Hey Scorpion01, yes Im thrilled that our Danish guys are doing well in NHL, not only Frans Nielsen with Islanders, but also Mikkel Bødker with Phoenix Coyotes, Peter Regin with Ottawa Senators, Lars Eller with St. Louis Blues and Jannik Hansen with Vancouver Canucks :o)
The downside of their success is that we miss them on the national team now as we are are playing the qualification games for the Olympics. Still, I have to sy “you go guys” !!
The upside is offcourse that Danish Tv finally show a little hockey when the Danes scores or does well :o)
And youre right Wolfman, we're in a terrible group at the World Cup, but that’s what happens when you are at the bottom of the ranking … As long as we can stay in the A-Group I think we should count ourselves lucky, especially if we have to do it without the NHL players ... We'll see if they will get some time off :o) A
nd please go for the full woodoo dose!! Ha ha |

UNFORTUNATELY IT BEAT THE ISLANDERS, BUT DID ANYONE SEE THE GOAL BY RICHARD ZEDNICK LAST NIGHT? VERY PRETTY.
PERFECT. ISLANDERS PLAYED TOUGH. THE KIDS LOOKED GREAT AGAIN. MORE GOOD EXPERIENCE. GOT TO SEE A BEAUTIFUL GOAL TO BEAT US. GIVE THE OTHER TEAM CREDIT. AND WE GOT NO POINTS OUT OF IT. ONE STEP CLOSER TO MAYBE GERTTING THE # 1 PICK.
OKPOSO LOOKS LIKE HE IS GOING TO END UP BEING A PLAYER SOMEWHERE NOT AS TALENTED AS BRIAN TROTTIER, BUT SIMILAR IN STYLE TO TROTTIER AND JOHN TONELLI.
LOVE WATCHING JOSH BAILEY SET UP OKPOSO AND ALONG WITH BLAKE COMEAU MAKE A GREAT LINE. |

EVERYONE KNOWS HOW MUCH I DISLIKE THE RANGERS, BUT THE ADAM GRAVES NUMBER RETIREMENT CEREMONY WAS DONE VERY WELL. FANS WERE HOLDING UP SIGNS THAT READ THANK YOU MESS FOR MAKING IT COOL TO CRY. REFURRUNG TO MARK MESSIER LOSING IT WHEN THEY RETIRED HIS NUMBER.
EVEN I AS AN ISLANDER FAN GOT WET EYED WHEN THEY LIFTER THE BANNER.
I DID GET A BIG GIGGLE WHEN IN THE MIDDLE OF GRAVES SPEACH 19,000 RANGER FANS YELLED OUT "POTVIN SUCKS"
POTVIN GETS A KICK OUT OF IT AND SAYS THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. THEY ARE JUST ACKNOWLEDGING THAT FOR ALL THOSE YEARS IN THE EARLY 1980'S THAT POTIVN WAS THE CAPTIN OF THE ISLANDERS THAT IT WAS "POTVINS CUPS" |

I THINK IT IS A SHAME, BUT IN ALL SPORTS THE STANDARDS HAVE COME DOWN. IT USED TO BE THE ELITE GOT THESE SPECIAL RECOGNATIONS. TO ME CARLTON FISK IS A RED SOX. TOO MANY PLAYERS CHANGE TEAMS NOW SO OFTEN THAT THERE ARE VERY FEW WHO SPEND 15 YEARS IN THE SAME ORGANIZATION ANY MORE. OH BELL THE BUSINESS SIDE OF SPORTS CHANGES THE SPORT IN MANY WAYS.
I GUESS WE HAVE TO ENJOY THE SPORT FOR THE SPORT ITSELF, THEN MANY YEARS AFTER LOOK BACK AND REFLECT ON A PARTICULAR PLAYERS PLACE IN HISTORY AGAINST THE PLAYERS WH PLAYED IN HIS ERA.
WE I'D LOVE TO CHAT MORE BUT THE AUDIT AND MONTH END CLOSE ARE CALLING.
LATER. |

I have heard the name fisk, but since I dont folow baseball, I dont know anything of him
gilmour, I dont think anyone should have retired his number. should he be in the hall of fame, perhaps, but he didnt do enough for any one team to earn that honour, to me the HOF and retired number are separate. the flames retired lanny MacDonald, I dont recall if he got the hall of fame, but he was the face of hockey here for 10 years. he was the man, even when gilmour was here.
the devils retired ken Danyko, he will never see the HOF, but played an entire carear as a tough stand up defenceman for them, and scott stevens who was there for most of the time, and might make the hall.
to me, you should only be retired (or your number) if that jersey is the only one people can picture you in. if the best player in the world did 20 years in 20 jerseys, personaly I wouldnt retire any of them. AS USUAL FREEZE I CAN'T DISAGREE WITH YOU.
IT DOES BOTHER ME A LOT THAT BASEBALL DOES LET A "FANS CHOICE" GAME DECIDE WHICH LEAGUE GETS HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE IN THE WORKS SERIES.
ALL BECAUSE OF A TIE ALL STAR GAME WHERE THEY DID NOT WANT TO OVER PITCH PITCHERS WHO HAD TO PITCH REAL GAMES FOR THEIR TEAMS IN A DAY OR SO. THE FANS GOT TO SEE 10 INNINGS. MORE THAN THEY EXPECTED. IT'S AN EXHIBITION. LET IT END IN A TIE. |

Whatever the sport, the problem with so-called "All-Star" games is that they are more of a popularity contest than anything else. To begin with, if they are going to have fans do the voting, don't call it "All Stars". Call it something like "Fans Choice". A guy having a good year ( especially a rookie) is not what I consider an All Star. To me, the All Stars are the best. Guys that have worked at their craft for years, put up the numbers and been consistent. THAT is the biggest thing for me, consistency. Almost any athlete can have a good year..maybe two. Its the guys that stay consistent year after year that are the true All Stars. Also, there are guys that stay TOO LONG and their skills are not what they were. Nothing worse than a guy that does not know when to "hang it up". These guys get voted in for nostalgic reasons and that is a shame.
Honestly, I have no problem with a Fan's Choice game. The whole point is that fans want to watch their favorite players. I suppose it does not matter what you call it, it is a matter of giving the people what they want. And if THAT is the case, then the league officials need to BUTT OUT! If they want to monitor these things and make them something more relevant being the best, STOP LETTING FANS VOTE! You can't have it both ways. |

I DON'T THINK THE ALL STAR GAME NEEDS TO GO AWAY. IT'S FOR THE FANS. IT GIVES THE OTHER PLAYERS A LITTLE BREAK.
THE PROBLEMS ALL STARTED WHEN YOU CAN VOTE ON THE COMPUTER. WHEN IT WAS DONE MANUALLY NOBODY WOULD SIT AND PUNCH HOLES IN 25 CARDS. WITH THE COMPUTER THEY EVEN TELL YOU.... YOU CAN ONLY VOTE 25 TIMES. WHY. ONE FAN ONE VOTING BALLOT.
FOOTBALL IS THE MOST REDICULOUS. THEY VOTE AFTER 7 GAMES. SOMEONE CAN HAVE A GREAT LAST 9 GAMES, HAVE A BETTER SEASON THAN SOMEONE WHO HAD A GOOD START TO THE SEASON AND NOT GET VOTED.?????????? BEATS ME.
JUST THE OPINION OF AN BASEBALL AND HOCKEY FAN-ATIC. |
