I agree on that one. I dont think he is into this tour. I liked the stoic classic look and riffage of Murray & Smith

I saw it last night in Calgary.  good show, wish the set list was a little different, or they trimed the songs a little shorter.  after a while all the songs started to sound the same.  still, good show, they sounded good.

on the subject of shirts, $50 is too much, but the white shirt with the faded red lettering, what a joke, looked worn out, but dated 2010?  early vintage?  looked like the printer was running low on ink

i went and seen maiden in vancouver thursday night and i had a lot of reservations about their set list and some of them came true ( went for a beer in the reincarnation of benjamin breeg dance with death and looked at merch $50 for a shirt! dont love em that much!!) but over all i thought they had good sound and dickinson was in fine voice and full of energy .GMplace was packed and the encore alone was worth the night !!  they put on a great show and it was a great experience up to  and including at the shark club when the dj came on and seen a room full of maiden shirts and played 4 songs for us that was pretty cool( before show) !!!!

How could I not agree with you HRMG????   Everything you've just said hits the nail head on,this is the "truth" about Iron Maiden in my opinion as well. Excellent post HRMG.  Fuck "Iron Maiden" and piss on everyone who pisses on people who "rip on Maiden !" .

Yes, I agree totally Spa! WAY TOO MUCH ego there and that's what it's become about, not the music like you said. Too bad too because I used to love them in the early '80s. Although I've never thought that any of them were hot.....

Man piss on everyone who rips on Maiden. Sure they've gotten all stuck up with their music, the songs of the new album got stale the second time u heard them, and they're pretty much pulling what people claim ac/dc did with back in black. Brave New world would be their BIB album. Fact is though they're still around after 30 years. Still playing HEAVY METAL(albeit they're own new wave of repatative preachy god worshipping metal) But hey still got Bruce and Harris and Murray and mcbrain. At least they're still putting out long talented songs. Cool guitar solos, even though ya the turn from devil inspired songs to Jesus inspired songs is really really lame.... Fuck it i've got floor tickets for the show this Thursday!!! WHOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!

This new Eddie is really cool!

Those songs were great because they were INSPIRED by those topics. They felt passionate about it and wrote great songs because they felt something. What I feel is missing now and has been missing for a very long time is the passion and emotion that they used to have. I feel no connection to them now. Music is supposed to make you FEEL something, by the lyrics as well as the music. Maiden makes me feel like I'm sitting in a history class being bored out of my mind and that is NOT what I want when I listen to music! I don't have a problem with the topics they write about, I have a problem with the fact that they no longer put any heart or soul into their music. I said before, why don't they write about something that they give a shit about? This is what I meant by that - put some emotion into it! I think we can all agree, whether we like a Priest song or not, it is always full of passion, heart and soul. You can feel the way that they did when they wrote the song. Priest pours their heart and soul into every note that they write. Iron Maiden no longer does that and THAT is what is missing IMO. I know you may not agree with me and that's fine. I just don't feel it anymore like I used to.

I've always felt since the late 80's that Iron Madien became a band all about Steve Harris and his love of monopolizing a song with too much bass. Then Bruce decided to put his degree into play and make songs about poems and such that went on forever. The only one of which I love it "Rhyme fo the ancient Mariner".
So they became more ego driven than music driven as far as I'm concerned. That's about the time they started to suck! Damn shame. They had something and pissed it all away. Sure Steve Harris is hot and so is Bruce, but that doesn't carry a band. Yawns.  BE must be used to music that puts you to sleep.

How about a round of applause for jd diamond and his lame Iron Maiden post.
[J.D. DIAMOND] Tuesday, June 22, 2010 2:09:46 PM
METALMANJP I think and many "old" 80's Iron Maiden fans think that the song subjects are cool, all those songs you mentioned are killer songs execpt Alexander The Great(yuk) but the song subjects are cool, its what Iron maiden is founded on,thats NOT the problem. The problem is that the songs themselves are and have been for 26 years been getting worse and worse ever since the shitty 1986 Somewhere In Time album, the songs themselves suck. The problem with the length of the songs nowadays is that we all know that the songs are going to suck and they last a long time. But it really doesn't matter because even if they shortened up each song to 3 minutes, they would suck just as bad so eh.

Its like there are 2 different Iron maiden bands: The great one from the first Iron maiden album 1980 - to 1984's Powerslave.......and then the shitty Iron Maiden band from 1986 Somewhere In Time up till now The Final Frontier. There is a freaking HUGE drop-off after the Powerslave album, its like after Powerslave aliens from another planet came down and took the killer Iron Maiden away to another planet and replaced them with a shit band Iron maiden who continued starting with the Somewhere In Time album. Maybe on that other planet where the real Iron Maiden are,the people there are getting quality albums like Killers,The Number Of The Beast and Piece Of Mine? LOL!! DOWN THE FUCKIN' IRONS!!!!!

I agree. Maiden writes songs about stories that someone else thought up. Phantom of the Opera, The Prisoner, Where Eagles Dare, Flight of Icarus, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Alexander the Great and so on.

Think how Halford back in 1981 wrote Electric Eye so far ahead of it's time. Know one knew about Sattelite's or how they could be used . How about Metal Gods, Artificial Intelligence and now it's coming to be. Halford is AWESOME !! So clever.

Yup, my friend saw them in Dallas for the opening of the tour. He left and got a beer during the show, FFS!! Now that just shows you how SHITTY it was! He would NEVER leave to get a beer if the setlist hadn't SUCKED SO BAD! I'm so glad we didn't get tickets to this. God does it blow! El Dorado has it's moments when Bruce sings high.... I almost think that the song could be something in those moments and then they just go back to being in love with themselves and how they play... They need an editor in the studio - someone to cut out the 3-4 minutes of shit in just about every song! I just realized that Silent Screams by Halford was over 7 minutes long - they need to take lessons from THE METAL GOD and learn how to write a long song! It should keep the audience craving even more at the end, not wanting you to end the song halfway through!! DOWN THE IRONS CAUSE IRON MAIDEN IS DONE AND THE NEXT PRIEST ALBUM IS GOING TO BLOW THEM AWAY!!!!!!!!!
