Speaking of the Red Wings, Chris Chelios brought the Stanley Cup to Wrigley Field with him on friday. He was there to throw out the "first" pitch (he had to throw a second, as the first one went way over the catcher's head).
He also sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch.
Also, you'll never guess who the "Honorary" catcher was (for the 1st pitch)...Eddie Vedder!!!!! |

Next round is on me, Soy. Since when did in become fashionable for "players" to hold "teams" and their "fans" hostage? I think football (NFL) players are the worst, with players "holding out", which is just another form of holding a team "hostage".
With the kind of $$$ being thrown at professional athletes, ideals like a)Honoring your signed contract b)Being "on-time" to the teams schedule c)Morals, are out the window.
It's a "ME FIRST" world we live in. And the more $$$ that's out there, the more it's about the individual!!!
Just my opinion. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Soylentgreen4u from Wednesday, August 20, 2008 6:17:34 PM) | | Soylentgreen4u wrote: | | HOW ABOUT ALL THE REST OF THE N.H.L. ACTUALLY MY FRIEND IF BETTMAN DIDN'T HAVE HIS HEAD UP THE GOOD 'OL BOYS ASSES SOUTH OF US,THERE IS NO DOUBT THE GAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLAYED IN MONTREAL...
IT'S THE TEAMS 100th ANNIVERSARY...BUT HEY,THAT WOULD MAKE SENSE AND ANY LEGIT HOCKEY FAN KNOWS BETTMAN DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THING 1 ABOUT TRADITION IN THIS FINE LEAGUE...CHICAGO,NOBODY IN THAT CITY REALLY GIVES A CRAP ABOUT THAT TEAM...
IT'S JUST ANOTHER FAILED ATTEMPT (AND MONEY GRAB) TO TRY TO GET AMERICAN FANS ON BOARD...AND IT AIN'T GONNA WORK...OTHER THAN A SELECT FEW MARKETS,AMERICANS DON'T GIVE A FLYING F#@K ABOUT HOCKEY,THAT'S A FACT NO MATTER HOW MUCH SPIN THE COUNT FROM SESAME STREET (BETTMAN) WANTS TO PUT ON IT...AT LEAST,IF NOT MORE THAN 40% OF THE FANS AT LAST YEARS OUTDOOR GAME WERE CANADIAN...(AT LEAST 40%)!!!
BOWLING GETS HIGHER RATINGS IN THE STATES THAN HOCKEY!...AND THAT'S JUST FINE WITH ME....THE GAME IS FROM HERE AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE EMBRACED HERE, UNLIKE MOST OF THE MARKETS SOUTH OF US THAT HAVE TEAMS.....BUT TRY TO EXPLAIN THAT TO THE COUNT AND HE JUST DOES HIS STUPID LITTLE SMIRK AND SHRUG,THEN PROCEEDS TO TWIST THE COLD HARD FACTS...TIME TO GO BETTMAN YOUR REIGN OF IDIOCY SHOULD BE ENDED.
AND AS FOR THE ISLANDER- RANGER RIVALRY, YEAH IT EXISTS,BUT MONTREL-TORONTO IS A THOUSAND TIMES MORE APPROPRIATE FOR SUCH A GAME.

The Islanders and Rangers may be one of the best 2 or 3 rivalries in all of sports. Could you imagine being a Rangers fan and not wnning a cup since 1940 and along come the islanders and win 4 in their first 11 years of existance? |

screw teh media, the problem is the number of people who think that just the coach is their problem. with their current lineup, no coach will get them a cup.
a coach who can win but hates the media would be fine by me, but you need more changes than just the coach. I dont see cliff making it happen. Man, they were just bloody awful. I even made a comment to my buddy at one point that it was a good thing we had a color commentator because, if not, I wouldn't have understood that it was a good thing to score more goals than the opponent.
