TOPIC: Iron Maiden Discussion
[J.D. DIAMOND] Thursday, July 22, 2010 1:37:09 PM
Yeah Budred Janic Gers moves like a marching band from high school jumping up and down too much and is like a jester or a fool but he is an excellent guitar player no matter what anybody else says. Brian is correct when he says the "talent" of Iron Maiden, the songs and songwritting is a whole other matter ect... but yes they are very good,Bruce is an excellent vocalist even though he irritates me sometimes vocally if that makes sense, all 3 guitarists are very good,Steve Harris is the best bass player ever and even Nicko is a good drummer. The problem I have with the band is that they wrote a different style of british heavy metal that made up the band's first 5 albums up to Powerslave and then that was it,kaput kaboosh gone and never to return, end of story.

Somewhere In Time sounds so different that its almost like another band. Same with the Seventh Son album and every album after it including the first 2 songs from The Final Frontier, they tried to harken some old sounds but it clashes with to much progressiveness for my likings because the band gave us 5 stright albums of one awsome style and then they took it away from us forcing us to be fed little incriments of riffs that remind us of old Iron Maiden that don't last long before they vanish into "nu-iron maiden-sounds" and "nu-Steve harris ideas".

Throughout these "nu" albums from 1986 to 2006 there are an albums worth of songs maybe 10 or 11of them that could make up one Iron Maiden album that still wouldn't be close to Powerslave or anything before it but there wouldn't be anything off of Somewhere In Time,The X Factor,Virtual Eleven or Dance Of Death....all 4 of those albums I hate with a passion. But beings how talented the band is and have always been,I still can see why Brian likes the nu stuff but to me being 12 years old buying The Number Of The Beast I remember a totally different band and a totally different attitude from this band.

Judas Priest still has this "spirit" except from the Nostradamus audio but live they still "look" and sound "heavy metal"  and still with the British Steel 2009 tour and now with a new album in the works(soon!)they will put out another metal masterpice.2005's Angel Of Retribution's "sound" had the old school sound regardless if anyone likes the album or not they can't deny that it sounds like it could of been released right after Defenders Of The Faith instead of Turbo! Iron Maiden have lost thier tradmark sound but they still are a talented band, but the band that I used to like died after the Powerslave album and tour.
