I'm glad to say that the only mention of the marathon on news over here was about the Chilean miner ran it. (they did also mention the winner). No celebrities at all in the article, in any case, I have no idea who this Jared Whatsit guy is. No need to tell me, I don't really care either.

Good work Ron! Just curious, is there no legal standard for holidays over there? I mean as in, every worker here in NZ is entitled to 4 (I'm pretty sure it's 4 LOL!) weeks paid annual leave a year. Is it not the same there, does it depend on employer?

Holy crap! Congrats to your brother in law. That is one hell of a time! My fastest ever for a HALF is right around the 2:03 mark. I gotta find some faster running music or something.

The Chilean did pretty darn well. Saw that he had both knees iced down at one point. "Screw with the training," hell..I was thinking that it would have been difficult to even register. His story sure beats the hell out of Jared, IMO.

I thought Montana was the laughing stock of the states.  I always said if we sent the dumbest one percent of albertans south we would raise both our average IQ and theirs.  Unions have their place, sometimes, in our work, its all customer service, not so usefull

My bro in law ran the NY for the first time this year, beat all the celebs in this article.  3:26 I think.  I like that one of the chilean miners did it.  traped underground for months must fuck up the training something fierce.

Wow, I could have almost walked that time. But at least he tried. Most people would never do that.  I feel for each and every one of the marathon folks as to just participate and finish is an accomplishment of their own.

Sleep easy. Al finished in 7 hours. As for crapping himself, I couldn't answer that one.

I've never looked for times on the NY marathon in my life. I understand, as a runner, you would find it offensive, but I still hope AL did okay and didn't crap himself trying to finish. LOL

That is exactly why I was pulling for Al. No massive corporation making sure he finished with a decent time.

I really find it sad that the world is more interested in the celebs than the actual winner. Seriously, try searching for the winning time and you'll be forced to slog through countless pages talking about "Jared, the Subway guy!" Maybe if the three Africans that took men's 1, 2, and 3 were on "Dancing With the Stars..."

OH come on Guid, can't blame the guy  for trying. Even if it is incentive (money) oriented.
I hope Al did good, he tries hard to stay a decent size and it is not easy for him even with the operation. I would hate to have to work that hard to stay a sound weight.

Oh happy day. Ex-fatguy Subway shill Jared finished the NY marathon. Wonder how many people had to carry him over the line?

Personally, I was hoping Al Roker would have had HIS crew pull his ex-tubby ass over the sensors first.

I'm from a right to work state. Unions exist but are not very influencial anymore.

I rememer when I was a child watching the news on months long miner strikes. The media always went and found the miner who lived in a cabin with an outhouse, who was the most uneducated person to find in the area.

For that reason alone I'm glad that VA, and finally WV, are right to work states. Got tired of people thinking just because of the state I was from when we vacationed north that we all lived on hilltops past Richmond and all have nothing but farms. I really hated that dated opinion of our state. Unfortunately, that opinion is still out there. Not so much for VA but WV is the laughing stock of the U.S.  Glad my plates read VA.

sounds good.  I am on the company side of our negotiations, started with a 2 day set in july, had 2 days set in september, but we fired 2 of the three barganing comitee members inbetween, and they were the ones with the most issues, so we agreed to cut the september dates to one day.  next is 2 in December.    hope we get somewhere, I think as of now we have either agreed or agreed to withdraw 4 of 83 uniton proposals and 1 of 4 company proposals.  at this rate the deal will be done about the same time as my pension starts.

Nice job! I'd love to have 11 paid holidays a year! I'd also love it much if our employer picked up more on our health insurance than they do, but  our premiums would go down dramtically if we could get everyone there to participate in the insurance, but it's hard to  get employees who work at lower wages to even  consider health insurance. As for the vacation, I should be coming up on 3 weeks this spring myself! Now, if they could just give us sick days that weren't such a joke. lol

Bev is well versed in procedure and all things HR, so it was helpful bouncing ideas off her.  We did have our unmoving points of view, but great insight none the less.

Some of the gains we made on the economic side are we now have 11 paid Holidays a year, 3 weeks paid vacation, employer paid health insurance and a $.75 raise!!

Congrats Ron! I could see Bev's point of view. That many months of listening to the tales of the nogotiation table.
Good to hear your union came out on the better side of things.
