I guess maybe i did read to much into it, but i still don't really see the whole merchandising part of it. |

The bulk of my post was not to diss Maiden as I also love that band though Maiden today is highly geared towards the merchandising and stuff: seems the song has changed to BUY BUY merch....sure it's always been that like that.... In a way they're almost as bad as KISS but I don't really blame them. Though the last album I bought from Maiden had somewhat left me wanting for better unlike Nostradamus from Priest. AOR was...Lochness? with a few but great songs. Maiden used to be the only band playing in many countries and I highly respect all band members, so much so that i will defend Bruce Dickinson against ANY bashers, not that a grown up rich guy needs to be defended by an anonymous wanker on the internet....such as myself. I think you read WAY too much into what I was saying.
Turning down Mtv is only a sign of common sense, not of altruism. According to Mtv, classical music is underground and not very fashionable. So is folk music and african music (the real african music), indian music, south american music, chines music, etc. If music was what Mtv wanted it to be, it would be a sad sad world.
I appreciate your reply, late as it is.e [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by codynstuff from Sunday, July 27, 2008 3:52:07 PM) | | codynstuff wrote: | | To whereami thats not really true at all, it cost me 50 bucks per ticket to go see maiden, 85 for the priest, and in comparison for where i live to where there playing it would be even more, im not flaming priest or anything, there one of my favorite bands, but its not right to say maiden is all about the $, i mean they turned down an offer from mtv because when metal went out of style it dropped it like a rock. I know he is but thats not always a bad thing for a singer, I find it kinda funny actually. When did he say this was it recently or like 20 years ago? |

Bruce is extremely outspoken.
Here's something he said (basically this):
"Your band is only as big as the show you can put on, and Iron Maiden put on a massive, incredable full scale production every night." I think they are friendly to each other but wouldn't say they are friends like Priest are with Sabbath and Scorpions. I love Maiden but Bruce can be a bit outspoken and likes to dish the same system that gave them their big break. I get the feeling sometimes that Bruce thinks he's above everyone. |

I just saw maiden and they put on a fantastic show, i want to see priest but i may not be able to, 85 bucks is a little expensive for a 16 year old, plus it cost me 50$s to fill up my tank, ugh. |

My two favorite bands. I never saw them tour together but my brother did. A dream of mine would be to see them together but I don't ever see that happening. Both bands are just so talented IMO. I love both bands equally for different reasons. I don't like to compare them because they are both so very different. I feel priveleged to be able to see them both play in the year 2008. Lucky Lucky me. |

I read a lil' bit of Maiden's Run To The Hills book and there was a small part about Judas Priest there. I think Maiden were a big fan of the Priest, but DiAnno had said something like 'we are better than Judas Priest' (not with those words) in some interview.. it was kind of a joke, but Priest had seen that interview and they thought that Maiden were arrogant. KK said in that book that it was a misunderstandment and they are friends nowadays, Priest and Maiden.

Hi. I think Iron Maiden and Dickinson pull their own weight around. I don't know if there is a rivalry between the two bands, but it's been years ago that the Sharon O. egg-throwing incident happened and it's time to let it go. Dickison has a big mouth and is opinionated, which he can be all he wants, who am I to censor? Still, I'm not seeing Maiden this year so Dickinson's bla-bla-bla doesn't affect me in the least.
Will I go see Judas Priest this year? I'm looking forward to it. The concept of the album has dawned on me. Slow to get it, but I got it and it is THE BEST concept album EVER. I think Judas Priest are better to the people who want to see them play than $Iron$Maiden$. Good grief I lost faith in the Priest delivering the goods but I guess I am very happy to have been proven wrong.
This album is to be enjoyed as a separate but parallel work of Judas Priest.
It's a work of indulgence both to them and to the people who have listened to them for decades:You buy the album, you ought to be able to see Judas Priest play without breaking the bank. And a few "little extras" like Motorhead will not hurt anybody.
Nostradamus IS our man. |
