I dragged my husband, brother and SIL to Phantom of the Opera last week. SIL and I love Phantom and we told the guys - it'll be dark, there's guitars, there's a nut who murders people - oh yeah and they sing. It won't be that bad.
IT WAS THE WRONG ADAPTATION - WHAT A FUCKING RIPOFF!! It was so BAD that we couldn't even laugh at how bad it was!! They made the Phantom into this whiny little pansy who plays practical jokes on people. This retard probably couldn't work a lasso if he tried. I was prayin someone would drop a chandelier on Christine and SHUT HER UP. Thank God the bartender had the sense not to give me a glass bottle....I would've really fucking done it.

The music keeps me (in)sane...and the forum and several chatrooms have made life worth living since i came outta work (knackered me back) - goes to show that what u hear about internet ain't all true...there's a few REAL ppl around :)

Well, I happen to celebrate 2 birthdays...my real one is August 18, which makes me a Leo...My adopted birthday is May 8, 2003, a day in which my life was literally saved...I'm not sure what the sign is for that, but I think it only counts for the original...but for me personally, it truly is a 2nd lease on life!!!
I kind of embrace the term 'being stuck'. When it's used against me, it makes me happy in a way that reminds me that I never let go of what made (makes) me happy!!

I've been called strange and wierd and to those people I say "Thanks for the compliment!'. You mentioned United We Stand. After my fiance died this past June, I was trying to think of a way to pay tribute to him. Here in N.Y. on Friday nights we listened to the Eddie Trunk metal show on Q104.3 together. So I wrote an e-mail to Eddie about my fiance dieing, and about being a fan of the show and a huge Judas Priest fan (if you've heard the show then you know Eddie is also a huge Priest fan and has them on the show often). Eddie wrote back that he would say something on the air to pay tribute to Michael (my fiance), and that I should call in once the show began to remind him. Well after saying some really nice words about Michael, the first song he played that he dedicated to him was, United We Stand. So now everytime I hear that song it has special meaning for me.

Devils Child - I was going to respond to you last night, but it was late when I saw you rsponce. But everyones responce said it better than I could have.
I think the bottom line is don't try so hard to be someone you want to be. Let it come naturally. Don't worry about being shy. There is nothing wrong with it. When you are in an enviornment you are comfortable with you will open up with out trying and you will be more comfortable because it will be who you are, not who you are trying to be. You will be more sincere and feel more relaxed. There are many people in your pary of the world just like you.
Have you ever listened to the song "Don't try so Hard" by Queen. It was one of the last songs Freddie Mercury wrote before he died. He was one of the shiest people on this planet. But give him a mic and an audience and some music. Man, He was one of the greatest and most flamboient performers ever. As well as a great musician. (Google the lyrics)
And Hey Necroticist you can be a black sheep , but not the only black sheep. Growing up in Brooklyn in the 1970 when for a few years every one loved disco (YUK). Twisted sister being a local band had a song for us:

Morning Caron, you will never be alone here!! Never!! Never, ever put any stock in those that try to bring you down or try change you. You have to live with you, and that's all that matters. True friends will love you through thick and thin, no matter what, and that's the greatest gift one can give to another.
It looks like the 40+ crowd (?) has been chimming in (I'm 42), and even though you 'don't have to be old to be wise', there is something to be said for enduring life's challenges (God knows they never stop).
I don't get into a lot of today's trends, never have been a follower, and that comes with the ridicule of be 'stuck', but I see it differently. Our age changes, what makes us happy and comfortable doesn't.
As for being shy?! I couldn't tell!!

Darl you are so far from alone here, Even though we are all from different parts of the world i feel that we all have a special connection - It's great how music can bring people together... UNITED WE STAND!
I can totally relate to being shy at first, but once im in my comfort zone i let loose.. im a wild child every part a 20 year old chick with no boundaries.
Another thing to add, we are all here for each other and will be there when your feeling blue.. to quote Judas Priest: "So when you get those blue days, here's just what to do... From a band who knows the true value of playing their musical instruments with talent and a guy who knows how to sing like the heavens are opening up! We love the Priest.

Very well said mate. I guess i'm still feeling a bit burnt by what happened between me and my best mate. We had been close friends for 6 years, went overseas together spent heaps of time together, have heaps of awesome memories, then one day out of the blue she starts ignoring me - when i finally got to talk to her she was not the same person. She'd gone the way of the trend. I think i suddenly became uncool to her.  We never had a fight prior to this happeneing, there was no indication anything was wrong. I feel like she was reprogrammed.. perhaps by them UFO people HA! I have other friends, i just don't have much in common with them - which can get a bit annoying. I will say though i work with a guy who's around the age of a few of you "oldies" he's great, loves all the music i do. So at work we communicate through song lyrics and no-one has a clue. .
I will add to my defence.. i am a shy person to begin with, alot of people tell me that i don't seem intrested in much. I guess i just have to come out of my shell a little more, which i am trying hard to do.

Trust me im very young at heart, in alot of ways a big kid  I hate taking most things seriously. i just feel that there are alot of people my age who are more worried about how they look, and how many friends they have, and what's "in fashion" than what is actually true to themselves. Maybe it's just the city i live in but it's hard to find genuine people, and friends that will give things a try even if it is deemed 'unpopular'. I seriously feel like i was born 20 years too late. It's no wonder i get on best with my mates who are 30+... I'm always willing to give things a try, I have listened to many forms of music and finally having arrived here with Metal and hard rock i am happy.  I don't see the point in staying in trend when it changes every week.  Gimme some Sabbath or Zepplin from the 1970's... i can dance to that!!

I feel like in a way i'm forced to listen to older bands, and albums because whats on offer currently from newer bands just lacks depth, unless anyone can suggest anything? And not any of those bands who just cut and copy riffs and lyrics from the legends and sell it as their own.. oh and having a vocalist who sings is good too.. i hate that screaming / growling crap.

Well said People need to give everything a chance - I may only be young but i know enough to realise that my generation is impatient, quick to judge, wasteful and self centred. They don't give anything a second glance unless the tools controlling fashion and the media/culture say it's "cool" there are only a handful of of us who appreciate those who have gone before us, those who have florished well before we were born, and trends that were set before our time. And i'm not one of those hipsters who likes to wear retro because it's cool, for example if im wearing a band shirt or sporting a badge with a band name on it, rest assured i know who they are, what they play and own some of their albums.

That's a real shame. It was the same last year when I went to see Heaven And Hell in London. I think some of it may have had to do with not being able to use the "Black Sabbath" name, but just the same it was a piss poor turn out. Fantastic gig as well.
