Hey I know you're into black metal and a lot of that underground stuff but are there any bands around these days who are newish and play the sort of music you like in a more traditional metal sense?

These guys are cool too and should be around for a long time. Only problem is their latest album, Crack The Skye is definately a little softer for want of a better word. Probably Mastodons equivalent to the Black album. Let's hope they don't go to shit like Metallica did. This song is off their Leviathan album from 04.

It doesn't sound like Godsmack or Disturbed at all. And I didn't  say they sounded British. It's just an example of how there's still good stuff out there and new bands coming through.

Here's another cool new band from the States. Baroness. They have two albums, this is off their first.

[jimmyjames] Tuesday, April 27, 2010 3:02:59 PM
I like it. That song is probably my favourite on the album. When I first heard it I thought the vocals were bit wrong but if you give it a few listens he sounds awesome. What I love about this album is that there are only 8 songs on it and it is under 50 minutes. That song, Snakes For The Divine is the longest at 8.24 so it's not one of those long drawn out 14 song 75 minute albums, it's easy to get into. Kind of like Metallica were doing with Ride and Master.

i agree some good stuff coming out of canada , got some real good local talent here in the valley ! thats why i can do a metal night every few months in a town of only 30 000 ppl!

Hey Jimmy that was excellent. Not that crazy about the vocalist but it gets the job done. Is the entire album this good?

That track sounded great until.........the vocals came in :-( a lot of bands with trad influences have some cool music but for me it goes down hill when the 'singing' starts.

There a are billion bands at the the mo who have the same vocal style and if thats what they want to do then 'great' go for it but sometimes i think  people sing like that just to try and be different or because they don't have
to  learn how to really sing (in the traditional sense of the word) as learning to sing is hard and can a long time to perfect.

But as i said if some bands get off on that that style then go for it but i don't really care for it and a lot of people find it too extreme to get into...

I do fear for the big metal fests of the future cus when the big guns have gone these events will attract smaller crowds cus as i said a lot of today's new metal groups(who will headline these future fests) are too 'heavy' for  the bulk of trad metalheads to really.... like.

I do think the golden age of Heavy Metal has been and gone.

There is definately some awesome stuff coming out of Europe and Canada at the moment. A lot of traditionalist stuff and also a lot of stuff that approaches metal from different angles. That's definately where the future of the genre is. In saying that though there's some good stuff in the US as well, it's just harder to find amongst all the commercial crap thats coming out there. Check out this from High On Fires latest album. Fucking Awesome!!!

Hummm....not sure what your "rant" is here aceroperuano,I never said there wern't "any" bands in our world that are supporting british heavy metal.Heres what I just posted a few posts down...
I said :

"When these godfathers of heavy metal retire I won't be buying anything new of heavy metal anymore, maybe a band or 2 but they will be far into the underground and obscurity for anyone to notice ect..."

Thats what I said, and I won't be buying all those bands you listed because 90% of them in my opinion have terrible vocals,so I'll weed out the lame vocalists and come up with a band or 2 that I can stomach to listen to

Aw, man, there are actually a shitload of bands rthat try and many times succed at sounding like classic oldschool heavy metal bands,if they don't get media exposure, too bad, but metal is not a fucking mainstream music listeners, is for fucking metalheads!!! you want classic heavy metal sound bands?? search it!! or made your own classic metal sound band for fucksake!!probably the amount of real metalheads who enjoy oldschool metal will decrease, but real metalheads will survive, plus, I give you guys a tip: try search bands from outside!!! like Europe and South America scenes!!! most metal bands from USA, no offense, are Pantera/Machine Head/Slikpnot/Hatebreed worshippers and metalcore trendy bands, when in Europe and South America are most influenced by are Judas Priest, Saxon, Warfare, old Slayer, Celtic Frost,Razor,Voivod, Anvil, Sarcofago, Pestilence, Vio-Lence, Violent Force, Bolthrower, old Mayhem and so kind of bands, also Canadian scene is a good choice,oh and some times there are actually good USA metal band hardcore influenced by oldschool heavy metal, anyway, this are some classic heavy metal/NWOBHM influenced bands: from Mexico: http://www.myspace.com/voltaxband from Canada: http://www.myspace.com/skullfisted from USA: http://www.myspace.com/highspiritsrock http://www.myspace.com/waitandprayinsane (this band sound like show no mercy Slayer) From Peru: http://www.myspace.com/cobraperu From Australia(very AC/DC sound): http://www.myspace.com/airbourne From Sweden: http://www.myspace.com/enforcerswe http://www.myspace.com/helvetetsport From Poland: http://www.myspace.com/crystalviperofficial There are more but I'm too lazy to put them now, maybe later. Maybe any of these bands are great as the classics but at least they are trying to preserve classic heavy metal, and that cvounts for something, I guess. And don't even make begin with oldschool thrash metal sound new bands, because that ones are in big ass amounts.

Cool is in the mind of the beholder. What one thinks is cool someone else doesn't.
It's all good. One thing no one can take from us is what we think,(unless they shoot
us in the head)(LOL). A big Peace to ya'!

I hear you Budred, but I'll be as you call it"stuck in the rut" listening to all my traditinal shit, fuck these "nu-bands" and thier "nu-sounds".  Its not cool to "move on" without "true heavy metal".  If there are no bands that take the torch from the masters then so be it,I'll listen to the shit that I've got already,I'm not going to "move on" and I'm not saying that your telling me to,I'm just saying that I'm a traditionalist when it comes to metal/hard rock and I can not and will not stomach bands that are not "cool" lol!!!!!

Heavy metal will die out like a smoldering fire and the fire is almost out already, and its because of there are not enough bands that want to carry on the traditional heavy metal aesthetics and most importantly the british style heavy metal sound, with "quality" song writting, there are simply just not enough bands that are willing to take it that far with heavy metal. When these godfathers of heavy metal retire I won't be buying anything new of heavy metal anymore, maybe a band or 2 but they will be far into the underground and obscurity for anyone to notice ect...

And as you wrote:   Will I miss Priest and the other bands you mentioned? Of course I will, but I won't let it keep me from enjoying music.

When they retire I will enjoy the metal I already have,I don't need to listen to "nu" corporate watered down commercial rock like the terrible Disturbed..."sorry spa and Victoria" HA!

It'll survive but it won't be as good. Just like wrestling carried on without Hogan and Andre.
[Budred] Sunday, April 25, 2010 3:53:46 PM

I'm not you so I'm surely not going to argue you're opinion. I've stressed that mine only matters to me.
I think those bands mentioned are quite heavy and I've already embraced the changes to metal. I don't
like everything out there but I didn't back in the day either. Everything changes, you can choose to roll
with it or you can stay stuck in a rut. The great thing is that we all have the right to decide. When I say
(you) I mean everyone not you particularly. And, quite honestly, I enjoy many styles of music now not
just metal so it's easier for me to move on. Will I miss Priest and the other bands you mentioned? Of
course I will, but I won't let it keep me from enjoying music. I'm glad you disagree sometimes, it makes
for good discussions. It also gives me the opportunity to re-examine what I post and think it through.
On this one I stand by my (opinion) as I'm sure you will yours. Take care man, I enjoy this. It's why I'm here.
Peace!

I like Disturbed J.D. I really do! lolI know you would like to put them on a cart to the center of the world, but I like them. That is one band we always agree to disagree on. lol

I couldn't "disagree" with you more here if I tried my hardest Bured. That is absolutely "untrue".  Nobody in the realm of heavy metal wants "originality" to the point of crossing over the line leaving the heavy metal ballpark. They want "heavy metal" not alternative commercialism. You don't have to like them but look at old Running Wild, old early 90's Iced Earth.....when they were released people got into them, not complaining that they "sound too British -like"...they embraced it because it reminded them of old Iron Maiden,Judas Priest,Saxon..ect.... if you take that image & sound away too far,its not "heavy metal" anymore.

Disturbed,Godsmack,System Of A Down are not "heavy metal" they are an alternative hard-rock-nu commercialism, not "metal" they are far from being "metal".  Trust me when Priest,Saxon,Black Sabbath,Dio,King Diamond,Exciter and even Maiden retire and there are no more bands to take thier place, you will be the first one bitching about how there are no bands taking the torch of british styled heavy metal. Watch.
