Forget Tipton VS Hammett thats a joke. Tipton is untouchable, the real question should be Mustaine VS Hammett, now thats a question. in fact....... |

MELTDOWN, OPEN FIRE!!!!!!!
Why is this thread still in existance?
It must be destroyed!!!!!!!!!!!! | | METAL MELTDOWN wrote: | | I certainly DONT hear ANYTHING in Hammetts playing that would tell me he was taught by Satriani. I hear it in Steve Vai!! If he was then goody for him. Hammetts playing is mediocre at best. There are TONS of guitarist out there far better than him. The ONLY reason Hammett sits in the ranks of being one of the best is because of Metallica, early Metallica, as a whole. He is part of an extremely popular, overated, band and because of that its pushed him high in the ranks. All the little 15 year old guitar players out there are screaming Hammett Hammett Hammett because all they listened to was Metallica Metallica Alchollica. If Metallica went down in flames like most, thankfully, of the 80's metal scene, then Hammett wouldnt even be mentioned at all today. And furthermore its crappy for you to come on here and sing Hammetts praises over Tipton. You just slapped Tipton, a far better fluent and tasteful guitarist, in the face on his own website!!!
I will say it again...This thread needs to DIE.... | | unleashedinPA wrote: | | Hammett !
I've seen Metallica 11 times and Kirk is fantastic. He was a student of Joe Satriani. If you've never heard Joe then you should. He is unbelievable.
I also love Tipton. They each have their own style so it's tough to choose. I've gotta stick with Hammett and Tipton would be my second choice. |

I`m talikng abot his style,Glenn put`s such flare on his playing rather then just going thru the motions as so many do. Listen to some of his stuff from "Baptism of Fire" then tell me if you still don`t think he deserves to be in the crowd I grouped him with.
Good solid technical stuff . Glenn can hang with the best of them. Glenn clearly outguns Hammett. Power and prestige is what Glenn brings to us in his playing,Hammett while talented, doesn`t have the same finesse and grace. I like Metallica, but have never thought of Hammett as a premier player.
To go another one....George Lynch is my personal favorite guitarist, but even he doesn`t have the qualities that I have described for Glenn.
Other players that I feel have the same qualities as Glenn... would be Steve Vai,Eric Johnson and Al Dimeola. Edited at: Saturday, December 06, 2008 10:45:49 PM |

I can't believe youre even comparing these two guitarists/bands, who even thinks they have anything in common?
Priest music is intelligent and classic, Metallica is rude, smart-ass music … just my humble opinion … Taste cant be discussed …
I say GLENN (and KK)all the way!
But chewie025 is wrong to say that Glenn is not fair to the fans. I met Glenn when he was on his own private time one day, and he kindly said yes to a photo, he was very relaxed, calm and smiling, no rock star attitude whatsoever!! You may be the one who buys the cd's and tickets, but how would you feel if you wasn’t asked before someone took your photo? It would certainly piss ME off big time. I don’t understand why people think that musicians/celebs are open game, respect them and they will respect you. And if Glenn had said, please no more pictures, it would have been his choice, not yours. I wonder if you would have respected that?
Thanks Glenn, you are and have always been my guitar God!! |

I agree dude! Kirk Hammett got his hair cut and "went clean" and ever since, his intelligence seems to have withered! Glen`s got it in the bag!!!!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Udo S. from Friday, October 24, 2008 6:49:38 PM) | | Udo S. wrote: | | Tipton. |

So, let us consider the question we have ,on one side,a guitarist with quality riffs and some lead but then decided too do all his leads with a wah wah peddle. Why? Good question, why, i do not know. Then,on the otherside we have a guitarist who just seems to sound better and better with no wah as he progresses nicely with time.In other words,Glen tipton wins hands down and judas Priest is a much more quality band with much better musicians who write much better lyrics that arn't morbidly depressing and doomed....Smash,i'm going for infinity ,yeah.... |

sorry buddy but that was not the case. glen saw my camera the from the first minute. if he had a problem with it then he could have said right from the start "no pictures." and even if i had asked him to pose for a picture i think i would have been turned down. i talked to a few people today and they had the same reaction from glen after the show by the buses. maybe he was in a pissy mood. |

I've read your post in the topic "Priest autographs". Sure you're pissed off of Glenn's reaction. But, on the other side, can you understand his reaction (Yes, you're in right, you're one of the fans they buy the Albums and the tickets)? All they stay every time day and night in the limelight would have that too what you're missing by Glenn in this moment: Respect. One little question to Glenn and you're having your Photo without any trouble. |
