"Classic metal, classic heavy metal, classic rock, hair metal,... Who the fuck cares? I don't care what it's called. These guys play solid drumlines, catchy riffs and killer guitar solos. They rock!"...Craig
That's exactly the point Craig...you don't care!! Look at these posts...there are plenty here who care...all except you. Now, why be so stubborn and stir the hornets nest??
Remember the title of the thread...Your Classic Heavy Metal Album Of The Day!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Craig Wagenhoffer from Saturday, July 04, 2009 9:44:39 PM)

Hey Craig...look at the name again...J.D. is different than JD...JD is the most respected member in name only, as a man he's a tool and is deserving of nobodies respect!!!!
The J.D. you are engeged with is a hell of a guy and you'd be well served to understand his intent...as he is dead on correct.
By NOBODY'S standard is Winger in any way, shape or form considered a Classic Metal Band...hell, Kip will tell you that himself. So why are you so stubborn about something the band itself witll tell you your wrong???

I like a healthy debate, but I will not continue this discussion with you. You simply can't have a mature debate with someone who uses double standards and likes to call people names. We will simply have to agree to disagree. End of story.
I noticed that you are the most respected member of this board, but I couldn't care less about that. You don't own this place. Better keep that in mind, buddy. This section of the board is called "Beyond the realms of Priest" for a reason. So in this section I can post anything I want. And besides: everybody has his own definition of classic heavy metal. It's a personal thing. To me "Winger" is definitely a part of that movement, which means I have every right to post in here.

Yes dumbshit yes........"Rob K.K. Glenn Ian and Dave Holland were all 5 a bunch of "posers" with the "Turbo" album. And the "Turbo album" doesn't belong in the "Classic Heavy Metal Thread" either!
Rob & company were a bunch of posers for the entire Turbo era...it was equally cheesy as "Winger"...... ...But the rebounded with the Ram It Down album even though it was not that great of an album...the had thier image back and thier sound was returning to a normal heavy metal album...yes Love Zone and I'm A Rocker was lame....but the band had thier studs and spikes back and thier sound was beginning to pave way for Painkiller.
Not to mention...Love Zone and I'm A Rocker blows away anything "Winger" has ever done.
So what the fuck are you trying to prove here.....??? Nothing is the answer. You thought you were cute for posting a shit band and shit album in the classic heavy metal thread and you got slapped in the puffer for it!
I am a "guardian" of classic traditional heavy metal done the traditional way by the masters of this art. Who the fuck are YOU for questioning "MY knowlege" within the realm of heavy metal or metal in general anyways you Winger loving
unmetal supporting glam nostalgic retro trend poser!!!?? What the fuck don't you understand about not posting a non-classic heavy metal band in this thread? Are you fucking retarted? Fuck.
Its not "rocket science" guy....get a fucking clue.

Okay, fair enough.
If I follow your logic Judas Priest became a full-blown poser band in 1986 when they released the "Lemon". Yah, I'm talking about Turbo. That album is a 1980's cheesefest. Everything about the Turbo era was cheesy: the outfits, the hairdos, the girly metal look, the "check out my hairless chest" outfits... The only thing Rob did back then was walking around with that silly mullet. It was even a million times cheesier than any Winger record. It was so cheesy that it made me cringe everytime I heard it. It was so cheesy that I decided to throw my copy in the trashcan. Ram It Down wasn't any better! "Love Zone", anyone? LMAO!
Winger definitely represents a certain genre that a certain group of people don't like. But at least they sticked to their guns and always continued to release melodic metal albums, even in the early nineties when everybody jumped on the alternative bandwagon. Rob Halford on the other hand has followed just about every trend in rock music. He released heavy metal albums when heavy metal reigned supreme during the early eighties. During the mid eighties glam became all the rage and he decided to put out a glam album in 1986... and another one in 1988... During the early nineties he suddenly became "alternative" and released a few grunge albums with Fight. After that he changed styles again by releasing a trendy industrial record. And so on... and so on... According to your logic this makes Rob one of the biggest posers in rock history. Now how do you live with that?

Look guy.....this is a "CLASSIC HEAVY METAL THREAD"!!! I don't give a flying "FUCK" if the guys from "Winger" are great musicians or not,"Winger" are a bunch of "posers" that are an "embarrassment" to the entire rock community.
"White Lion's" guitarist was an excellent musician but he was a "poser".......most of the poser bands back then were great guitarists...that doesn't mean that they were good "song writters".
"Dream Theater" are a bunch of posers as well. And so the fuck what if Kip was a bass player for Alice Cooper......what does that mean? Nothing.
Calling stellar musicians posers is not at all "childish"....it a respect for the spirit of traditional heavy metal like Judas Priest. What are you going to post next "Poison? Pssssssfff what the fuck ever. All the guys in the shit band "Winger"
are fuckin "posers"...with thier big hair, girl cloths and "poser dancing on thier MTV videos".
Obviously you have no clue as to what this "thread" is all about. And obviously you don't have a clue as to what "traditional heavy metal" is all about or you wouldn't of posted a "Winger" topic in the "CLASSIC HEAVY METAL THREAD".

Posers eh? Dude WTF? It's fine if you don't like Winger, but calling them posers is just plain wrong. They're all great musicians. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. There is a reason why they were called the glam version of Dream Theater.
Reb Beach is a guitar virtuoso. That man is up there with Eddie Van Halen, KK Downing, Glenn Tipton and George Lynch. You don't believe me? Check it out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8q0Mb_uOG8 This man is a class act and you can't deny that after watching that video.
Kip Winger himself is one of the greatest rock n' roll singers of the 1980's. He played bass on several Alice Cooper records. Is Alice Cooper a poser too?
Rod Morgenstein is a great drummer. He's plays the drum kit left handed like it's nothing. He's a professor teaching percussion at Berklee College of Music in Boston. You might not like the man, but he's no poser.
Look dude, we all have our own tastes, but you should really loosen up and stop talking like a fundamentalist. It's okay if you don't like certains bands and certain genres, but calling four stellar musicians posers is just childish. I mean: I'm really not into Schubert's music, but I will never call the man a poser, because it is so obvious that he was a very gifted musician.

Sorry Craig, but "Winger" is nowhere near a rock band, they are a bunch of posers who got lucky in the big hair era of commercialism and I'm not saying that you shouldn't like it,I'm just saying that this thread is a "Classic heavy metal album" thread....not a haven for such glam bands as "Winger". You notched down my Running Wild post a couple of notches for freakin' "Winger"?
Couldn't you of posted this somewhere else besides a "CLASSIC HEAVY METAL THREAD"? I would for one, appreciate it alot more if you would of,not trying to start a fight with you Craig....
I am a passinate heavy metal fan and I mean "TRADITIONAL CLASSIC HEAVY METAL FAN" like our elite forum member 'HELLRIDER"......and "Winger " is an "insult" to this thread.

My classic metal album of the day:
Okay, no respectable metalhead alive in 1988 would admit they liked this obvious attempt at pop metal. I know I never did. But to tell the truth, while everybody, including myself, was mocking this album, I was secretly rocking it in my car at maximum levels. LOL! While there is no doubt that Winger's debut is pop metal to the maximum, it's really not that bad. It’s actually quite enjoyable. Winger featured four stellar musicians, especially Reb Beach. Nobody can deny that Reb was one of the best guitar players of the 1980’s. That guy had tons of talent. |
