I'm not half as aggressive as you think ;) Just express myself rough.
I've got to say I had my guns pointed at Nostradamus and ready to shoot, especially after the VH1 and Mtv listens but I am completely taken aback with the work done with the synths which I usually despise. I have no problem with the drum work. Ballads are dependent upon mood and the guitar work is not what I wished for, though it is still great and done extremely well. Some more spontaneity (sp?) would be more to my taste in a few places. Deep Purple I think can't so much be judged with today's standards. They were THE band at their time. I love their studio stuff. Between Sabbath and Purple, Purple are my favorite. I don't think they've ever stopped touring and they pre-date Sabbath.
It is because I like good metal that I like this album.

You seem to like a lot of good metal (mentioning German metal and Diamond) so I really can't understand how you liek this album. But - there is something for everyone in this world, I guess. Again - there were quite a few Priest fans who loved Two and I was banging my head against the wall...

Very good point! I didn't think of "that" Priest. Songs like the ones you mentioned (Epitaph, Dreamer deceiver, Run of the mill) are by far my least favorites. When I think Priest I think mostly of Stained Class / Hell Bent for Leather and newer. From the first 3 albums I can listen to some songs and I skip the other ones. I guess those are the ones that several people like the most? But in my mind those songs are "to be forgiven" considering the age - new rock band, trying to make their way, find their style, not a lot of music around. Deep Purple's first 3 CDs were also crappy and then they released a masterpiece like In Rock, maybe the heaviest album of its time. So - when certain bands were (in my mind) clueless trying to find their style in the late 60s, early 70s I sort of don't hate their music, I just consider it part of taking your first steps. But Nostradamus is being released quite a few years and albums after that... |

 I don't understand you. First you say you hate the album, that it is not Priest. Now you "can" listen to a few songs of it....? Judas Priest has always done a ballad here and there, some dubiously metal songs here and there. To me this is Priest like it hasn't been for a long time. I'm not a fan of metal ballads for the most part, they're so easy to detest. I rather have a total massacre for two hours. But since this wasn't meant to be a massacre, I take what I can get out of it which is plenty. Computer speakers don't do justice to the sound. If you got a good sound system in your car, if you have a car, then listen to it going down the highway. My first listen of Nostradamus was like that and the sunset at the time only helped the mood. If the second cd seems like Nostradamus loses some steam, I think it provides a little break from the massacre of the 1st cd. Me, I rather have the spastic guitars, which there is not enough of. I can feel Ian Hill's bass rather well and unlike the first listen online, I think Halford's voice is in good shape, he does a great job. I love the italian opera and the french distorted vocals. There is an overall feeling of german metalness...even somewhat king diamondish. Definitely Black Sabbath. I like how the violin was applied for drama.

You're just another dude with enough money in his hands to splurge on tattoos but bitching at how much it cost to buy a cd of his favorite band and so he goes on a tirade of how bad the music is and wondering if he can recoup some of the money spent buying Nostradamus because he doesn't think it's Judas Priest. Though he lurves Turbo and thinks Maiden's Matter of Life and Death is "the best since 1988."

I have burned myself a Nostradamus compilation with the stuff that I like and I came up with an 8 song, 47 minutes album. I will sell the CD as soon as I can, in order to recoup something out of it (in a couple of months the word will be out and the CD will cost $ 0.99). This will be the first time I don't own a Priest album (I even have bootlegs)

What's more, I don't recall any band doing that (Queensryche's OM, Dream Theater's Metropolis 2, Gamma Ray's Land of the Free - they all stuck to their guns). Sme bands some have even released the best albums in their careers when they went for the conceptual. It is not that Judas' members are old either. Maiden's Matter of Life and death (another conceptual, BTW) was their best album since 1988. Megadeth's last 2 are their best since Countdown to extinction.

Look how much Rush changed their musical style. It took time, but I like what they did in the 80's and onwards.

On the whole I agree. I don't exactly hate Nostradamus; there are a handfull of good songs, but I have to say that I'm very let down by it. There's no edge, it's samey, it's far too long. I 'm sure that Scott isn't playing on it, they've used a drum machine
I'm all for groups progressing. I certainly don't expect them to stick to the same format as British Steel. I really like Angel Of Retribution and even Lochness has grown on me.
As you say Iron Maiden's BMW and AMOLAD are amongst their best. I also love United Abominations and The System Has Failed. I think the same about Saxon - Lionheart and The Inner Sanctum is probably their best music to date. Thye've all progressed, but haven't lost their identity like Priest have with this release.
You will get a bollocking for your post - people have been flamed by some (not all) members of this forum for being so wicked and disloyal for daring to post negative comments.
