I think I came to the conclusion that "Sins of a nation" was the first line back when we were last considering the topic. Not convinced about the second, though. New suggestion that I don't believe I've heard before. Have to give that one some consideration and a few listens.
I must put my 2 cents in. I think he says "Sins of a Nation" the first time and "Desperate Nation" the second. You can hear the first verse clearly on the bootleg "Live in Concert June 25th 1980"
