album is excellent. Fresh and new thanks to Richie, yet still unmistakably PRIEST! And you all know how I feel about Rob's voice  Ian shines in several songs, laying down some awesome bass lines! They went back to their roots. I am trying to get back to the athlete that I used to be. I guess that is why I have such a deep connection to this album.

I haven't got the time to listen to Redeemer of Souls that much yet but I like what I've heard so far!
Personally for me I think that they have pulled it of with this long album, question is if the masses will embrace it?
It's a big risk to release so many songs at once, it's easy to lose interest of an album if you don't feel it after a couple of rounds
on the hi-fi. :)

As I said earlier RoS' Finnish release date is today which just happens to also be my 23rd birthday. My local record shop kept their promise and sent the album in time for it to have just arrived in mail - and because I was early in preordering the album they threw in a 50cm x 50cm album cover poster as well! See pic below:
My review will have to wait for some time: I already unhooked my Hi-Fi amplifier as I'm taking it to the countryside for the weekend as part of my birthday celebrations (FINALLY a proper chance to use its full power, can't really do that in an apartment block).

Except for the production quality I don't get all the bashing either. I thought I was one of their most critical fans and after the first song released I thought that's what I was going to do. After listening to it though I was so happy. I really don't know what people want or expect but I think we got a quality Cd out of them. My personal opinion is that this is their highlight since Rob's return. The older fans have to appreciate this album.(you would think). The younger crowd I would give a pass. It's hard for young people to like anything old. All I know is that for the first time since "Demolition" I am thoroughly enjoying a Judas Priest release and that makes me so happy. If others don't like it so be it.

I feel the need to explain the comment that I made before someone goes apeshit. Redeemer of Souls, in my opinion, has examples of just about every style of metal that Priest has produced through the years, except for the Painkiller style. But Painkiller was just one album and quite frankly, Priest set the bar so high that even they can't reach that high again. I give this album a 9 out of 10. If it had just one screaming, high octane song, something like Devil's Child, then it would be a 10/10 for me. I still miss KK and saying that I would give this album to someone and say THIS is Priest is a slap in the face to KK and the incredible twin guitar attack that he helped create. But Priest has definitely come back to their roots with this album and I appreciate the way they have given us a little taste of almost each style of metal they have created. I enjoy Richie and his style. I think he is incredible live and his contribution to this album is fantastic. Richie and Glenn fit very well together.
I know that Rob is getting older and of course it is getting harder for him to sing the high notes. But I wonder if it wasn't because of his back pain that the screams seemed "forced" or not as clear as we are used to. Now that he has had surgery and is pain free, I wonder if those screams will be jaw dropping awesome like we are used to hearing from him. Even if they aren't, I don't care. I LOVE his mid-range vocals. My current favorites on the album are: Halls of Valhalla, Sword of Damocles, March of the Damned, Cold Blooded and Secrets of the Dead. I'm really loving this album and I really can't understand the people that are bashing it.

And let me say, it's awesome to hear Ian laying down some AWESOME bass lines! MAYBE, just MAYBE we will see him take that surprising step forward. COME ON IAN, you can DO IT!!

I'm listening to Never Forget right now. I think this song is about how they feel when they are on stage, playing for their fans. It is their "Thank you for everything" , a heartfelt message to all of us telling us that they love and appreciate their fans being there for them all these years. I think it's a beautiful way to tell us that it's not over yet and that they love and appreciate their fans. I really don't know many bands that would write such a touching song to their fans.

I can't even tell you how incredibly happy this new album makes me!!!!
I know people are complaining about the production. Could that be better? Yes, I'm sure it could be. But THE SONGS KICK FUCKING ASS!!!! I've been blasting this bad boy since I bought it right after work yesterday and I'm in heaven listening to another killer album by my all time favorite band. THE PRIEST IS BACK!!!!  I was tearing the plastic wrap off the CD before I even got out of the store. I cranked it on my drive home with the windows open. Several guys in cars next to me looked over and saw be jamming to it and they smiled at me or gave me a thumbs up. Gotta love metalheads!!
I need to listen to the album for awhile before I can give a review, but so far, I would say that this album is definitely one that I will play over and over again for many years to come!
THANK YOU PRIEST for giving the fans another classic Priest album to add to our collections!!

It's day two of listening and I stand by my review but I do want to make one tweak. I still don't like "Redeemer Of Souls". It's listenable and it sounds better on disc than the pre-release but it just doesn't do anything for me. Most of these songs either get you to want to headbang or just move with the beat. Some have slower starts and then buildups. "Redeemer" just kind of goes on monotonously. I really love this disc though. Out of 18 songs only 4 I would pass on. The two on the bonus disc I mentioned aren't that bad either. I think it's just hard to keep me interested for that many songs and one is just because it makes me feel bad. I would have thought it was kickass if it had 10 good songs, but the majority? I'm loving it! Thank You Judas Priest!!!

For the first time since I've been on this site I am truly excited about something Priest has done. I'm loving this Cd. In my opinion it's on par with some of their early releases. I can't even find anything to bash. Rob's vocals are more than sufficient. The screams aren't as high but who cares, he's in his freakin' 60's and sounds f**kin awesome. The guitar work is top notch and I like the uptempo songs alot. Richie's style has a little more flair/flash to it than KK's but I'm used to that now and it doesn't really change the "Priest" sound. Some of the songs have a pretty good beat with them, kind of gets you bouncing around with them. The drums and bass are turned up a little more than I'm used to from Priest but I like it. I haven't listened to the bonus disc yet but I'm on my third listen to disc 1 and it gets better each time. It is such a good day to be a Priest fan. You guys know I'll bash if I don't like it so believe me when I say this is not a fanboy review.
