I'm not a homophobe but I thought it was so gay. From the nail polished fingers on the cover to the synth sounding
crap on the album. I was like great, a metal "Queen". I was almost embarassed to be a Priest fan at the time. Of course
I don't think like that anymore, I'm so much more tolerant now but I still think that album sucks. I'm so glad that album
tanked. Had it taken off we (actually you)(Turbo fans), would probably be reading the who's better, Priest or Bon Jovi

Dont forget ! The Judas Priest changed the image in 1978 after 4 amazing studio albums!!!
Judas Priest is not a media favourite band. But its the best and creative group.And the Turbo is far away from extremely money success!(Unfortunately)
I think they created this album without Poison influence.This idea is a big missconception. Media success depends on the business men's wills and
the music style is another history.

I think people kind of fall into two camps with Turbo.
1. Those that were there when it came out & were pretty damn disappointed to see JP change tact & basically follow the glam trend (obviously in their own style, but it was definately an attempt to coin in some of that Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Poison & Cinderella etc cash).
2. Those that have come in at a later period & can't see what the fuss is all about - it's just another JP album with great songs & a slightly different production (plus they don't look like that now, and went back to their original studs, leathers & more traditional metal P.D.Q. too).
Basically, I'm in the first camp - it wasn't what I wanted from my favourite heavy metal heroes (but, it was a successful period for them non-the-less). Not touring the UK on this album didn't help either though, plus the fact that with the exception of "Turbo Lover" they dropped every other Turbo song from the live set after this tour probably says quite a lot as well.

TURBO is an amazing album.
This contains 9 catchy,energetic,demanding heavy metal songs with powerful and well-mixed sound.
The synth gives more sci-fi feeling to this album (Check out "Turbo lover" or " Hot For Love" !).
Top10 vocal performances are in "Out In The Cold" and "Reckless".This album contains lots of
outstanding guitar solo.
All in all i ignore the negative opinions and i enjoy the TURBO!

Well at the moment you should listen to Turbo and Ram It Down back-to-back and there's your Twin Turbos...
Until the band releases the remaining Turbo sessions tracks and the original 1985 demos for a few Ram It Down tracks, we can't get anything near the original Twin Turbos idea.

I'm not so sure they were trying something new. I think they did one of two things.
Either they sold out or they were following a trend.(which would still (kind of) be selling out)
Glam was taking off at the time and was all over MTV and I think Priest wanted a little piece
of that pie. Did you notice their attire on that album and tour and/or the hairspray. Checkout
the live album from that tour and it sounds so polished and the tempo seemed just a little slower.
Thank goodness they came back with Ram it Down and Painkiller. Back to the metal!!!

I actually had the manager of a record store give me the demo to Turbo, because he was so disapointed in it. Once I heard it, I understood why. My all time most unfavorite album by JP. While some, and I mean a very few, grew on me over time, in general I was sad about that release. I actually did enjoy the videos as they were funny. lol

I take your point JD and if i had followed Priest up to that point then i might have been pissed off but as i got into the band later on when most of the albums had been released
there wasn't that expectation in waiting for the next album (same as the Sabbath albums,as i enjoy songs of all the albums where as some fans couldn't get past Ozzy leaving).
However i was a bit miffed when Jugulator came out as i thought it was a weak album and the same goes for Demolition..i think Turbo is a better album than both of these.
It will be interesting to hear the new Priest stuff..did KK write some of the material before he left ? as all of Priest's best work was written by Tipton/Halford/Downing losing KK's input
could be a big blow to the songwriting machine. |

Living After Midnight,Don't Hve To Be Old To Be Wise,Heading Out To The Highway all have an upbeat type of style yet none of the tracks from Turbo could possibly be close to the quality of those tracks. Turbo for me is the song writting that spanks of poor song quality. Its all personal opinions,but for me Turbo is the ultimate worse LP Priest have ever done.

if I remember it got slated at the time for the use of guitar synthesizers etc. Despite this there are tracks on it I quite like including the title track, and it still has Priest written all over it. maybe not the best album by any means , but to those that think it's their worst I only have one thing to say to you.... I'm actually listening to the original 1986 Turbo vinyl right at this moment.
It's a party album. Great when you have friends over at your house and know that they don't really care for typical heavy metal. It might not be so hard-edged than other Priest albums, but there's Priest's greatest strength as well: they sound very different on each album. Definitely not the worst that Priest has put out over the years.

I try not to think of it!
It was the end of a great era of Priest!
I still remember waiting for a follow up to the mighty Defenders and then i bought this on tape in April 1986.
At first i thought it was the wrong tape!
But,it was not and the disappointment that followed continued for years til 2005's AOR was released!
I am probably the only person on the planet that don't care for Painkiller.
It just doesn't do anything for me,it was Priest trying to fit in when they use to lead the pack!
So,yeah,i try not to think of Turbo or 1986,bad year for metal!
Except,Master Of Puppets was the album that kept my metal faith that year!
Something Priest preached about 2 years before but went back on their word word with Turbo!
That April was a sad depressing time upon hearing that album for the first time!
Shockin it was and still is!
It was the very beginning of that awful hairspray metal period,uugggghhhh!
Poison,Winger,Bon Jovi,Warrant and all that shit fuck music!

| The guitar work on Turbo is excellent and despite the fact that it is not a heavy album there are some first rate songs such as Reckless, Locked In, Hot For Love and Out in The Cold. I love the heavier albums but I have to admit that Turbo gets a very regular spin on my turntable and I would like to hear Reckless on the Epitaph tour! |

It's pretty good for being a glam album, but I consider it a weak release from Priest. Though it has it's moments like "Turbo Lover", "Locked In" and "Reckless".
