As George Carlin once said. When you reach the pearly gates at the end of your life if you have a chance to ask the ONE question, What are we here for? a voice will answer back "Plastic" LOL The earth couldn't make it on it's own so we were invented.

DDT caused problems and replacing it caused more.  these enviro nuts have no sense of reason.  saving the earth is a great idea, so they tell you to recycle plastic bags, which creates more polution than tossing them straight in a river???  WTF>  I am not advocating tossing them in the river, but reuse, eliminate the use of, and landfill the damn things when you cant do one of the above.  but no, it looks cool to recycle, so kill the globe and recycle them.

DDT did cause some problems and there are safer alternatives, but I have never truely bought the idea that we are the major culprits of global warming since the earth has seen far worse things than we do over it's time and has survived just fine. The earth will be here long after we are gone as a species bacause I have no belief we will survive till the sun goes supernova, we are too violent a species and will eventually end ourselves or a big meteor will take the lot of us out! It's going to get hot, and then get even colder! The greenfreaks just don't look at long term history.

climate change exists, absolutly.  man made, not a chance.
I wonder how much damage these enviro nuts are doing to the environment with these stupid policies they push.  Banning DDT killed tens of thousands of people and did major enviro damage.  these nuts dont get it.  man cannot and should not try to influence nature.  look at yellowstone park.  kill the wolves, reintroduce them, kill them again, cause the whole place to damn near burn to ground (lightning caused fire)....

Oh finally someone who doesn't believe the END is near!  This all has happened across time, what made anyone think that it was sunny smooth sailing from the last ice age on out? Carbon has been this dense in the past and was not caused by man.

if you can calculate the volume of the ice in metric I can do it in calories for you.,

yeah, wonder how much energy it would take to melt all that?  probably a nuke would do it, although most would flash to steam and have to condense into rain.

I know it don't seem like a lot, but that's a mighty big shelf (1,000,000 sq. mi. ??), so if it melts 1/2" off the top evenly across every hour or two and it all flows in the same direction, could that create flood conditions??  I know they all just like to scare the hell out of ppl, but it's something to think about...

the polar bears survived 6000 years ago when north america was much warmer than today.  go to church hill, they roam the streets there.

yeah, that would happen if you could get a fast melt.  need a big torch to do it though.  considering the temp you would need to melt it all in a summer, the flood would be the least of our worries

Well, if the shelf is melting rapidly, it would flood then eventually even out, but there would be initial flooding on the shores closest to the new water source...the article didn't say that this area would be permanently flooded, just that it would initially flood, then recede of course for the very reason you mentioned...but that's a lot of inches to rise for such a big area...BTW, it was the NE shores of N. America specifically...

    HA!!!
it kills me when I see these things in the news.  I read one a while ago that said that if all of antarctica melted (which it wont) sea level would rise by 2 feet in the south pacific, 12 feet in hawii, 8 feet in japan, 6 feet in england.  WTF???  probably if you could get water to spread like that it would, but last I checked, it spreads evenly.  never noticed that if you dump a bucket of water into a puddle it all goes to one side, floods the ant colony and the other side stays level??
