Tesla is popping up everywhere at the moment LOL. I'm watching Pawn Stars and some dude just wandered in to the shop with what he claims to be Teslas engine prototype.
Yeah, like painters. I guess you aren't famous until you die. Marconi gets the radio and anyone who has been to the top of the Eiffel tower knows that a figure of Edison is sitting up there. Shame that there are numerous things named after Edison (especially in Detroit) while a Serb-American like Tesla still undoubtedly changed the world as we know it.

Yeah the doco said he died in poverty, and that the patent Marconi stole got rectified after his death - something like that anyways.

HAA! While that may be true, he was a Serbian citizen who later became an American working under the stingy, egoistic Thomas Edison. Tesla broke off and was the sole inventor of AC or Alternating Current (AC comes before DC!). THAT is what we use today. It carries voltage farther than the weak DC put forth by Edison. Sadly, he died in poverty.
Any nerd knows that Edison was a shill. Tesla was a mastermind. As mentioned, also the inspiration for both the monetary unit of Serbia as well as a great band! Always liked Tesla:

We saw a doco on the history channel that was, in part at least, about Tesla. One of his patents got stolen by Marconi - at least that's what I gathered, I was trying to baby wrangle at the same time LOL.

Random fact:
Modern Man owes more to the inventions of Nikola Tesla than to Thomas Edison.
(in addition to honoring him as a unit of measure, the band, Tesla, rocked...certainly more than "The Edisons")
