While we suffer those same inexplicable spikes in gas prices, what compounds the damage is that our economy is absolutely in the shitter. We are currently tied for second highest unemployment rate in the state (17+%) and we are one of the poorest states in the nation.

Well, just came back from Texas. Stayed in Houston and went to San Antonio, Galveston, and a town called Tyler. The trip was mainly for a family reunion of sorts, so I didn't get to do too many touristy things. Weather was humid, but pretty tolerable. Pics will have to wait, though, since I can't find the USB cord at the moment. Grrrrrrr...

Sad when people can't afford to drive themselves out to find better jobs but, hey, election year! One of the two rich guys running for Pres will fix everything for sure!
Ah, prolly a better topic for the Blah. After all, that is my general opinion of politicians (aka. big business). BLAH!

3.88 L per us gallon.
but once you convert to USD (.81 usd to the NZD) you come back to 7 USD a galon.

And whoever mentioned a gas price spike, don't even go there LOL our prices just went up to about $2.23NZ a litre. There's 3 litres in a gallon approx. So we pay approx $7NZ a gallon. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, well, too bad. I forgot my bathing suit at home. I did nearly crap my pants though when one of the tires on Mom's car got punctured by a brick that fell from a semi in front of us. That any better?
Spa, it did feel kinda spooky wandering around the cell blocks, so it probably is haunted. That or I've been watching too many episodes of Ghost Adventures.
Well, then. More pics, it is!
Here's one of the hallways.
A few of the bare essentials that prisoners were given.
The kitchen.
The exercise yard. It was really windy and could barely hold my camera up. According to the audio "tour guide", Bridge was a very popular game amongst the prisoners. Speaking of bridge, that's the Golden Gate in the background.
The library.
Solitary confinement.

Yup, sure did. Walked around "The Rock" for a good 3 hours taking pics of the buildings and the fauna and flora and going on an audio tour of the main prison. Kept getting confused as to where I was supposed to be by the end of each session, but it wasn't too bad. As for the swimming, I feel that I probably could make it, since the island was surprisingly close to the mainland. Would probably get caught early though, since my swimming skills are sub-par.
I'll post up some more pics when Photobucket stops being difficult (keeps giving me this "Status 503" nonsense), but here's one for now.

Cool. Did you get on the island? If so, did you ponder if you could make the swim?

Just came back home from a little "roadtrip" of sorts. Went to San Jose, Sacramento and San Francisco. Even got to go to Alcatraz. It's a must-see!

Outside the main prison is another story. Tons of old and decaying buildings standing along with seagulls and plant life. Very cool.
That building on the dock was once home to residential apartments for prison guards and their familes.
A dock watchtower.
Officer's Club in front of the power plant.
The power plant, which provided power to all the buildings on the island and the city of San Francisco as well.
Can't remember the function of this building at the moment. Might come to me soon.
Plants.
More plants.
The Morgue.
Seagull chick!
