It's gonna be awesome, but a VERY hectic couple of days for us - the concert is in Wellington (1.5-2 hours drive away) and we have to be back home that night after the gig to fly to the USA the next morning [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by spapad from Saturday, January 08, 2011 6:44:59 PM) | | spapad wrote: | | Damn it! Disturbed is an excellent metal band and I love what they put out. They did not sell out, they just had the right promotion and a great sound. They accomplished what few bands do today. They were in the top 200 sales for U.S. for over a year, and at the top when Indestructable came out. They are the future of American Metal. IMO. | | jimmyjames wrote: | | All the best metal is coming out of Europe these days. The big American Metal bands like Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold are just a product. In saying that though, there are some great, great metal bands coming out of the States, they are just more underground and you have to look around a bit to hear their stuff. Some of these bands have been around for years but have remained under the radar rather than take the commercial road like Disturbed and co have. However you do have to give it to Disturbed, they are taking metal to a wider audience. They are over here in May actually and have toured a few times. So they are definately promoting metal in all corners of the world and reaching out to fans everywhere. Unlike Priest who tend to specialise in cash grab U.S tours trading on music they released 20+ years ago. |

To be honest, I dont' like Death Metal because most of what I have heard tromps on the vocalist. I hate to listen to a song I can not hear the words to. In my opinion, if the vocals don't stand out that is because the vocalist is crap.. Bands such as trivium and avenged sevenfold can go to hell cause they will never be as great and godly as priest or pantera or any other great metal band was.
There are a few young band that I feel will keep carrying the torch for metal: dekapitator (2007 album storm before the calm feels like it should have been released in 1987)
black tide (great young metal band)
But overall metal is going downhill fast. There will never in the history of metal be a band that achieved the greatness/godlyness that a band like priest or megadeth achieved. |

That's a cool picture and story. I think Drowning Pool is awesome. A very good live band. I have a video of them from
Rock on the Range. People think metal is dying but you had to see the size of the crowd and the enthusiasm in it. Very
high energy. I would put it up but the quality is poor and I don't have it on youtube. Although I heard Ripper once say that someone gave him a downloaded CD to sign. Jesus, now that takes some balls doesn't it? My sons think it's really cool that we have gotten some of our old LPs that we had as kids autographed and they want to be able to do the same thing. Parents set the biggest examples for their kids and ours see us buying CDs all the time, not stealing it. When we talk about it, they both think it's really wrong and even say "How does the band make any money then?"
I still can't believe how unbelievably cool Drowning Pool was! 11 years old and my son got on their tour bus!!! I've NEVER been on a tour bus and I don't think I ever will be. I was at home with our youngest son. Here's a picture of them

When Mark pulled out all their CD's for them to sign, he saw the reaction of the band and how much they appreciated the fact that we BOUGHT all their stuff. The ENTIRE band signed every single CD booklet AND the CD itself. He wants the CD's to look at the art and lyrics. He even gave his little brother the Painkiller CD for Christmas!
