I recycle as much as I can, we bought two large compost bins for grass clippings and food bits, give my no longer used clothes to charity so they're re-used, and drive as little as possible. Which is all good cos we have a small economical car anyways lol. |

I think most people would prefer to give their old clothes in good condition to a worthy cause. Just about to head out the door to investigate a "recycling drive" they seem to be having today. Once every blue moon sort of thing where they will at least take some cardboard. Good. I have a few tons that are really beginning to take up space. |

Damn, I could build a MANSION out of old beer bottles! Guest house and gun turret as well!
I snapped this pic in Cabo San Lucas. They make all sorts of blown glass objects from all the bottles they get from the hotels there. Funny part? It costs 10x more than PURE blown glass (nice artistic stuff) that you can get HERE in cities like Seattle! Amazing. This pitcher that they made in front of our eyes, while cool to watch, cost some $100+ USD. Yeah...right. I gave a tip for the nice show.

I was in a town in outback Australia.... (Obviously with lack of recycling services) this one couple had built a house out of old glass bottles and other pieces of scrap metal... It looked awesome, they even built a dog house out of old beer bottles. Hahaha not that i'm suggesting you do that..........

HAAAA!!!! Nice theory. Try that in rural Tennessee. This place really makes me sick as to how little anyone cares or CAN recycle! Absolutely nothing when I first arrived from Michigan (stupid me asked where the closest recycling center was so as to take back all the boxes I got from mine in MI so as to move) and is only now moving to a trailer where we can throw aluminum cans for the Boy Scouts.
Batteries? HAA! Plastics? Forget it. GLASS??? I'd have to drive 2.5 hours to have a hope of finding some place to take such items. Been driving around for a week+ with a ton of cardboard products in my car as there is now one place 20 minutes from here that will take it...only during certain hours.

Acts of green, eh? Hmm...maybe this all ain't enough...but it's something:
1) We started buying those tough, durable bags in stores like Aldi, Wal-Mart, et, al...in order to cart the items we buy. We figure, if we're using less plastic and paper bags, it helps. If we do get any plastic or paper bags, we try and use 'em as often as we can.
2) We recycle...but then, a lotta folks are doing that these days...
3) We have 5 of those 'Silly Straw' lookin' light bulbs in various lights throughout the house that get used most. Word is, they use much less energy and save money. Plus, we learned that unplugging any/all unused appliances like toasters, microwave ovens, or the plugs that boosts our battery power to our cell phones and anything else we're not using that requires plugging in can save on electric draw.
4) The next thing we're gonna be doing pretty soon is investing in cleansing products that are maleluca(?) oil based. This natural ingredient is combined with other bio-friendly additives that clean just as well if not better than those store-bought items, and is far more user friendly compared to some of the more chemically, butane-based aerosols and harsh cleaning agents that can give off strong aromas/odors that asthmatics or other respiratory-sensitive folks (like my wife and oldest daughter) can't deal with. |
